Hi I'm Mari Yume, the personification of dreams & I finally became a VTuber so I can spend time with you outside of the dream realm! Today I want to discuss if full body tracking is worth it for VTubers and for VTubing. I have seen a lot of VTubers throw 3D VTubing under the bus because it looks "uncanny" (which ya sometimes it does) or that Live2D is just superior.
After using a Live2D model for over 3 years and finally debuting my 3D model, I have come to realize that I really enjoy VTubing in 3D. Maybe one of the reasons why there are not a lot of 3D VTubers is because they either lack the knowledge or resources on reaching their potential with 3D content. I think that there are a lot of benefits to streaming with both mediums (Live2D and 3D), but it all just depends on what it is you want to do in 3D.
To me, I think full body tracking is totally worth it because I want to be more expressive on stream with my community. Before mocopi by Sony (which is today's sponsor of this video) VTubers were forced to either buy dedicated VR equipment, which isn't ideal if you don't want to constantly use a headset or don't have the space to set up base stations, OR you had to buy something extremely expensive like an xsens suite or rokoko. Now, thanks to mocopi, VTubers finally have a more easy and accessible way to VTube with their 3D model and get full body tracking. I noticed that mocopi has been given a lot of flack on it's tracking accuracies and Sony responded to this feedback and have been working carefully on improving their product. I think mocopi deserves more recognition because this product is finally making 3D VTubing more accessible to VTubers like me who just want to make content with our 3D model.
I think a lot of the VRChat gurus are upset because they thought this product was specifically tailored to them, but I think this product is tailored towards VTubers and 3D content creators. Sony was kind enough to include OSC tracking in their software so we can connect it to VRChat and the fact that they want to keep improving their product shows me that they really do care about the VTubing and VR community. Thank you Sony for letting me try mocopi and I am very excited to start using this on stream and pushing the boundaries of 3D VTubing like never before.
I hope my insight could open your perspective on mocopi and full body tracking because if you are serious about VTubing or making 3D content, but don't have a dedicated space or a lot of money to dish out on full blown VR equipment or motion tracking gear then this is a great tool to introduce you to 3D content. My goal is to one day host my own virtual show in 3D and have special VTuber guests. I think with mocopi, I am one step closer to reaching that dream.

Why did you show a multiple year old video of the slimevr trackers? And they have better accuracy than mocopi for a lower cost.

My take on full body tracking is that everyone is different. There is no right answer on which is the best 3D mocap solution as it depends on different factors: What is your budget? What quality do you want? What programs will you use? Less settings or more settings? How much drift can you tolerate? UI preference? Comfortability? Room Size? Etc. I have a Rokoko mocap suit, VR trackers, and other mocap solutions and honestly for me it's just fun to experiment them all, that's the beauty of full-body tracking. While I don't have Mocopi and heard some bad stuff about it like drifting and the phone-only app requirement, I am glad Sony is doing their best to improve the tracking (Maybe one day I can get my hands on the trackers and test them out!). Do note SlimeVR doesn't require math to set up (Also has a new cleaner and simplified UI) and it's just as easy as Mocopi as well as the VSeeFace clip shown looks like OpenSeeFace rather than iPhone, RTX, or MediaPipe tracking which those tracking solutions are the more newer and more recommended for better quality. Overall, just have fun with VTubing and remember that there is so much to 3D that as you explore more 3D VTuber apps and such, it's like going into a whole wonderland of learning! Happy VTubing Mari!
I used to use an xbox 360 kinect for full body 4 years ago. I put 3 psmove controllers onto myself and put a darken lens filter over the rgb camera to make it track better. It worked for 2 years, but eventually got vive trackers. It worked for dancing, laying down, sitting, etc; it was a very frustrating system and took 15 minutes every time to set it up. I had a video setting up a kinect for full body years ago and a lot of comments were asking how my tracking was so good for kinect tracking. If you have any questions relating to that let me know!
Mocopi trackers are great! They let you get most of what full body has to offer, just make sure you run them through moslime for better tracking.
Agreed with the elitism comments too, having the best makes setups very dull and predictable. Janky setups like a lot of people in VR or vtubing use is great!

Having Valve Index Full Kit and 3 Valve trackers, I definitely prefer making content in 3D, even if I don't move that much. But having the ability to move in 3D space and interact with it is awesome.

Why would you buy this if the movement looks rather poor? and the price of Mocopi isn't correct. a set of 3 tundra trackers costs around 360$ Let's say you have to buy trackstraps along with it (100$ estimate since they come in all types) , you'd be spending 460$ ish on 3 tundra's. vs 449$ on mocapi, problem is, you'll only be using 3 of the 6 trackers that you're buying, because you don't need a head and 2 wrist trackers since the headset and controllers already give out those positions. So unless you can use those trackers also for (knees or elbows) (which i honestly don't know if you can or cannot) 3 of those trackers might be completely useless.
And although freedom of movement is good, let's face it, you're not going to be going all the way to wallmart with this. (unless you're one of 'those' people) (see people at wallmart video)
But my story would only count if you 'already have' basestations, if you still have to buy those, then the price will go up quite high, but still.
When i look at the movement in this video it looks terrible. In the end it's still a story of, you get what you pay for,namely the bigger your wallet, the better your vr experience will be.
Hi Darky, I appreciate your feedback, but as I stated in my video, this is a product for VTubers, not really VRChatters. The VRChat integration is something that can also be done with mocopi and Sony is working on the tracking accuracy. They have released a beta version where you can take the wrist trackers and strap them to your knees (as I showed in 03:30 ) and this update will be getting pushed out soon. mocopi is a tool for VTubers who normally have to buy mocap suits to 3D VTube (which costs over thousands of dollars) or we have to use a webcam which has terrible tracking. Many VTubers are not VR creators and many of us are not even interested in VRChat, that is just a bonus to the product's capabilities.
Also, the "shit movement" you're referring to has to do with my actual 3D model not being set up properly in VRChat which is why my hands move a bit weird and I have a lot of clipping. This has nothing to do with mocopi as a tracking software and it's a little insensitive to insult my 3D modeler's work who has been trying their hardest to help me with my 3D model. From my understanding, you're a VRChatter or a VR guru and I don't think this product is for you. Thank you for watching the video and I hope this is insightful for you!

If anyone reads this, I'm a couple or so months old new Vtuber whos trying to do 2D Vtubing because their more popular and they pop in a way i do think 3D vtubing is nice but i love the cute cartoony look and feel of 2D Vtubing honestly getting my character and model designed is a pa'in in a butt. Also, the small artists on twitter *which is now X but still call it Twitter* are awful when they come up to you and offer art like serio'usly, Who does that?! Its so st'upid because their quality is nothing like the ones from Tw'itter, like ThaoChibi whos art is so cute and adorable.

Weird question. When using full tracking can u change background to irl so tech u can record yourself walking around apartment and see where y going and chat can still see ur model

you wont actually need a leapmotion anymore,
there are trackers that are only using webcam which tracks your full body now
What is the latency when using the Mocopi standalone/natively with the Quest (without using a dongle. Is it in an acceptable or usable range?
Is it really the case (I read it somewhere) that all trackers must be activated, even if not all are in current use? And that the whole setup crashes if one tracker fails?
So my only confusion upon doing research into this particular product is whether or not they connect to the pc as well as your mobile device.
I understand that most folks don't really have the money to spare for even the mocopi? Device so ye it hurts the wallet😅

Tbh it depends on content. If you just react andy and play games. Why need 3d its more punishing to your pc and expensive. But if you nove around, doing skits, etc. like Filian. Its definitely worth it in 3d.
Considering they were using the original xbox kinect for animation motion capture, I imagine it probably works pretty well. :V

Idk how tf you start off with Live2D... And then continue like that for years before exploring 3D... Like, I kinda get it, intuitively YOU WOULD THINK that 3D would be more difficult than 2D... Idk, just makes sense given how 2D games are less complicated generally than 3D games... But still, Live2D has such a barrier to entry if you want a nicely rigged model, particularly a unique one that fits an aesthetic you want... Compared to 3D where you just make a model for free, convert some files and and what not and you're pretty much ready... I'm sure if you do like a very basic 2D model that's the easiest, but Live2D so expensive... I need AI to be able to do the rigging and everything for me >:I

you can make a 10 point slimevr trackers for like 100 bucks. gotta reset them every half an hour or so, or you can make the better version for like 200
As Twice said! You don't really need to use the hand trackers so you can use them for your legs for a better tracking (so it won't be so jittery), you also don't need the head so you can probably use them as a hip tracker for VRC!
