Alot of folks worrying about the bridge itself, but I'm more concerned about the lives that was lost. The bridge can be rebuild but you can't replace the lives that was lost

Amazing they were able to stop traffic moments before. Lives were saved in those moments. I am so devastated for those workers and their families.
make sure that the insurance company pays the accidental death INSURANCE in FULL to the families that had lost loved ones while working on the bridge. You know how these companies are when something happens and its not listed in the terms or coverage!

I really wish that could interview the people who crossed the bridge seconds before the crash...that should have a great impact on their lives...they were given a second chance to appreciate life more..and prayers for those who didn't make it....
Or to interview that FIRST CAR that was stopped from going over the bridge ... he gets out of his car . pissed off because those dam pothole guys have blocked the road again instead of doing one side at a time .... and then the bridges drops in front of him.

This same ship was sited for issues as recently as June 2023. Families should be suing everyone involved in making a decision to put it back out in the water.
I have a friend who lives in Baltimore and I said a prayer for him and the city and the family and friends of those affected by the tragedy. My heart aches for everyone.

If you look carefully, you can see two lanes of roadway lying neatly intact across the bow of the boat, the top laced with bridge scaffolding. What a sight to behold...
It’s tragic that people are crying over the loss of the bridge and not the lives that were lost. I’ll never understand how people can think this way. That bridge can be built back and look exactly the same but those people that died can’t ever be brought back to life.

It reminds me of the condominium collapse in FL not that long ago. The first responders had a difficult time processing what they were seeing. The loss of life was great, the rescues, miracles.
This is heartbreaking. I don't know if I will ever be afraid of going on bridges, I hope the Bay Bridge doesn't go through that same fate!
What I don't understand is why these pilings the bridge rests on are not protected against this type of collision. So many modern bridges have sacrificial perimeters surrounding the pilings. One would have thought this would be considered mandatory in such a busy shipping port.
I feel so bad for those workers that went to make money overnight :( and lost their lives . I also feel bad for everyone else that drowned :( and also the people on the ship that didn’t mean to crash into the bridge and now most likely feel the guilt heavy on their shoulders such a traumatic event

A unexpected tragedy happen in the early hours, lost lives, saved lives, the may day callers, the fast respond of officials to stop this tragedy from being worst than it could have been, to a community that awakened to a devastated tragic accident and the ship crew under the bridge in that awful moment of realization. Can anyone ask why, if they had warning, didn't somebody get the construction workers off the bridge? Don't they have cell phones? Couldn't someone call them? Why didn't that happen? Why is nobody asking about that?
It’s sounds like there wasn’t much time and I’m guessing multiple calls would have needed to be made to find out what company was on the bridge, who was on shift etc. It was after 1:30am so who knows if the person who owned the company was immediately available etc.
It’s such an unfortunate, unexpected event. Prayers to the relatives of the crew members.

stopping new drivers from entering the bridge is different than rallying workers about midway through a 1.6 mile bridge to enter their vehicles and escape. they were barely in time to stop regular drivers
That's probably what happened. Also if the state troopers had driven through the bridge to warn them off, they'd be dead by now too.
You answer is in your question...if they had time ...... if they had time to remove the people from the lower floors of 9/11 ...why didn't they remove the people from the 55th floor ? ...... because .....they didn't have time.

A steel bridge that is a fracture critical design that doesn’t have significant pile protection will catastrophically fail by removing just one of the piles holding up the steel bridge.
ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE for NOT having massive pile protection in place after similar circumstances of hitting and removing just one pile destroyed the Florida Sunshine Bridge.
I remember that well and studied the failure in my College engineering classes.

1:30am on the job filling pot holes... to repair the bridge. I heard 2 men found in their truck. I feel like there should have been a loud and clear warning. The power was out on the ship, okay, but no type of manual back up for warning???

I did work for Maryland Ezpass all those bridges,I service making sure they hade their device and loaded with payments to be able to communicate daily. This is sad prayers for everyone.

6:31 why did the ship turn right to the concrete bridge plyon support hitting it ? the ship should be in the middle of the 2 supports and is wide enough to be on center....there's plenty of room to the ships left and yet it clearly turned right to hit it ? when you drive a car on the highway you always maintain to be in the middle of your lane not extreme right nor left of the lane your on. the ship was clearly on its extreme right not between the bridge support why ? and why is the fed not the ships owner[ships insurance] paying to rebuild the bridge ?

Traffic you just lower the toll arms probably. Workers would need a phone on them & hope they hear ir. And even then idk if they’d be able to make it off in time

Why did the ship NOT play a loud horn to warn those on the bridge?
The video showed two vehicles two minutes barely missed the collision.

It lost power and went dark. Just before the collision the light came back.

This is not the Bay Bridge, which is over the Chesapeake Bay. This is the Key Bridge over the Patapsco River which is the basis of the Baltimore harbor. Francis Scott Key bridge, named after the author of the Star Spangled Banner, which was written in the Baltimore harbor at very nearby Fort McHenry during the war of 1812.
Suppose have harbor navigator officer when ships coming in and out?
Nothing can be done when a megaton ship loses power and plows through with no steering.
Did the construction workers not have a radio? In the same way the mayday call closed the tolls a radio call to those men to get off ASAP would have possibly saved them.
The ships insurance carrier needs to pay the full rebuild cost of the bridge, Not the fed government

The PILOT was a local.He is there, by law, to AVOID these kinds of things.

It was a sudden mechanical failure, which I would imagine is beyond the pilot's control

And what would a GOOD Pilot give orders? -drop anchors- when there is a -sudden- power failure. It will not stop the ship immideately.But slow it down.And when the anchors are downed on the right side of the ship,it will turn into the anchors.meaning in this case,away from the pylons. BUT it needs a Pilot who can act quickly and crew that can execute these orders even faster.Though what surprises me even more, to tugs for a ship of this seize? at least until it has left the inlet and reached the safety of the open sea?

Far to much is being made of the fact that the Captain of the ship is from the Ukraine.
It is the helmsman who is steering the ship.
And i dont think he will take orders from the captain,who will override the orders from the Pilot. Telling him -ram the bridge -.

Really? two large heavy duty tug boats on each side of every ship every time a ship goes anywhere it might cause damage? Once that ship lost power no tug boat would have had time to do anything.
Why 6 people?
They were a road crew fixing potholes on the bridge. It's typical to work during the night when traffic is lighter.
