the thing we can all relate to about The Queen's Gambit is that how engrossed we became with the story despite our lack of interest or understanding with chess...it being the center of the series and yet ignorable for those who wanted it to be and still being able to connect to Beth's passion for it.
yes! i do think it was so interesting to learn more about chess and it made me want to play (something i've never even thought about before lol)

Omg yes, The Queen's Gambit is, along Tenet, my favorite things to watch this year. The show was just unbelievably amazing, one of the best I've ever seen! Anya Taylor Joy is crazy talented 🙌🏻

There’s a live action ERASED on Netflix which is pretty great. The child actors are great and their segments were truly heart tearing at some points. The ending was kinda muddled but totally worth a shot.

The eczema on my hands has been bad lately too! I think it’s due to washing my hands more than usual during Corona virus... I hope yours gets better soon!
hope you get better soon too! i bought some gloves both for washing the dishes and for handling food while i cook, that way i don't have to wet my hands too much while i'm at home and that has helped. i've also been moisturizing sooo much especially every time i wash my hands!

i recently watched La Belle Époque and i totally recommend it. really made my night a lot better. set design, actings, story, soundtracks everything was soooo beautiful. i just found some scenes unnecessary but other than it's really really great and a joy to watch.

i recently watched looking for alaska and i did really like it! but it was a bit slow in the beginning (not gonna lie). however, it gets better and better each episode and i wanted to watch more after the show ended!

I watched both The Queen's Gambit and Erased (anime) in 2 days. And let me tell you it was perfect. I *loved* them. I highly recommend both of them.

The Queen's Gambit is my favourite tv show now, after Over the Garden Wall. I felt like I was reading a book.
And I also watched A Silent Voice and Whisper of the Heart. And I am watching Avatar: The Last Airbender and it is great.
Oh, and, Monika, I am still waiting for that Spirited Away commentary. It is my favourite movie after The Lord of the Rings trilogy. And then comes V for Vendetta and Christopher Nolan movies with Your Name.
And so since you wanted tv show recommendation:
I am watching Hilda right now, it's an animated tv show and it's like a mixture of Gravity Falls and Over the Garden Wall. I love it, you can find it on Netflix.
I highly recommend you watch Person of Interest. It's a high quality tv show with an original concept.
I recommend Sherlock, but you have probably already seen it.
And as anime, I'd recommend Charlotte. and Noragami. They are both beautiful and Noragami's opening is on another level.
And as sitcom, I recommend The Good Place. I am watching it right now and it's my fav sitcom.
And I know this is not about books but I _finally_ started reading 1984, and I am *loving* it!

For Erased, Netflix get a live-action with japanese actors. It´s pretty good.
I know three languages ..can read and write them and speak lol( no big deal coz I'm Indian and it's crazy regional here)🤓. Speaking of movies...Monika please pls pls watch this Chinese film "Better Days" . I recently watched it and it broke me ..absolutely devastatingly real and stark ..it made me cry so much. It's about 17/18 yr olds going through that crucial last year of high school just before college and the insane exam pressure and stress but most of all about BULLYING! I could relate to the film so much...it was so beautiful in ever way...it also happens to be a love story..honestly I want more people to know about it! Honestly it's just pure soul stirring heart wrenching portrayal of the human condition🤧🧡Just go watch it coz I am so short of the proper ways to describe it...i suck at articulating ...especially when I love something so much😅😁and also another chinese (cantonese) film that I wanna reccommend u is "Chungking Express"!! U have to watch this little delight of a film especially if you're a film lover. All I can say is that it's a classic cult arthouse indie film! It's like the poster image of that genre...just go watch it! The director Wong Kar Wai is a very reverred director who really made Hong Kong a character in his films😍😍. Also another one of his materpiece ...Fallen Angels..u wont regret watching these😍😍😍. I'm so in love with East Asian stuff right now🤩🤩
If you haven't seen Patrick Melrose,you should watch it. It has some similarities to Queen's Gambit,but it's very unique in its own way.Also What we do in the shadows and Derry Girls are very funny in my opinion😊.

Recently revisited Die Hard, for the first time in almost 20 years. I never got the appeal before, it just didn't click for me .... but now at last I truly love the film and like many other people I'm going to make it a Xmas tradition.
I've also fallen back onto comfort food in the form of Robin Williams's "Live on Broadway" special. It still makes me laugh.

I loved The Queen’s Gambit overall, but I couldn’t disagree with you more on the first episode being the worst though. IMO, that origin episode did such an amazing job engrossing me into the story and fleshing out Beth Harmon’s character. I thought her early life in the orphanage was super compelling and beautifully told. The worst episode for me was by far the fifth one, where it felt a lot more like a rom-com than a drama/coming-of-age story most of the episodes were. Wasn’t too fond of the sixth episode either, but aside from that, I thought the limited series was fantastic.
Honestly I do agree that it was her origin story and I did find it suuuper interesting. Which is why I think it would work perfectly as a movie! I just thought the other episodes were much more entertaining but I should’ve mentioned how I still thought the first ep was fantastic and I still really liked it.
@@cinemoni I definitely see where you’re coming from. The first episode is definitely the most heavy in terms of drama and isn’t the most entertaining, but that’s what made me fall in love with the show because of how beautifully it fleshed out Beth Harmon’s character.
I started watching anime recently! Any recommendations? I love studio ghibli movies, and haikyuu is good too (the gameplay gets kind of boring though lol). KNY (Demon Slayer) is good as well if you haven't seen it. ATLA isn't an anime technically, but I 100% recommend you watch it. It's one of the best cartoons ever.
Kaleido Star. its low budget and kids like but I promise it is so beautiful and motivating!! Also Poco's Udon World is highly underrated and you'll surely cry. it is sooo adorable. the intro song is about mental health omg

I want to know your thoughts on Slumdog Millionaire! I also think it would be so cool if you did a full Latin American movies list. I double majored in Literature and Spanish in undergrad, and I got to watch a lot of Spanish language (usually Latin American) movies. I'd love some recommendations. My favs are La Teta Asustada (Peru), Nueve Reinas (Argentina), Memorias del Subdesarrollo (Cuba, I know you'd appreciate this with your film knowledge), XXY (Uruguay, nothing like it in any language), Machuca(Chile), Pieles (Spain), La Historia Oficial (Argentina), Amores Perros (creo que Mexico?), El Traductor (Cuba), Fresa y Chocolate (Cuba), Maria Llena de Gracia (Columbia?). If you have a library card or are still affiliated with school, you can get Kanopy for free, which is a streaming service that focuses on indie movies and more educational/documentary/true events. You can watch some of what I mentioned there
Also I LOVE ERASED idek I like fell in love with Satoru's voice actor...
I have been watching The Office, Perfect Blue & Your Name (thank you for that), Kiki's Delivery Service, and rewatching Naoki Urasawa's Monster. It is a masterpiece, one of the best and most underrated anime of all time. It's psychological, crime, thriller, drama, philosophical (MAJORLY philosophical), and slice of life. Slow moving but I think you would appreciate it.
