- For our next Vermont adventure we spent a day exploring Burlington, which is the largest city in the state and is located right on Lake Champlain. We visited the charming Church Street Marketplace, grabbed coffee that supports an amazing cause, biked across part of the lake, and enjoyed some tasty BBQ. It was a great day in this beautiful city!

I've driven 4.5 million miles across this big beautiful country for the last 40 years.. The fall color is spectacular and never fails to amaze me! It's a yearly thing for me to crisscross the new England states , upstate new York, then down thru the eye 81 corridor. Always a memory worth the traffic. This country is so diverse!! Get out and explore all you can and make those memories!!

For those wondering what is on the other side of the bike ferry in the Champlain Islands - it's flat, picturesque farmland with little traffic and more amazing views of the lake. There are a couple of apple orchards to visit with all the typical fall goodies. Plus Snow Farm Vineyards is a great stop in the Islands - they do live music on Thursday nights during the summer with about 500-1,000 people dancing in the field! The rest of Vermont is very hilly, so this is one of the more bikeable areas in the State and the people are as friendly as can be. Also, it's a fun place to spot art projects - there are about a dozen or so miniature stone castles built (one is at the house next to Snowfarm) and there is a forest filled with hundreds of colorful birdhouses and even some dinosaur statues (also near Snowfarm). The islands are worth a casual day trip!

Live in Plattsburgh, NY (across from Burlington) for almost 2 years in the 80's. Loved my visits across the lake on the ferry. Vermont is a great late Spring through early Fall area for sightseeing. There is always Killington, VT for skiing as well.
The ferry from NY to VT would've been so fun! It was closed during our visit, but how cool that they offer that. Would love to live that close to the Adirondacks and VT!
As I knew I would…I loved Burlington…such a cuuuute and colorful town! Loved your bike ride…what a beautiful lake…such an amazing trail going across it! I grew up going to Boulder & have also been to Burlington - good call on the the clock tower mkt. space similarities! When we were there we wanted to do something around the lake, but the ferry’s weren’t running yet!! What a cool idea to rent those e-bikes - wish we had done that!! Another awesome video!! The bikes look so fun! Brussels sprouts are one of the most underrated veggies, in my opinion. So many people won't even try them because they have this bad memory from childhood. I'm roasting some tonight for dinner with a squash! I feel like you can't go wrong with burnt ends, it all looked great.
They are so dang good! Especially roasted! My body unfortunately hates them, which makes me so sad, but it was worth it this time haha

Always so happy to see you tubers who visit our area and get outside of Burlington to enjoy places like the causeway! Also so happy you guys were able to check out the Perky Planet as they had a really rough time during the pandemic as it coincided with some major road work that blocked the street up a lot and hid this little gem away.
We are so happy we could visit Perky Planet! We love their mission and it makes us sad to know that they had a construction hurdle on top of the difficulties the pandemic has brought to businesses. We hope they can come back stronger than ever! 💪🏼

Best Western has become your best friend in your travels. We were at Great Basin NP yesterday. We couldn't ascend the mountain past the Ditch trail if you recall where that is (snow). We went through the cave on a tour. Looks like you had a great time in Burlington, right up until the brussel sprouts.
They have really helped us out! We have yet to explore Great Basin, but it looks awesome!!! And we’ll just eat extra Brussels sprouts for all of the haters out there 😜

We hit up Vermont for vacation this past summer and spent one day in Burlington. We really enjoyed the city as well and wished we had more time in the area. Ate brunch at the Friendly Toast, visited Church Street Marketplace, saw the World’s Tallest Filing Cabinet, and took a cruise on Lake Champlain in a small sailboat. They even let our boys steer the boat.
Oh wow...sailing on the lake sounds awesome! We'll have to do that next time! We thoroughly enjoyed Vermont!

@@AdventuresofAplusK They had the road over the lake closed off for repair, we kind of had to go around the barrier... No ferry running. I did the exact same thing you did, stopped at the dock and turned around. That is one of the main reasons why I want to go back. I want to do the ferry. I will rent a bike for a full day. I did it both on an electrical and a regular bike. When I went by myself, I did regular, when I went with my friend we did electric. That was fun though.

I live right across the lake In Plattsburgh and I absolutely love taking the ferry over to Vermont when I have to. One day I’d really love to go and explore, shop, etc because I never really had the chance to stay in Burlington for long, only to get to the airport.
We loved Burlington! We would love to spend more time there next time we visit Vermont
Try butternut squash cut up into cubes with brussel sprouts, evoo, bacon roasted on a cookie sheet for about 40 minutes or so with salt of course. Absolutely perfection!

My daughter lives in Canada an hour north Burlington. My son in law can’t come into America because of his vax status. We where going to go for a vaca here to see them. Loved seeing the video. Lots of fun. Hopefully the border will open up for him soon.

Hello Adventurers😊😊😊😊, WOW you got to do the bike ride along Lake Champlain! I have been to Burlington several times and it's always fun to bike or hike. The lake is ABSOLUTELY Stunning isn't it? I love this area. The BBQ looks so delicious and those thick Ribs and brisket...THAT is definitely a Jawful of absolute DELICIOUSNESS! I would be in bbq heaven😊😊😊🍗🍗🍗🍗🍗🍗! Now I see that you are heading south on I-89 to the beautiful town of Waterbury which is home to not only that really nice BW hotel but it's also home to the Ben & Jerry's ICE CREAM where you get the history of this wonderful place and take a tour of the factory and taste samples...I have done it and you will definitely enjoy it. Stowe is right up the road too. Can't wait to see the next video👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍!
It’s so beautiful there! We loved the lake and the scenery around town! And I’m sure we will disappoint many, but we skipped Ben and Jerry’s actually haha. No tours happening currently and the wait for ice cream is apparently an hour, so we wanted to focus on places we couldn’t get at any grocery store 😜
I'm from Burlington, and that is the emptiest I have ever seen Church Street! Haha You should go in the evening when there are street musicians and the outdoor restaurants are filled up. It's a lot more vibrant! Lots of college students, French Canadian tourists, and a bustling yet relaxed atmosphere.
We intentionally went at sunrise haha it’s easier (and less awkward) for filming and photography with no one around 😅 but the city was a lot more hoppin’ a few hours later!
@@AdventuresofAplusK Makes sense. I'm just recommending to anyone watching that evenings are the best time to visit- plus you get the sunset over the lake and mountains down by the boardwalk!
I worked on Church Street, and even in the mornings it would be bustling. Magrams Market drew a crowd in the morning, but Magrams left, Woolworths left, and more recently Borders and Macy's. It's declined a lot and the death of the mall and the stalled City Place are destroying what's left. Once LL Bean moves out, I wonder what will happen with what's left.

Looks like Autumn hasn't exactly peaked up there yet either. I live in Southwest Pennsylvania and half of our leaves are brown and falling off the only colors I'm seeing are yellow and every here and there a red but very rare. Last fall and the one before were absolutely gorgeous here. I'm bummed. I feel ripped off. Great video guys ‼️ okay just read your pinned comment now I understand why hardly any fall colors. One year we did a tour of Vermont New Hampshire and New York while the colors were peaked and it was the most breathtaking vacation. Lol L
We hear this year has been a delayed fall. Where we are headed soon we expected it would be dead trees, but it still looks pretty green there, which is shocking!

Oh man, we were in Burlington back in June. Did the whole bike trail thing too... except on regular bikes, and I had a trailer attached to mine to hold the dog and my 8 year old son - who would have been more than capable of riding his own bike, but we thought we'd save some money - so that added about 90 pounds (dog + child) - not easy to pull - plus it started pouring down rain when we were on the causeway. I had a terrible attitude and told my wife it was one of the worst things we'd ever done. She cried. Total fail on my part, lol!
Oh no! Hahaha that sounds VERY hard to pull that! Although your son and dog probably enjoyed the ride. Hopefully you can try again on a nice day!
Thank you for sharing this beautiful video, if I wanted to visit there, could I just base myself at one motel and do day trips around New England? or would that be to big of a stretch?
You could definitely explore Vermont from here. Stowe, Montpelier, and the green mountains aren’t far, and the Adirondacks could be a long day trip (if the ferry is running it would be easier to get to, it wasn’t running for us). But the white mountains in NH (if you want to go there, highly recommend it!), would be about 2 hours each way, so that may be tough. But there is a ton to see in Vermont alone!

We actually prefer things empty haha and intentionally went at sunrise. It just makes filming and photography a LOT easier and less awkward for us. But we did go by later in the day and saw the area more lively! The causeway was amazing!

It's official, our food tastes outside of sweet things are polar opposites. Kathryn, how can you love Brussel Sprouts 🤢 and you picked them up when there was Poutine on the menu?!!? But it was lovely getting to see a snap shot of Burlington again. I wish so much that I'd had the time/flexibility to cycle the lake shore, it looked stunning in your video - did it good justice there! Really liked Perky Planet Coffee. My other half is incredibly hard of hearing and he recognises that with his job, he's lucky that it's not too much of a burden, but having an employer like Perky Planet Coffee who will think through the design of spaces to make a workplace work for an employee is just the best. I spotted Starbucks in your B-roll shots - it's got nothing on it! So pleased to see you guys are being recognised by Best Western again with the hotel - it looks GORGEOUS!!! Can't wait for the colours to change a little more. They're starting to turn over here at the moment, but not quite peak yet!

What a gorgeous state! We were stationed in Plattsburgh, just across the lake. Always had to take a ferry across to Vermont but that was 40 years ago, maybe things have changed. Are you going to go to Ben and Jerry's while in Waterbury? What a silly question, right?!
The ferry appeared to be closed during our visit 😭 But we love ferries! Hoping to take Brisket on his first ferry next year! And we actually didn't go to Ben & Jerry's haha, already prepared for so many people to be confused and mad at us 😂 But we wanted to focus on items we couldn't get elsewhere and we hear they have a 1 hour line for ice cream.
There is a ferry between Rouse's Point, NY, and Grand Isle. It's been here as long as I can remember (45+ years) and is open year-round.

Oh cool! And we didn’t drive the notch due to our large van size and hearing it wasn’t good for larger vehicles, but we got to see lots of beautiful scenery just driving around town!

Heading to Burlington in the next few weeks. Wondering how long the bike rode took…
The bike ride took 3-4 hours if I remember correctly. But we’re not the best to gauge off of. We stop often to film and take lots of photos so it will take us longer. It’s a beautiful ride! The pearl street mall in Boulder was designed by the same person as church street. I visited Boulder and had to look up who designed it because they looked THE SAME

Fun Fact for A+K: The Church Street Marketplace in Burlington was designed by the same firm that's responsible for the pedestrian malls in Santa Cruz and the Pearl Street Mall in Boulder. (I grew up in Burlington)

We have been in drought conditions for two years that causeway usually has more water on the swamp side
