- One of the first pieces I wrote for Harp Guitar. It was inspired by a book of the same name by my friend Patrick Rothfuss-if you're into Tolkien and loved the Lord of the Rings you're bound to love Rothfuss' work.
The guitar is tuned DADF#BE, a modified lute tuning, and the subs are tuned E, F#, G, A, B - Hudba
Auri might say that you have a guitar that thinks it's a harp and a book that thinks it's a song ;D
Great piece by the way and excellent tone/playing!
That's my favorite comment yet. Thanks. I LOVE Auri-one of my absolute favorite characters.
and Elodin would just start randomly flashing ppl.
What do you mean by blue? Describe it.
I'm so glad you dig my tunes. I find Pat's work so inspiring; it's hard not to want to pick up my guitar after I read about Kvothe-Pat just nails how musicians feel about playing and about their instruments. Thanks for listening.
Pipes for you
thank you my friend. That's a high compliment and much appreciated.
The way Patrick describes the music within the story, I didn't think it'd be possible to bring justice to it. But you've done it, and more. Amazing job! :)
Sora Ngin that is high praise indeed. Thank you very much.
I don't know but this just...cross my heart and sometimes it even hurts, this is so...full of emotion, for real, I.. I have NO words to describe what I feel everytime I heard this, it's totally amazing...
You're amazing. Have a WONDERFUL day all of you
Hi Melany-I have been playing music for people for over 40 years, and that is one of the finest compliments I've been paid; my job is to help people feel deeply, and I'm humbled that this music did that for you. Your comment has helped me have a wonderful day. Cheers, Ken
Ken Bonfield thank you so much for give me this pleassure, I have no words and this is not enough for what I feel, here a REALLY big fan of you and your fantastic work from Chile
uwu
I... I simply loved that!
this is incredible, i cant stop thinking of different parts throughout Kvothes story when listening to it. amazing job
Corry Sullivan thank you for the kind words.
Seriously, Ken: this is amazing. I can't help the shivers running down my spine, and how full and happily-satisfied this- and your other pieces- make me feel. Truly beautiful pieces and playing.
This makes my heart happy. It is the purpose of music, especially my music, and I am beyond grateful that it's purpose is realized when you listen. Cheers and blessings to you
I have to say I cry a lot hearing this because, wow, it's so full of passion, so full of meaning. Your song takes me to another places, take me into Kvothe's skin, I feel his pain, I feel all of it. I certainly love this. You're such an amazing bard. Thank you for this.
+Beatrys Farias And I have to thank you. Nothing pleases a composer/player more than knowing they've moved someone deeply. Thank you, kb
I must admit some tears did fall. I think i found a new favourite instrument
I know this is five years prior to its release, but my friend, this is beautiful.
Hauntingly beautiful.
A beauty that defies comprehension.
There are no official songs tied to this book series, and yet, this single song creates the feeling we deserve to feel when reading this series.
Good job, man.
Seriously.
wow. that is extraordinarily humbling praise. Thank you.
Ken Bonfield You are absolutely welcome. Already went and bought the song on iTunes. Many more songs to be bought as well.
thanks Dylan, that means the world to me. Enjoy. Cheers, kb
I cried listening to this just like Denna cried listening to Kvothe songs when they first met, this video is such a piece of art, it's these things that keep people souls warm during hard times in live, thank you Ken Bonfield.
You are so welcome. As Mr.Rothfuss tells is "music is there for us when words fail". Cheers, kb
May I say, sir, you really capted the essence of it. I'm in love with your music!
thanks, glad you dig it. that makes me very happy.
I searched "Tolkien" & "Lute" and this came up. Nice composition.
Take my pipes. It would be a pleasure to hear you playing The Lay Of Sir Savien Traliard by Illien.
And I would love to play it. Me thinks I must write my own version. Thanks for the kind words
Absolutely wonderful!
Thank you very much.
This is truly outstanding. I love the sound.
This makes me think of Kvothe calmly cleaning tables in his inn as he reminisces. Like the patient, cut-flower sound of a man waiting to die.
Well I love the first two LOLOL, and read them both many times in the waiting... thanks for the beautiful music!
i loved it! it's incredible how music can express anything you want, just like kvothe did with his songs... great job :)
Beautiful and sad, like a voice crying out in the dark. Solid as a brick of iron but gentle as a leaf floating through the air on an autumn day. Of all the instrumentals that I've heard on the internet by fans of the Kingkiller Books, I think this piece most perfectly captures the tone of the story of Kvothe. Simple, but sticks with you long after you experience it.
What I'm saying is, I love this music! Great job!
Sam Harnish thanks man. That’s high praise. The books are so inspiring I just hoped I could capture Patrick’s vision with music.
I was hoping this would be about kingkiller chronicles excellent music my friend
this is absolutely gorgeous
This dude made us a spoiler about how did kvothe make bards cry. JUST BEAUTIFUL
Quit it.. You're gonna make me cry. This is amazing
You are too kind. Humbled.
Excellent.thank you for sharing this beautiful song with us
Heard this when it first came out... loved it and I have had it in my heart for 7 years.
No composer could ask for a finer compliment. Thank you. Peace, kb
Ken Bonfield thank you for such timeless piece!
You are so welcome.
Wow! So beautiful! Please make more tracks inspired by the Kingkiller Chronicles - Absolutely brilliant! BRAVO!
Since Rothfuss linked this I've been listening to it non-stop. This is just delightful!
I still come back to this sometimes
Thanks. I appreciate the heck out of that. Cheers
This is so beautiful ❤ Your music is special, so wonderful... It really is full of feelings and stories... I know it sounds cheesy, but I'm saying this the way I see it c:
One worthy of the troop.
Thanks for this.
This is absolutely gorgeous.
What a very nice song! Thank you a lot!
so beatiful and deep man, congratulations, you catch the essence of the book
What a beautiful song friend, an thanks for the lute tuning
Still here 11 years later. Life really is short, isn't it?
That was absolutely brilliant... I'm stunned
Thank you. I'm humbled. I renamed this piece The Name of the Wind and it's on my album Legacy where you can hear it in much higher audio resolution recorded with 5 microphones by a grammy-winning engineer. open.spotify.com/track/48qe2Cz9FJlmG0mWbOTQJ8?si=QtOTCqOMSum5iQ1LkHb6lg
That was amazing, inspiring!
How I wish someone would compose Skarpi's story into a ballad... :)
i lve it...such a beautiful song...
very happy to have the pleasure of listening to this ...
Leonardo Nóbrega thanks for the kind words. It's hard to believe this piece of music is nearly 4 years old. I still love it, and need to remember to play it live more often since folks really seem to dig it. Cheers, kb
It really is quite beautiful
Beautiful!
Great song man I love the harmonics.
beautiful instrument, beautiful music... listening this while reading the book takes the experience to a completely whole new world...i've been searching for all the songs mentioned in the book...more from you would be more than welcome
Beautiful song.
wow beautiful. i love the name of the wind
thank you so much. I listen this every time that I need a little of Kvothe
Awesome job man!
This is really good.Congratulations..
your music is really especial. Thanks, for share it us. I really apreciate it
Thank you Franko. Cheers, kb
Keep up the awesome work I love it I wish I was able to play with that much love and passion that you put into that pice. My you have the most wonderful day
+Python Gaming thank you so much for the kind words. Hope you have a great day too.
beautiful
This is gorgeous. Definitely fits the mood of the book. Wistful, melancholic, contemplative. The Harp Guitar was a good choice, as was the lute tuning. I would love it if you ever released the sheet music/tabs for the guitar half of the song
Outstanding.
Wow, this is good. I heard this a while back and forgot how good it was, only to remember it with the new auri novella coming up (i'm so excited for that!!!). I want to thank you for posting this. It's awesomes, and not just the modern use of the word. No. I was in awe of your music.
P.S. I read the leaf-in-the-wind-music-chapter challenge down in the comments, and I am giddy with excitement.
Nicely done
Wow I wish I knew how to play this beautiful instrument. I love what you created here. Thank you
+Jason Quesada Hi Jason, thanks for the kind words. If you can play guitar, especially if you can pluck the strings with your fingers you can learn to play the harp guitar. It's hard work, but well worth the effort.
The hardest part is finding the right harp guitar for you. And if you'd like me to point you in a few different directions let me know.
Cheers, kb
Love this. Beautiful song. I don't mind the nail sound at all. I think it gives it more of a natural sound.
I love it!!
This is really good :)
If the book gets an adaptation this just needs to be in it.
Well that would be cool. I know Pat's been talking with at least one production company. We'll just have to wait and see. Thanks, kb
this is pure beauty.. wow
thank you.
Now THIS, is what I'm talking about. This song is just amazing
Goosebumps during all the entire song :,)
Beautiful! It also makes me think of a falling leaf :D
So much fun to listen to! Great book as well... actually it's a fantastical book. Your music was nice to hear, especially since I just finished The Wise Man's Fear today.
Thanks Erich, I appreciate the kind words and the share. Cheers, kb
I think I just hear part of 'memories of lightwaves' in this. Deep fantasy, out of world and so original ~
Saw you in Gloucester. Love you. Have your cds! Phenomenol
Thanks Donna. Live you right back. Have a Happy Thanksgiving. Cheers
Subscribed. Although a tad shrill, most of it was full and beautiful. I'm thoroughly impressed by this piece and your talent. Keep on being incredible!
Thank you for your kind words. It's hard to believe I recorded this over 2 years ago-my tone is much improved-ask anyone ;-) Cheers, kb
Thank you
Wow.... Just.... wow.....
Incredible! So sad I couldn't even finish watching it! (that's intended as a compliment!)
oh, that's high praise indeed.
I read the book, it's so amazing!! .. and this song is really beautiful!!!
I just can say one thing. I think I love you.
that was *awesome*
Viveka Jagadeesan thanks
What is said in the video description is absolutely true.. if you like LOTR, A song of Ice and Fire, and the rest of the GREAT fantasy stories, Patrick Rothfuss's work is likely to blow you into a three-day mindgasm! :D
My friend, you are amazing! Awesome control, how you pluck the strings with different weight and force really adds to the emotion of the piece. Truly inspiring and worthy of a very manly tear. Well done man, well done. I'm sure whatever god you believe in paused everything for a moment just to listen... If your atheist... You ARE a god, lol!
Anyways, i would like to pose a challenge to you that i have yet to see anyone in the youtube community commit to, or even attempt. There is a scene in the first book where Kvothe looses his parents and he grieves them in the wilderness, lost and alone. His way of releasing some of the emotion- as he is taught in his life long family of professional performers- is through music. So he takes his father's guitar or lute (can't really remember) and plays without stopping until he passes out from exhaustion. Fingers bleeding he wakes up the next day and does it again and again for days on end.
Eventually, what happens is he becomes so good that he could even play the sound of leaves dancing in the wind, rainfall, etc. Anyway, i guess what i would like is for you to attempt (to the best of your ability) to emulate such a scene and emotions. Deep loss, anger, rage, serenity, fearfulness, Emptyness, remembrance, and let the vicious cycle repeat again and again. It doesn't really need form just... i don't know... send us on a emotional ride through your music.
From what i have seen from you, i have faith that you could deliver something wondrous.
First, thank you for noticing. Right-hand finger independence, playing with different volume on different strings is something all of us fingerpickers spend hours and hours working on. Really appreciate that.
Regarding the challenge. Hmmm, I'm intrigued. I have a couple of tunes that I might try to put in a medley that could work-one is called Requiem and is appropriately melancholy and the other Dazed and Confuzed is on the 'angry' side. I'll see if I can't do something with those-and I'll have fun trying to write something to segue from the ballad in G minor to the other in D minor. Thanks for the challenge.
My friend, I'm gitty with anticipation!! Thanks for actually accepting.
I was always so fascinated by the simple subtlety of this part of the story where the experiencing and exploration of the world through music really brings Kvothe back to life. Even though he almost kills himself during the time in the forest. Pretty wonderful imo~*
Wooow Love it :) You play that all just from hearing, right? You're amazing *---*
omg, perfect!
I'm creating an album to listen while reading the book, again, and this will fits to well, awesome song.
Thank you very much.
This sounds wicked... very clean recording. Any effects from nail twang is barely worth mentioning..
Lovely :-)
Just wow... for 4:16 I could only listen. Really good.
Many people on here try to write their own King Killer Chronicle music, and most fall short of that with overly flashy or overly dramatic pieces.
This is different, this is right. Just right. I can just imagine a young Kvothe playing this to shy Auri on the rooftops under the light of the moon.
That is one of the kindest and coolest things anyone has said about this or any of my more than 100 instrumental compositions. And means the world to me. Thank you. From the bottom of my heart.
@@kenbonfield Hey my friend, you're the one deserving of thanks. Stumbling on this little 9 year old webcam video made my day. But as a (way less accomplished) artist myself, I know how far a few words can go. You deserve it.
@@BoarhideGaming I’m really grateful. Thanks again. And best of luck with your art. Cheers, kb
I Loved your song!
It make me remember kvothe playing lute for Auri..
Hug from Brazil Ken Bonfield!
Thanks Wesley. Those books are so inspiring. Pat needs to finish the series.
Ken Bonfield True!! Im anxious for Patrick finish that! Kingkiller Chronicles is Indescribable!
Ken Bonfield Ken, well i really Loved your song.. Can you give me the tabs please? I would be very grateful. Hug!
I would love to but I don't have any. I have TABS for some of my 6-string work, but nothing on the harp guitar. I write these tunes in my head and on the guitar, once I learn them my fingers don't seem to forget so I've never felt the need to write my music down. Sorry brother.
Ken Bonfield Oh, I get it. Unfortunately I can not play it. But anyway, thanks, brother!
also, I forgot to mention that this was pretty beautiful music:)
thanks.
Sigh..... great..... now I need a harp-guitar.... thanks alot!!! hahaha
It's absolutely amazing. Although I feel it sounds more like "Walking down the river before autumn begins" or something...
that was amazing. i want to do what you do.
What an incredibly kind thing to say. There is no higher praise, thank you.
Good, Kvothe will like this song.
This Is Amazing
Ps i know im a bit late to find this jem
Fucking awesome.
Love your ability to play so fluidly. I have been looking for your Sunday Morning track on CZcams but have not had any luck. Trying to get into playing acoustic music, what would be a good starter guitar? Btw I discovered you on Pandora!
Cody L. Hi Cody, I've not video taped Sunday Morning. It's on an album I did with violinist Joe Ebel titled Kadotume and is available on iTunes or my website as an mp3. kenbonfield.com
I just gave a lesson last night to someone who just started and he had a new Yamaha. That's the first good guitar I had and a great place to start your acoustic journey. They have a bunch of models under $500 that might strike your fancy. I've also seen some very nice Eastman guitars at similar prices.
Best of luck, kb
Wow
I was wondering how Kovthe would sound :)
Btw, where can we sign a petition for Netflix to do the tv series? :D
+Alfonsotabo Tabo really?!
thats so awesome can't wait!!!
Dying for notes
Wish to see you play this song without one string, like Kvothe in the Lay of Sir Savien ;)
Oh god
Mr. Ken !! Where is your song Sunday Morning at ?? :) I just heard it on Pandora and I loved it !
Alexis Young Hi Alexis, I haven't put it up on CZcams. It's available as an mp3 from my duo CD with violinist Joe Ebel called Kadotume. You can find it at iTunes or at my website kenbonfield.com
