    Definitely the prettiest bench hooks I’ve seen so far. Please can I ask a very basic about chiselling? Do you follow the same bevel up, bevel down practices as you do with planes? When the wood's grain is more difficult to work with you turn the chisel over to make it bevel up? I’ve notice you do both and I wondered if you just change over just for a change or if you had a reason.

    • @WoodByWright
      @WoodByWright  Před 5 lety +1

      I talk about that a bit on the second channel. I use it bevel up as the rest of the chisel can reference the work that has been done but it can only reach so far. Then it is bevel down. For most work I use it bevel down as that gives you more control

    • @WoodByWright
      @WoodByWright  Před 5 lety

      Thanks. I do not see it as a waste at all. This piece of scrap was going to be burnt, and I saved it from the scrap pile. on top of that, it is a very old and traditional method of making hooks. but that being said waste depends on the person. around here this stuff grows on trees. LOL

I think in this video you used 4 different planes and the only one that I knew was the low angle plane. I only ask because I want to learn which plane to use when at what stage. I have bought a few at flea markets and cleaned them up but I still have much to learn, Thanks!

    • @WoodByWright
      @WoodByWright  Před 5 lety

    Why do a lot of youtube makers start their project with, “I had this scrap piece of exotic wood lying around” and say it is a fun cheap project and will cost a few hours. It would cost me more hours to find this type of wood not even considering the costs. Not specially this video or youtuber, but in general. Maybe would be nice to see the choises of wood and why you picked this one. Should I be looking for wallnut, or do I have alternatives?
