Weird , this "far from any road" is the most affective, mind claiming piece of music I have ever heard, it fits the story line of True Detective, I watch on CZcams I couldn't tell you how many times, I am mesmerized by the song itself, and how clever it was, the way I saw it fit the story, I was quite amazed that when I found out it was not written for the show, this band everything I hear now from them has that haunting storyline feeling of place and human activity, its simply brilliant. Thanks Handsome Family for the entertainment .
I came to love the rest of the album and their work but it actually took me a while to come around to because the rest of it didn't have that western desert sound they talked about.

Eduard Artemev did the soundtrack for Stalker film, but the most well known of those is the 'Meditation', Marilyn Manson did the main theme for Resident Evil film, looking at the rest of his work before and after, kind of meh, in comparison. the same is true for Mick Gordon and his Doom and Doom Eternal music, but he has scored a lot of things before Doom.
Never seen true detective but The Handsome Family is one of my favorite bands of all time, all of their songs have these strange unique feelings to them and the lyrics are always poetic. Love driving down forested backroads while listening to them
It must’ve been so cool for the specific fan that already knew about this song long before the show and heard about True Detective and tuned in that first time not knowing they were about to hear this song as the theme.
Well, I know I'm commenting on a seven year old video, but I just wanted to say that I've been binging the Handsome Family lately because I saw True Detective years ago and the song resonated with me. So yeah, they have a fan from the UK who's never been to America because of True Detective; I hope they find that cool too.

My wife and I recently binge watched the 1st season of True Detective and every time a new episode came on I tried to remember a few words so I could look it up. I tried T Bone Burnett and finally found it on CZcams. What a freaking fantastic song and series!

The lyrics are sublime poetry and the music and vocals make the whole work mystical and transporting. Unfortunately, i don't groove on their other work that i sampled and gave up.
Love the group and the song. However, I take issue with ascribing the horns to Calexico. I think that the sound of the horns actually harkens back to Forever Changes by Love / Arthur Lee, as channeled through Calexico.
