Tuareg rebels claim control of army bases in northern Mali

  • Tuareg rebels in northern Mali say they have seized control of two military bases, in the town of Lere, near the border with Mauritania.
    Violence has escalated since UN peacekeeping troops began withdrawing from the north.
    The pull-out was demanded by Mali's junta.
    Coup leaders say they are considering mobilising reservists, and have called off independence day celebrations next week.
    Erwan De Cherisey is a Specialist of defense and security issues and principal at Janes - which provides open source intelligence and analysis.

    The Tuaregs are supposed to focus on Morocco,Tunisia and Libya. France is supplying arms to them like they have done before but will be neutralized. Take it to the bank. France and America needs to leave Afrika.

      Where is your proof France is supplying arms to the Tuaregs? And if Mali wanted to neutralize them, they sent a portion of their security forces to help "defend" Niger.

      Mali will fail, with or without the French. Stop living in delusion, the Malian military is not capable of stopping them because they are ill equipped to fight these groups. Clearly there's great divisions within Mali and clearly one group has sympathy from the Arab world. Watch 'Africa's Afghanistan' unravel before your eyes...sadly.

      Tuareg are fighting because of the colonial borders drawn by France and Europe. If the Tuareg had independence, they would stop fighting every couple of years. They do not wish to be subjects of Mali. Why should any people not be allowed autonomy on their own lands?

    Militant groups are having a field day in Burkina Faso and Mali since the overthrowing of elected governments and withdrawal of international troops and aid. But Im sure the coup leaders (dictators) currently in power have it "all under control" and soon the Sahel region will "prosper."

    Western countries should let the African fight this themselves and should not put the lives of their citizens at risk . Even if Mali 🇲🇱 capital is taken by rebels, the West should not intervene. Let them seek help from the Vagner group.
