Miss Trudy, by now you know that some people will pick at minor things (passport) to get on your nerves especially if they don't have anything positive to say, so just ignore. Swaziland was often confused with Switzerland, so Eswantini would solve that problem. Keep doing your positive work for us all, we appreciate what you are doing.

No, it is not named after the king (at least not the current one). The current king was born Makhosetive, but was given the name "Mswati the 3rd" after he became king, named after one of our founding fathers. "Eswatini" is basically one of the names for Swaziland in our local language, possibly taken from the first Mswati. You can also say kaNgwane in our local language, which again, is a name inspired by another founding father, Ngwane.

Africa is so beautiful!!! I am home sick! Swaziland is beautiful. I visited the country in December 1989. The experience was memorable. We got a rental car and drove through beautiful valleys. We drove between Manzini and Mbabane. The names of places were romantic. This is all very nostalgic for me.

Just to add re road tolls. All national roads in SA have permanent tolls, this ensures national roads are maintained to the highest standard. You can drive from beit bridge at zim border to Cape town on road called N1 which is a trip of 1700 kilometers without a single pot hole. The price of toll???It must have been R98 not R980

Interesting facts: (1) the Automotive Supplier Park based in Pretoria is the biggest in the continet. It is different to other assembly plants (what mechanics do) as it consolidates the entire automotive value chain in one complex including R&D plant (what engineers do) (2) the 1st electric car on the continent to ever be FULLY designed, manufactured and assembled was in Pretoria, SA around year 2010; however it never went into mass production due to profitability concerns (3) this was not the 1st car to FULLY built in SA. The 1st one was built right after World War 2. (4) SA also built aircrafts for non commercial purposes. (5) The Swati ppl are actually made up of tribes from SA (they are SAcns), and their land actually covered more than just Swaziland.

Eswatini sounds way too better than Swaziland. Another thing Eswatini and or KaNgwane are native names of our country, we've been using them ever since so to us as eMaswati/Swazis is not a new name it's just that now it's been made formal. Swaziland was a name given by our colonizers so we are now independent so we have to do things our way. Anyways there are a lot of African countries which changed their name e.g. Namibia, Zimbabwe to name just but a few

The other reason that they renamed the country was because people all over the world used to confuse Switzerland and Swaziland. Apparently, the Eswatini president used to be called a liar whenever he says that he is the king of "Switzerland"- I mean Swaziland. There is also a rumour that the US airforce once went to Swaziland mistakenly trying to go to Switzerland.

My dear African Youth, please do not be fooled by what looks like wealth in South Africa. This is what I call Voluntary Slavery!! Yes, the majority of South Africans are slaves to debt. The car, house, clothes, weddings, food are all bought on credit, yes people eat now and pay later. But they possess no assets, nothing. You sometimes see it when someone living that high life in real eyes when there's some tragedy in the family there's no cash for the funeral etc. The average person has a funeral policy, but people turn funerals into big parties with after-tears (alcohol), and the insurance does not cover that, meaning most go into there graves still in debt.

Whoever made that comment about the passport is a knobhead, clearly doesn't travel much. Even here in Europe people proudly show their worn-out passports with pride as it suggests you are well travelled and adventurous. Trolls just trying to dampen your day. Enjoy miss T, you are the bomb!

8:35 LOL you didn't research before you got there? South Africa is almost 70% urban.
It had an industrial revolution a century ago.
There hasn't been a rural peasantry as a large economic class, like in other developing countries, for a century.
So the country's affairs are largely urban & peri-urban. [and in transitory migration points (rural/small town/ truckstops) along neighbouring countries i.e. truck drivers, truckstops, etc on the North, Northeastern side of the country as most goods the rest of the region gets, come from SA. It's also where you are likely to find the road sign at 8:51]
Hence it's largely a land of wide, open spaces.

    eSwatini
Africa's last absolute monarch, King Mswati III of Swaziland, has changed his country's name to eSwatini. The new name, which the king announced at celebrations to announce the 50th anniversary of the country's independence from Britain and his own 50th birthday, means "land of the Swazis" in the local language.Apr 20, 2018

'...the rest of the country is this empty?' I googled it. You drove the road 17 I guess to eSwatini. What you see there left and right seems to be the so called big farms. It is all cultivated area. The whites live alone with their families in single farmhouses that are spread somewhere in the distance. I only used google maps and google earth, so I don't know what they are doing there.
SA is still a mysterious country for me. You left me a kind of not satisfied. But that is not your fault. Thank you!
