Master Marie Kondo's signature KonMari fold! Learn how to fold your basic clothing items, including tank tops, t-shirts, long-sleeved t-shirts, thin sweaters, pants and shorts.
I am listening to her book right now, and couldn't picture the folding method, so I found this. I had that same "meditative" reaction to watching it. And I actually am a meditator!
It seems to be some sort of magic or immense cognitive struggle to many people to perform to the basic, logical task of folding things in an organized and intelligent way. I cannot understand what is so special about the way these clothes are folded. Anyone who has an IQ of at least 90, washes, and segregates own clothes have likely figured it out by themselves. A 10-year child old discovers such a logical way of folding when sorting out their own wardrobe. Unless someone is clinically lazy and/or disorganized. Also, that little gap left in folding is completely arbitrary. It is pathetic that so many people need to learn how to perform such a basic task... What's next? Lessons in how to intelligently attach the toilet roll on the wall or brush the teeth? *actually I would not be surprised that many people reverse the toilet roll incorrectly by putting it facing the wall or wash their teeth in a slapdash, lazy way
I wonder how many people are finally getting around to decluttering now that everyone’s forced to stay home 🤔 I don’t fold my clothes EXACTLY like this but I’ve been doing something similar for the last year and it’s been so helpful.

Or my uncle’s stamp collection that meant the world to him. I feel awful to get rid of something like that. But I just don’t have the space and don’t really want the items anyway, I just don’t want to feel like a bad or ungrateful person. It’s so hard! I’m going to start by getting rid of ONE thing, and take pictures of it just in case I ever want to look back on it. I think it’ll be easier to keep going after that, once I see that the world didn’t come to an end lol
@@ShadowSailor It keeps the bulk of the neckline, shoulder, and sleeve seams from making the folded garment 'fat" at one end of the fold, so they go in the drawer more evenly.
Growing up I detested cleaning but through the years reorganizing my closet after a hectic period started to feel like a mental cleansing ritual. I'm going through my wardrobe right now before the spring season + semester hits and I started folding my clothes with this method. I gained so. Much. Space. Not to mention how much more orderly it all looks. Thank you!
If you have kids, change it up with any outfit set! My little one has a ton of 2 piece pajamas, which made it hard for her to pair them when I had all the tops and bottoms seperate, in seperate drawers. So I put these "PJ Burritos" together! You fold the shirt totally, then take the pants, fold them in half short ways, and put the shirt on the end of the pants (the foot end) now roll the whole thing up... And.. Voila! A PJ burrito! My kid loves pretending to eat them when she pulls a pair our for the night. Great Kondo Mod!
At first I was skeptical of this method, as I was so used to stacking, but this is a GAME-CHANGER right here! Thanks Marie, for coming into my life and really making a difference!
me too! i used to stack clothes horizontally and never found anything i wanted to without messing up the entire wardrobe, but thanks to her, i can both find clothes easily AND i have a ton of space in my wardrobe
We have to imagine the pretty little sparkles that eminate from our folded little bundles! I worked at the gap a hundred years ago, so at least my jeans are folded right! Love her!
I'm finding this very soothing to watch . Who would have thought that watching clothes being folded would be soothing and makes you want to go fold up your laundry straight away. I do fold some stuff this way just not all. So will be folding like this for everything though from now on.
I’ve been doing the folding since I was in elementary, that’s how my grandma taught me and the way you organized the drawers, ugh Grandmas knows best...and she checked it every week if you maintain your drawer neatly 😂
Bless you Marie 😊 I’m working on a video of decluttering my drawers using this method. There is something so aesthetically pleasing about opening a drawer and not seeing a jumbled mess! I think her voice is so calming too!
I love the part where they stand on their own. 😍 I never thought I could do it... That too so easily. In the first attempt itself I could get it. There's such joy and satisfaction when I could also make my clothes stand on their own. Love it!! ❤️
Thank you so much Marie for this folding technique. Folding my clothes this way has helped me appreciate my clothes and care for them deeply. It’s as you say, “Folding is an act of caring” 🙏🏼
Thank you for this folding Method, Marie! With this, I was able to gain a lot of space in my luggage for my first trip to Dublin (and last before the lockdown) back in October 2019. It also helped me to create some supplementary space in my closets.
Ahhh, thank you!! 🙏 I’ve been meaning to organize my closet forever now and I know I have a tendency to overlook my clothes if I can’t see them. Folding them like this and having them “stand” in the closet is going to help so much! 😭👏
So you overlook the ones in the back instead of on the bottom. Does it make that much difference? (Actually, I'm beginning to understand the point of this. I thought it was just a meaningless aesthetic exercise.)
Thank you for sharing the tidy method, I'm in the process of tiding and feels so relaxing decluterring so many things and keeping what brings joy! God bless you! :)

I was looking for an effective way to fold my clothes and discovered this video. I just love it! Straight to the point. I can watch a hundred times. Now my drawers have gone through a transformation! Thanks a bunch for this video!
This was so helpful! Thank you so much! My clothes are so neat now! And thank you for showing how to fold different pieces of clothes instead of just one T-shirt!
Thank you Kon Marie for making this video for your folding technique. I've seen several videos from other youtubers and they all leave out that little gap when it comes to the "half fold". Glad I can reference the proper Kon Marie fold staight from the originator!👍🌸
It looks simple, but when I try this to my clothes, WOW! The wardrobe even has more free space! Also, you have inspired my lazy-ass soul to be neater in cleaning up the house, although it seems very time-consuming at first. Thank you!
I started cleaning ang organizing my closet yesterday and I did it in KonMari way ( the fold and the vertical arrangement). It didn't felt like a chore at all, I felt like I meditated the entire time and it feels like my room is more breathable. Thank you Marie Kondo ❤️ You changed my life ❤️
I actually fold, then roll my clothes if I am packing a suitcase. Amazing how much less room it takes up. I also discovered packing cubes which are the best invention ever
wow, i've been folding my clothes like this my whole life but i never knew it was called the "konmari fold"! this is incredibly eye opening! thank you for showing me something so useful and enlightening!
I finished reading your book and I didn’t believe the testimony that said folding clothes is now fun.... honestly it is fun now 😂 and sooo satisfying to have neat little rectangles
ありがとうございました Kondo san. You and this method are changing my life for the better. I started the process a year ago and due to 50+ years of stuff collected and inherited I was drowning in stuff!. I’m ADD and very creative but clutter kills my creativity. Thanks to your method I have a better focus on simple, beautiful, peaceful, organized living so that my natural creativity can flourish and thrive! I already had the character trait that I didn’t want things in my life or my garden that didn’t have multiple purposes or uses. I don’t want lots of beautiful things just to look at them on a shelf. You just have more work to keep them dusted. I just needed a way to organize my thinking about my belongings and what is important to me! Again, ありがとうございました Arigatou gozaimashita for your wonderful lessons.
I have folded a lot of uniforms in my life so far.....once you have folded the sides, roll the garment....that way it takes lest room and never wrinkles.
I can’t tell you how much these methods are a livesaver :) I just did 3 tshirts and it fees like the best day ever, I can’t wait to live an organized life!
I love this way of folding! I'm doing a reset of my wardrobe, clearing out stuff for donation or tossing and keeping only what I like. The only issue I'm finding with this is I have to go slightly off-script because I'm a bigger woman so my clothing isn't slim like all the ones she shows. Pants and shorts have excess crotch material. But, I'm finding my own way of getting it done. Now I have the satisfaction of looking into my drawers and seeing nice, neat packages that I can pluck out.
Someone may already have mentioned this... I don't like the fold marks on a turtle neck or t-shirt, after they've been packed in a drawer for a while. So -- when I take a shirt out of the drawer -- I grab the spray bottle that I use for hair, iron, etc., and spritz the fold marks lightly, front and back. And voilà! By the time I'm ready to put on the shirt, it's dry and the fold marks are gone.
Omg, this is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen! Just wish I could clone myself so each one would have a task & it would get done much quicker! Thank you so much! I would think it'll help w/the wrinkle factor too!
As kids we did our own laundrey..nothing got folded or made it into the drawers. If you needed anything, it was in the hamper. By contrast, my wife turns domestic chores into an artform, because she cares! 😁
I've been folding similiar too this ever since I figured out too my own laundry around 8 ( my family is super messy and no one taught me) my mindset was why wouldn't I make my clothes as tiny as possible for more room in my dresser for toys 😂😅
Thank you very much, Marie. I've just watched your NetFlix TidyingUp series. They're mind-blowing. You're an amazing genius, bringing lights to millions of household for decluttering their house for a happier home.
🥰 Would love one one folding towels of different sizes so they end up being a similar size in width and height, I understand the depth/thickness will vary.
I followed how you fold pants and tops.exactly. love my little packages.everything fit in my 21" intl size luggage.8 short sleeved tops ,5 pants, 3 wool blazers.cruise 10 days,10 days hotel.Az to Spain. Leave in 5 days. Retired airline, fly 8x year, intl travel. Love it.
As crazy as this sounds - this way of folding really works! I have plenty of room in my drawers and shelves, I can see what I have, and I save time with getting dressed.
Thank you so much! This video was so helpful, I've been reorganizing lately. Thank you for making these videos instead of just selling your books! Only objection I have is that some of the folding methods shown don't work with thicker clothes, but otherwise, great!
One point to note….Clothes do have wrinkles in some spots when you are ready to wear them…Some more than others, and for leggins and such it doesn’t much matter, but tops/pants sometimes it does. If you have the space to hang clothes, why not, they’ll have less wrinkles and material gets to breath. I’ve been rectangular folding my clothes for years and when traveling folded and rolled, so all clothes fit in carry-on luggage, but I never thought to store clothes the same way in a drawer at home, because, I did have to iron some things once I got to my travel destination. Love her idea to be thankful for clothes/linens as you fold…I always grumble through this task…But wouldn’t hurt me to be mindful of the blessing …Like…Spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down.
Have you ever tried searching at amazon? I found a measuring tool that saved my life, just type "measuring tape" at the search bar and order whatever you desire.
I don’t fold this way as it takes more time and I still have space left in my wardrobe, but I watch her folding videos all the time becuz it’s so satisfying and calm. Definitely my Asrm.
I am following Marie's methodology in feeling spark joy while deciding my stuff stay or leave. However, I have a concern on this folding method that creates press lines. I am afraid I need to ironing my outfits again before dress.
It won't create press lines since the folding method and storage allows breathing room. However, some material will inevitably crease. These clothes are best hung up! Marie Kondo explains this in her book :)
Folding properly holds the cloth taut and erases wrinkles, making the material stronger and more vibrant! You don’t need to make a sharp crease by running your fingernail along the edge as you would in origami. If you apply a firm pressure, the garment will keep its shape long term.
Marie! I could fit all your clothes in my lunchbox and still have room for chips because you are so tiny. You really did help me get rid of all the clothes I fooled myself into thinking would come back into style someday.
When I first started folding her way I felt satisfaction at making "packages" out of each piece of clothing. They look neat and pretty.
Samee! I even organized my brothers wardrobe coz i wanted to see them all color coordinated and just piled in a very satisfying way
This is amazing!! My daughter made a tool to do this but now she doesnt even need it!
I started folding my clothes this way about 3 weeks ago and i have the same feeling of satisfaction at all the neat little packages in my drawer.
Anonymous Medusa i send pictures of my drawers to people, if only the rest of my life and flat were so organised!

Thanks Ellen…This method, while it maybe a space saver, isn’t a wrinkle saver…Good tip.
Omg, this is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen! Just wish I could clone myself so each one would have a task & it would get done much quicker! Thank you so much! I would think it'll help w/the wrinkle factor too!
why do i feel like crying
it’s so satisfying and calming
i already enjoyed folding my clothes and now i’m going to enjoy it even more
I'm planning to spend the rest of my day refolding my clothes. It's so satisfying!
Thank you , Marie Condo . I watched your vlog without skipping . Love from Malaysia 🇲🇾
I have been folding like this for years! Love it.
Love it.
The vertical stacking method works with this fold only. Wow and it saves so much of space ❤️
Can I just say how I absolutely LOVE this woman..shes my everyday life hacking, organizing savior❤❤❤❤❤❤
As crazy as this sounds - this way of folding really works! I have plenty of room in my drawers and shelves, I can see what I have, and I save time with getting dressed.
i love folding my clothes like this, my drawers definitely spark joy when i open them up now!!!!!
Exactly what I need in my life right now!
Thanks for the folding tips 😍
Thank you so much! This video was so helpful, I've been reorganizing lately. Thank you for making these videos instead of just selling your books! Only objection I have is that some of the folding methods shown don't work with thicker clothes, but otherwise, great!
How is it that just watching this for the first time makes me feel happy
I was struggling, when I was packing my suitcase, then I found this video and it really helped me, appreciate you very much! :)
Can someone leave a link where I can buy a little gap for the end?
😂 ... best comment
Have you ever tried searching at amazon? I found a measuring tool that saved my life, just type "measuring tape" at the search bar and order whatever you desire.
I'm going to try playing this music the next time I fold laundry... might make one of my least favourite tasks more tolerable. Thanks for uploading.
I almost fell asleep... wow Marie you are a gift to us all. Thank you
Just started doing this, it's already a game changer. Thank you!!
If Marie edits all her videos, she must have another talent: video editing!

watching this video sparked joy for me! :)
Even if you don't stand things up, this makes your drawers and shelves look ssoooo much neater.
Who is also refolding their entire closet at 3am. Just me? Okay😂
@hartley4686 thanks for the laugh
I don’t fold this way as it takes more time and I still have space left in my wardrobe, but I watch her folding videos all the time becuz it’s so satisfying and calm. Definitely my Asrm.

sometimes with thick sweaters, the last step is better folding it in half rather than in thirds! got it! thanks!
thanks so much making this video ! doing to use this to make my drawers more organized. wish i found out about this technique sooner .
Angelica Thanks! 😁
Folding properly holds the cloth taut and erases wrinkles, making the material stronger and more vibrant! You don’t need to make a sharp crease by running your fingernail along the edge as you would in origami. If you apply a firm pressure, the garment will keep its shape long term.

gonna rearrange my closet tmr~~~
OH GOSH THANK YOU ! I just love now rearranging my clothes it saves so much space !
Not the video I was looking for, but the video I needed. Thanks Marie!
Marie! I could fit all your clothes in my lunchbox and still have room for chips because you are so tiny. You really did help me get rid of all the clothes I fooled myself into thinking would come back into style someday.
She’s backkkjj
Folding Tee shirts very helpful, loved.

I managed to fit about maybe 20 jeans in a small drawer. (UPDATE: I bought more jeans :) and Now I need a bigger dresser. 😬)
