    ** edit: This video is about sharing my personal experience and presenting a few other alternatives IF you didn't want to buy from the boutiques. It's a little concerning that some people think the video is about "promoting" resellers which it is not. Consignment store/ resellers or personal shoppers are just 1 option of the few I mentioned. I don't personally agree with the fact that resellers can charge crazy premiums for very sought after Chanel bags. However the question that presents itself is how these resellers or even personal shoppers are able to obtain multiples of so many hard to get items? Whatever it may be, pls do your own research and buy what you are comfortable with. If you don't like it, don't buy from resellers, it's your choice. It is also your choice if you want to purchase and wait for your bag and buy directly from the boutique. Don't let FOMO get to you because there will always be another bag that comes out you will love. I don't think there is a right or wrong way to purchase Chanel bags but rather the most important thing is that you do what you're most comfortable with. I personally enjoy hunting for good deals so for me I won't pay a crazy premium for bags but for some people they are happy to do so as they are not able to get what they what from the boutiques and that's ok too. At the end of the day no brand is perfect and every one is entitled to their own opinion. Your money, your voice, your choice I say. We as a community should be able to share with each other without the fear of judgment. So I just please ask that you keep in respectful and classy in the comments. Thank you xo Mel

      I’ll never buy a Chanel bag new I had bad experience too no welcome in the boutique.
      My only Chanel bag I have is a Chanel Jersey red medium double flap red I bought it 2 years ago excellent condition on fashionphile cost me $1985.00 USD I love to have her she is from 1997 🎁🎉

      Totally agree on everything you say, same impression on Chanel
      Personally I never bought from Chanel cause I m young, but nothing catch my attention 🙃 the price increase in France was really chocking for a quality that is not there anymore ! It is so ridiculous to pay that amount of money 😳 And I just saw that the Jumbo retails for 7200€ in France, same price as a Kelly 25 for example. To be honest, I much prefer paying 7000€ an Hermès bag with a real quality and craftsmanship behind than those Chanel bags 😅 And same as you, a lot of people are complaining about the store experience 🙄🤭
      And another problem is that there are so much fake or “dupes”, it makes the real bags so cheap to my eyes …

    Hi Mel! I just came across your video and wanted to share my experience with Chanel in Czech Republic. This was around 2 years ago when my dad and I went on a business/leisure trip in Europe. My mom has her fair share of high-end luxury bags like LV, Prada, etc. so my dad wanted to get her a Chanel bag. We went to the store, inquired about a bag, waited for so long for an SA to assist us but got completely snobbed. She didn't even entertain us at all, just looked at us once. We waited for an hour and she never came back to us so we got pissed and just went to Dior and bought their classic Lady Dior handbag. Dior was so welcoming to us despite my dad and I not wearing full on luxury clothes even suggesting shoes for myself to buy. I think Chanel staff judges people based on their look or something but if a person has the money, why ignore them? they don't even know our backgrounds. We just got completely turned off by Chanel's snobbish, unfriendly service that we have a bad image of them to this day.

      They did it on purpose .. chic French women would own a Chanel bag as an occasion bag little matter what job they had .. a lower paying job would make them save up longer. Chanel specifically changed their brand strategy about 8 years ago (under glorified Karl Lagerfeld) where it was rumoured in board meetings the strategy was developed they don’t want European secretaries or teachers carrying the bag because it would make it less desirable for the rich from Russia or China. That is why they raised the prices under a „price adjustment“ excuse - they want to stop ordinary people wearing Chanel. It S disgusting

    I'm also finding pretty rude SA at Chanel here in Taipei. I've been to two different Chanel stores, and gotten the same awful treatment. It's like they feel they are too good to serve me even though I'm clearly there to spend money. In contrast, I went to Dior to buy the Lady Dior bag, the SAs were so nice, and they gave me a bottle of Moet and Chandon to drink while waiting for my purchase to be wrapped. My son, who was with me, was given juice and cookies. LV, VCA, and Cartier also have excellent SA. I think I'm done with Chanel as well.

    The last price increase has priced me out. The quality does not justify the $$
    I refuse to believe chanel is immune , what goes up will go down like the stock market. I will wait until their quality equals hermes , they boxed themselves in that category so they better step it up

      I remember in 2016/2017 the small classic flap price in Australia actually dropped a few hundred in price but this was when this size wasn’t very popular. I would love to think the prices for their classics would at least remain the same but I’m afraid their plan is only to increase prices further. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if they brought back the 18k gold plating at least in the 2.55’s? Yes I must agree the quality is not at the level of Hermes and their prices are not that far off Hermes prices too. I do think some of their novelty minaudieres are beautifully made but again these are extremely pricey. Thanks so much for watching Jessica x

    My sentiments, exactly. They have been treating loyal customers poorly since last year. Even when you’re a VVIP at that. I stopped purchasing for myself as well. I love the brand but they most of the time pick on people who they want. It’s very disappointing. 💔

      @@MelinMelbourne same been loyal for 10 years straight and last year they started to have horrible customer service. A certain supervisor who actually is a Filipino too, (from my motherland) was blocking my clothes because she was power tripping like crazy. So sad. Recently they were inviting me to shop again. Like excuse me? Clients make the brand not the other way around. Thanks Mel for raising this up!

    I am very smart about my luxury purchases, and I never thought I would actually give in to Chanel because of how the exclusive price raising goes against what Coco Chanel actually believed in (fashion for the everyday working woman), but I really think the straps are an EXCELLENT idea for a Chanel lover on a budget.

    Hi Mel, my girlfriends and I just got back from Berlin, Germany and we went to both Chanel boutiques at KaDawe and Kudamm, and let me tell you, the customer service there was just amazing. I am not sure we would have gotten the same service in Paris or not but we were treated with such respect and atentiveness. We spent a lot of time in each of those boutiques and were treated so well and patiently that we bought everything we wanted. You are right, you shouldn't spend your money where you are not feeling fully welcomed. Love from Miami, Florida where services in Chanel boutique also sucks.

    I’ve had the same disappointing experience in the Chanel boutiques too which is such a shame because it really tarnishes the brand and the whole experience.       Hi Amy, yes in some instances sought after bags are selling over retail. However you can still find plenty of good deals if you hunt around. With buying pre-loved it does require more patience lol but half the fun is hunting I say xx

    Reminds me of the time when I went into the store to purchase a bag and showed them (I am not joking) 10-15 screenshots of bags I was interested in and the store did not have any of them. It’s as if they don’t want your business so I took my business elsewhere. Nowadays I only purchase Chanel from personal shoppers or consignment stores.

      Same thing happened to me when I went to a Chanel store in a Neiman Marcus. The SA claimed that they didn't have anything I wanted in stock but showed me this smaller flap bag that felt unbelievably cheap.

    I’m living in Germany and luckily we don’t have any waiting list . For this price waiting list for what for black bag , most copied bag . I don’t want this bag even for free . And there we go waiting list . How cray ! Chanel never gonna be Hermès .

    I’ve experienced both super nice and super rude Chanel SAs, both at my Nordstrom boutique and my regular store. The declining quality with the increase in prices just puts classics bags at too high a price for me to justify buying them when a Kelly is only a couple thousand more.

      I always wanted a chanel bag but after visiting their store in hawaii and watching the SA accidently break off the zipper from a wallet she was showing us turned me off and just demobstrated the poor quality not worth such a high price point. The SA was super sweet btw.

    I bought my first Chanel bag last week! The Athens boutique was super helpful and gave me a great experience. I will say that when I was looking at the bags, I expected the quality to be much better especially for the price! Prices are insane! 😳 Now that I've had the boutique experience I wouldn't mind buying pre-owned or somewhere else rather than the boutique.

    It’s like Saks Fifth Avenue in the US - wretched customer service - the SA’s act as if you should thank them for being able to shop there. Plenty of Chanel on the Asian resale market - buy from the Japanese. And plenty of luxury brands from which to choose - take your hard-earned money elsewhere. 😘 from the US.

    What I like a lot about your sponsored videos is you also frequently work with them for custom items! Love the card holder chain idea, and a lot of your other collaborations as well. I like that it’s not just the company’s product being advertised to us, but that you’ve injected a bit of your creativity and ideas as well. That said, I think the card holder on chain idea was long a thing for Hermes Kelly Wallets, but i’m glad it’s being applied to Chanel’s ridiculously priced SLG micro bags!

    I really hope Chanel is listening to what the people are saying.
    Complacency and "snootiness" will not bring them very far. Here in Singapore, in-store experience is exactly the same. Quality has definitely decreased and prices are too insane.
    One day another brand with better values and experience could very well overtake the historical standing as the most desirable luxury brand.

    This was so, so informative and helpful! Thank you so much Mel! My story: so out of chance I was about to head to the Chanel boutique in my city for the first time. I've only recently gotten into luxury brands and I've been considering buying a classic wallet or CC dangle earrings (I want to congratulate myself on a career achievement!). When I went in the staff was kind and courteous thankfully, but the stock they had itself was so bare even to my untrained eye I could tell they were running incredibly low on inventory. To give a bit of an image - there weren't enough earrings or wallets to fill up a single tray, the tray was roughly the size of a large laptop. They had one classic flap wallet in a deep brown that was pretty, but not what I was looking for for a first purchase. Yelp photos from years ago show the walls displaying flap bags in every color and shade from ceiling to floor, but for one reason or another that was no longer the case. :/ Either way, I didn't know about the gold plating, it really makes the prices increases lately just the more confusing and putting me off. Will definitely be buying from the shops you mentioned and the insert. SUCH A GAME CHANGER!!! Lots of love and thanks to you Mel

    I quit buying from Chanel years ago. The quality simply wasn’t there anymore. Besides, the frequent price increases are ridiculous. Same thing goes for the Hermès «games». I’m not begging to give them my money!

    I hear negative feedback a lot about Chanel. That’s really sad that they don’t know how to value their clients. Obviously customer service and welcoming them is a big part of Luxury.

    It’s really hard to find a good SA in Chanel. But the last experience I had wasn’t great. I purchased a bag. It felt like I was shopping in a supermarket. I didn’t even get any service. The SA wasn’t even interested in engaging with me. I was really disappointed

    Love the inserts such pretty colors!! I’ve never been into Hermès it’s a little plain for me, love the scarves but I don’t wear scarves:p and I’m not playing games to buy a product:p I’ve given up on Chanel because of the quality and I’m about to let go of Louis Vuitton! Charging more for less quality bags seems ridiculous🤔 if they don’t want my money there are plenty of brands who do🤗

    I agree about the local boutique experience. Same here in Singapore too… i feel the SAs are not as warm and friendly as LV etc…. Also its always so difficult to get classics and minis here. I gave up and have not bought from Chanel locally for 3yrs.
    Love my Chanel experiences in Paris and London. Hope to be able to travel again soon so that I can buy overseas!
    But otherwise wont be buying any bags in local boutiques anytime soon…

      @@MelinMelbourne its actually very common…. In Singapore they reserve all the good stuffs for their vips… even if they have stocks available they will say no stock. They want to deploy Hermes tactic where they want you to keep buying their seasonal items before they offer you theirs classics… which I personally do not enjoy. I buy what I like, I don’t believe in buying their other stuffs just to “support” their sales tactic… I have moved on to other brands where i am getting so much better service and welcome. I can live w/o having more Chanel bags…. Same logic applies to Birkin. I refused to participate in such “games” at all.
      If collectively all of us were to stop buying and support such gimmicks of theirs, they eventually will have to cave in n re-strategise. But unfortunately, there’s just too many out there still willing to play the game

      @@pxl4689 Yes! I've been observing this in Sg as well. The last few times I've been to the store, they shut off 75% of the store to have "private events". They have super limited inventory for those of us who walk in to the store. And i have to agree that the quality has been decreasing. We wanted to buy a new classic black short wallet to replace our old one; the SA showed us a display piece which has more scratches than our 10yr old one. The vibe is not good, almost like people in the private event having a "feast" and those who walk in have the "leftovers'. I'm not supporting them any more. We bought an Hermes wallet in the end. Much better quality, treatment and service.

    I’ve spent a large sum of money at various high end luxury stores and truly the experience can really make or break the whole experience. It’s sad that big brands rather make a sale then try and make every guest service an excellent. I’m grateful for all of the SAs that have been so nice to me!

    I had an unpleasant experience there too. It was Nov 2nd before the price increase ($7800 to $8800 for a medium classic double flap) and I drove there to pick up my beige caviar and gold hardware bag and she texts me when I’m 10 minutes away telling me she sold it…
    I was so angry. I asked why she didn’t keep it for me if she knew I was driving there to buy it. She told me they apparently can’t keep a bag.. Anyway. Very unpleasant so I decided to look online. I found a beautiful one for a great price ($3000 off retail) on FarFetch and it’s coming from Japan. It gets here on Tuesday, I’m so excited! If not, I can return it and hopefully find another one at one of the sources you suggested.

    I was really shocked that I was not the only one who had this problem, the same thing happens to me in the Saudi Chanel boutique in the Middle East, they always make me feel unwelcoming and unfriendly, so I chose to spend my money on brands that respect their customers

    Good on you Mel! I also have a very bad experience from my Chanel boutique when my SA rang me early this year to tell me to come down immediately to grab and pay for the mini bag that I had pre-ordered. When I told her not on that particular day but rather on the weekend when I usually find the time to go down to the City as it is quite far away from my home. She told me if I wasn't free on that day, she would send me a link to pay for it first. I was wondering what was the hurry?? Then she told me straightaway if I didn't pay for it first, they would have to offer it to another person. I was like if that was the case, then offer it to your other person! So I told her she could do it as I was not interested to buy it any more, and that she had ruined my shopping experience with her! I had actually SPENT $84,350.00 worth of Chanel bags from September last year till Dec last year before she did that to me. So I held back and not buy from the boutique any more. I rather spend my hard-earned money with other overseas resellers who treat me with better respect and customer service. No rushing me to pay up or else...get lost!

    Wow I’m glad I saw your video! The bad experience with Chanel SA is true for everywhere and everyone I guess. Funny enough that they tried to be Hermès but Hermès do treat their customer way better. I’ve been to many Chanel boutiques and I can’t say that any of them was actually decent….

    I was really disappointed in my SA before the July 1st price increase. I had texted him a few days before looking for a few things and didn’t hear back until AFTER July 1st. I understand that he was probably busy but it felt purposeful. ☹️

      I have actually heard that from a few people as well. They definitely do have stock out the back. Maybe they are given instructions from head office to hold back and only sell some stock after the price increase? I guess we will never know the reason reason but just know that you are not alone on this lovely xo

    it happened to me in NYC PRADA, I understand my outfit was not the best, but also was not excuse enough for the Asian-looking associate who follows me, the entire time asking me, are you ok? Are you ok? Since that, I refuse to buy any PRADA goods. Not even for free, I am not a person who love to play those games. The same day I visited Chanel, LV, and was no problem whatsoever..so that is where I do purchases

    My experience in Barcelona 🇪🇦 was good (this is where I live). I bought a coco crush ring for 1300 euros which wasn't the sale of the year for them. It was during the pandemic so the boutique was empty. I got to try a few classic flaps. The few times we went my toddler always gets a lot of attention from the SAs and security agents. She always gets a Camelia flower! I really wanted a flap cardholder. They never had it so I kept writing them a few WhatsApp messages once in a while. After like 2 months, the SA responded they had one. I asked him to keep it for me for 2 hours and I was expecting him to say no. Instead he said "we can't normally save any item but I know you've been looking for it for a while so I am going to help you". This was really nice because I am sure he could tell I am just a normal person who buys luxury items (not the rich type).

    Just a friendly correction Mel. The patent green flap is actually a Maxi Double Flap. The front flap is to far down the bag to be a jumbo. And the second flap with the press stud is to large also. Hope that is ok to let you know ❤️. Love your vids. I only buy chanel second hand as the quality of older pieces is far superior and prices are far better. Xx

    Absolutely understand how you feel. I had a beyond terrible experience with Chanel, coupled with their declining quality has turned me off from buying any more of their bags. The bad quality now includes things like bad stitching and even their gold chains fade in color. I have not bought a Chanel bag for almost two years.

    I only have one Chanel handbag. With the recent price increases I cannot afford Chanel. The preloved market is too expensive and the boutique prices are outrageous. If I had the money for a medium flap I would rather purchase an Hermes bag.

    I absolutely love your beige jumbo. That is the exact combination I am after in my next Chanel bag, which is going to be preloved. I bought a vintage Chanel Medallion Tote on eBay last year, and yes it’s been authenticated. Like Japan Australia has really tough rules about selling fakes too and I have never had an issue buying preloved in Australia. I got the most amazing deal. I love vintage Chanel bags. Back in the day they were built like tanks and this one looks like it was made this year not more than 20 years ago.
    I haven’t bought a bag from the boutiques for nearly 10 years. They are just too ridiculously expensive for what they are. And you are so right, there are some amazing bargains out there especially if you are like me and don’t do mini bags.
    The straps from Samorga are a terrific idea and offer some very interesting possibilities.

    Mel thank you so much for making this video. I really value your opinion and appreciate your honesty that it may not be totally worth to buy in-store. In my personal experience, I worked so hard to save money for my first classic flap and right when I was about to put my name on the waitlist it went up nearly $1000 july 1st. Fortunately, the 21A collection came out with a beautiful small flap black caviar bag that was $2000 less than a classic flap so I grabbed that instead. But the months leading up to this first ever Chanel fashion purchase, I was met with poor customer service and very limited supply at all local boutiques. I am young but I did plenty of research and knew what I liked and still received some of the worst treatment compared to other top luxury houses. It’s disappointing that for right now the luxury experience of going into the boutique and picking out a dream bag is gone. I think moving forward I will do pre-loved for Chanel. Hopefully they take into account feedback from you and others.

    As someone who got scammed as a seller by vestiare (yes the actual company itself not the buyers)....i just think ppl need to look into the vestiare scams, majority of the sellers stories are identical which says alot. Beware of vestiare...not sure why people still think its not shady 😳

    I love your videos Mel! Thank you for providing your insight. I have always been a Chanel lover and for the majority of my life the brand has been out of reach. When I finally saved up enough for my dream bag I was so disappointed by the SAs that I had met at my local boutique. After a few years of trying I finally met an SA I really like but still I cannot access the bag that I want🙄. I thought I had spent a good amount of money there but I guess I’m not a big enough spender! It is unfortunate that even you have experienced poor customer service! The entire experience should be great for the money we are spending but alas this must not be the priority. I am cautious moving forward but I’m glad to see there are other avenues out there!

    I live in Dallas USA, want to share my experience with Chanel.
    I’ve puechased a Chanel bag in Neiman Marcus few years ago , recently i called Chanel boutique since I want to buy Chanel card holder. They said I don’t have account in Chanel boutique therefore I can’t buy any Chanel products by phone even can’t put my name on the waiting list. I told about my Neiman Marcus purchase but they said if it was not done in their boutique, it could not be regarded as Chanel purchase. And the customer service lady just told me over and over to contact SA in boutique.
    Neiman Marcus is one of the biggest department store chain with many lixury brands in USA also has lot of Chanel stores in their’s besides the price is definitely same with the boutique.
    I totally disappointed and couldn’t understand at all what their sales goal is for only full of thier greed.

    I am so glad you did this video Mel. We don't have a Chanel store here so I can't go instore anyway plus the prices are ridiculous. I have bought preloved and Vintage of late also and have got some amazing bargains. All bough from some of the Luxe Groups on Facebook that I am members of. My latest one arrived yesterday. A gorgeous 6 series Chanel classic flap in the Jumbo size in black lambskin also with the 24k gold plated hardware. It is like new. Even better than the photos and they were great.I have the authenticity card and booklet that look new as well. It is just gorgeous.I bought it for $3,000 AUD. An absolute steel. Needless to say a lot of members wanted to buy it if I didn't. Before that I bought a Chanel East West flap about 14 years old in beige lambskin. Also just like new and I paid $3,100 AUD . My 3rd bargain was a Chanel GST in beige caviar also like new and I paid $1800, I have seen them go for double that upwards in not good condition. I think I scored pretty well with this haul. They are all stunning .The Gst and Jumbo I have been wanting for ages so they were worth the wait and the East west flap I just stumbled across and just couldn't say no. :) Hope you are staying safe.     I love love love the new grey small classic flap! I don’t have any experiences at Chanel, but it is so sad to hear that some people have these bad experiences. For the prices that they have, the service should always be outstanding! Loved this video Mel! ❤️

    Chanel is hit or miss in terms of customer service...however with the prices they charge...SA's should be on their best behaviour, no &'s , if's or but's 🤑

    I walked into Chanel in Sydney and there was an aura of idk a weird superiority complex from staff which isn't uncommon as I've seen from reviews in other Chanel boutiques and yeah, be careful and diligent around resellers because replicas and knock offs are becoming far too similar that even trained staff have difficulty judging whether it's legitimate or not.

    Hi Mel just like you, I’m glad I started buying my classic Chanel bags when I did about 5 to 6 years ago and I agree with you 110% the new bags price is not worth The quality of the bags being produced today Chanel‘s quality has dropped so low that I’m actually shocked. I have Recently been to my local Chanel boutique and experienced crooked pockets, Popped stitches, leather wear. I haven’t purchased Chanel bags for the past 2 years either and I am not planning on purchasing any brand new bag from the boutique again. Pre-loved is always amazing and I’m all for it but for me I just love buying from the boutiques. Also to top that off I love Hermès the most I love my Birkin‘s and Kelly’s and no other luxury fashion house can ever get close to anything Hermès creates with her amazing craftsmanship and quality. I do agree Chanel is trying to get to Hermés level but I’m so sorry Chanel that’s Never gonna happen.

      You need to look at Delvaux Brilliant. It will stand up to Hermès with no problem.
