Really good demonstration on how to cut crown molding with a dual bevel sliding miter saw Vince. I remember having to do it by hand with a Stanley Miter box and saw back in the early 80's when I was remodeling my very first house I purchased. It was a nightmare to say the least and wish
i had all these tips and tricks back then as a DIY'er. Thanks for sharing.

@@VCGConstruction No, I didn't pre drill it then, just nailed it by hand. Learned the hard way and some of the molding split. Live and learn Vince.
The options you give in your tools and do such a great job at I will always be watching as long of the applications you use apply to my catching bluegills while I’m bluegill fishing and watching Vince the man. I have a 12” Hitachi but I was taught to lay the board flat when cutting crown. Have you ever tried to put a corner together when one side was cut nested and one cut flat? They don’t line up.
It is all about my bluegills and my bluegill fishing but when you come across someone like yourself that has the skills to apply options like you do I can take those as you have into the creek in my applications of bluegills while I’m bluegill fishing. You the man vince

Very cool video and informative. Believe it or not, I use an older USA made Craftsman 10" miter saw for my molding. That is my Craftsman saw's main job. I use a Swiss blade in that saw. Years ago I uses the Vermont America blades when they where made is Vermont from True Value Hardware. I do almost all of my jobsite work with the Makita miter saw, but that old Craftsman saw is a friend of might. Thank you sir.

I’m debating on whether I really need a double bevel or a single bevel on the saw.
Also, I’m considering the Kobalt 24v saw and they have it in a double and a single..

I’m the guy who makes those direction copies and then attaches them via clear packing tape somewhere handy for quick reference, lol. Not being that familiar with crown molding application, I liked the idea of the math illustrated and included on your recent skilsaw worm drive miter. I love learning something new every day and enjoyed the flat cut instructional you just gave. I wouldn’t mind a reference video on cutting it nested if and when you can find the time. Maybe throw in quick pros n cons of using crown stops? Thanks for another great vid. Stay safe.

Nested upside down and backwards. Just they way I was taught. But CA glue is your beat friend while doing crown or small trim pieces. I will have to try it flat with spring Angles. I have heard of people doing it that way never seen it done. As always great video

Making compound miters on crown is also helpful when cutting long pieces. Even with a 3 1/2" profile using a crown stop when you have 15' hanging off the other end is difficult and sometimes impossible unless you have another person to hold it.

Hi!
I have a smaller (7 1/4”) Kobalt, laser-guided compound single-bevel sliding mitre saw. Because the blade is rather small and the saw’s fence isn’t very tall I can’t spring my crown molding up against it for quick beveled cuts. I must flat cut everything and use the saw’s beveling capability to get my beveled cut angles correct.
Here’s my issue: I’m trying to find out the correct “bevel” setting for my blade for an outside 90 degree “bullnose” corner cut. Again, my saw will only flat-cut. I know I need to end up with three total pieces of crown molding (left side, pie-shaped transition piece and right side piece). I also know there will be four cuts at the 22.5 degree mitre setting. However, what should the bevel setting be for my blade? I’ve tried messing around with different settings (starting with 22.5 degrees) but my pieces never line up correctly when I go to put them up and place them around the outside 90 degree bull-nosed corner.
Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

@@VCGConstruction Yes...The spring angle on the crown molding is 52/38 and the outside 90 degree bullnose corners I'm dealing with are 3/4". I just can't seem to get the bevel setting correct on my saw.

I just thought of something. Instead of changing the angles of the saw, couldn't you just rotate the molding 180 degrees like the hand of a clock, and cut the opposite side?
Less messing with the saw and you are guaranteed the opposite angle, I would think. I have no experience in this though, so I may be missing something.
You are correct, if this was a single bevel you’d have no choice!

Actually, if you're cutting fjp or MDF crown, you only need a single bevel saw as you can simply turn it face down to cut. It's faster that way because it eliminate the need to risky readjust the saw so much.

Good tutorial, I got on here to find out how to cut miters flat for a 45°wall angle. Unfortunately your video didn't go into that.
I got Joe Fusco's crown molding chart and it said for a 45°walk angle, you set the mitre at 56.06° and the bevel at 46.72°. What the hell? Any insight?

Didnt even know what that was had to look it up. That thing looks like a turd. Only way to cut crown is flat. Propping it up against stops or in a jig is how framers do crown molding. There is enough to deal with like out of plumb walls, heavy drywall buildup, truss lift and out of square inside corners you should at least do your part and have a perfect angle on what you are cutting. I hate seeing some finishers that cut trim standing up it looks awful with the length of trim flapping back and forth because your holding it in the air trying to make a cut, not to mention if you are cutting baseboard on edge any play in your mitre saws hinge will make your joint look like garbage

Hi, how do you cut an outside corner with a large crown molding piece bullnose? Meaning if I want to cut 4 pieces for the outside piece, which means it would need to be 4 22.5 degrees cuts
Good video vince I use unika 2 part glue pen activator instead of the spray it’s cleaner and less waste be careful using that stuff you can stick the fingers together easily 🙈😂👍🏻

@@VCGConstruction more in-depth on the angles, I guess that chart, possible way to save time from having to swing the saw Bank and forth for each cut. Have a ten inch saw, rate occasions I need to cut larger than my capacity.

10 years ago I bought an expensive mitre saw and did my whole house in 7 1/2 " baseboard. Fast ward sold the saw, now I need to finish another room with left over baseboard and I'm confused about buying a new mitre saw. What am I looking for to be able to cut the width I need? Even the sliding 12" blade says it will only cut 6" baseboard? I kind have to reorient myself with how to cut again. Totally forgot, but I'm sure once I get started I'll figure it out again.
