    This was the one natural hair video I’ve needed for years. Just the maintenance of fros and not just achieving one. But it didn't seem like people liked to wear fros so I was struggling by myself.

    Thanks so much for sharing your routine!
    The most I’ve intentionally worn an afro was 2-3 days max. Your other recent videos on afros had me seriously reflecting on why I never tried wearing the style more than a few days per week.
    Maybe in my case, it was a combination of having waist length coily hair in an enormous afro (and the sometimes negative or unpredictably uncomfortable encounters with strangers) and a fear that wearing my long hair loose for more than a few days per week was length suicide.
    I definitely feel like afros are generally considered a more attention-seeking style- even though the care and maintenance for mine (and evidently yours) was about the same or less than other styles. Idk if afros are rarer on women because they seem to spark more prejudice in others or because of maintenance issues or some combination of these things, but it’s patently ridiculous how much I like the style and have kinda censored myself of rocking it because doing so seems to ruffle the feathers of the people around me- including other Black people, mind you. Even in 2020🤯

      @@madisonrussell2160 I wear my hair in a afro some days. I'm confused also how wearing natural hair in a afro is attention seeking. I was born with this hair. I don't understand how simply being me and wearing my natural hair is attention seeking.

    • @37StrongHair
      @37StrongHair Před rokem +4

      I realize this is an old post but the message hit home for me. I understand completely what kxlot79 is saying. For the past 6-7 years, I've kept my hair stretched and pinned up and only occasionally wearing a braid out. The past two days, I reluctantly wore an afro, very similar to ALove4me. It's an odd feeling even though it felt the most free and the most natural from all the hair styles I've worn. I felt like I was calling attention to myself. I mean, it's not very often you see naturals sporting a big fro, at least not in my city so, yeah, it sort of sticks out. Unlike women with naturally straight hair, they are all over the place so nothing unique about the way they wear their hair. People can't help but to stare at a big afro, even if briefly. I also have not figured out how to stop the ends from curling and tangling. I started with a twist out then manipulated the hair into a fro but as the day went on my ends curled up and began to tangle. Thought it would be a nightmare to detangle if I wore my afro longer than two days. So, I "tamed" my natural hair back down to a more conforming natural hair style. I think to wear a sizeable afro, especially as a woman, you have to expect stares, knots (unless you've figured out how to avoid them), people thinking you are a militant or have radical political views, and/or are seeking attention. With all that said, I think it would be really hard to keep an afro with waist length hair. I have given up on the idea of having hair that long so I'm looking to do something other than tucking, stretching, plaiting, cornrowing, locing, and hiding (weaves, wigs), which seems to be the way most natures go unless they are vloggers. I am going to try my afro again. Maybe the more I do it, the less strange it will feel and I will be able to block out what other people might be thinking. Happy Fro Journey!

    Your hair is so, so beautiful 😍😍 I’m chuckling because our routines are so similar. The “base style” that I do doesn’t matter much: braidout, twistout, rod set, wash and go (gel), wash and fro (no gel). All of them have the same maintenance routine and lowkey end up looking the same after running and workouts, etc. lol.

    Very nice and interesting week in your hair, your Afro brings back so many memories from my high school day (1976), when I wore an Afro for my senior year. It wasn’t a planned thing although my older sister had an Afro like Angela Davis, anyways I went to the college boards with a cousin-in-law, when she had to perform the half shaved look on a client (me), that was a thing then also, anyways when we came back from Austin, Tx. I decided to shave my hair pretty low actually it was summer before my senior year, and my hair grew back out during Sr. year, and I loved my Afro, didn’t let it get as long as your hair is, but it was a nice length and I again loved my hair, right now with the texture and strands being as fine as they are will merely flop, I think if I cut it shorter as many ladies in my age group has done, then I would most likely get my fro back. Who knows anyways after this long post I enjoyed watching your fro week and sharing what you did as well as what was learned during this time. Sorry long post!😁😁

    Another great video. I have to say, your Dickey wash n go video really has been a game changer for my routines. I definitely don't have wash day every 1-2 days. But it taught me the power of every 4-5 days instead of going the full seven. Going 7 days or more increases the knots and tangles. It worked out great for shower wash n go styling and I want to apply it to my Afro styling as well.
