    Thank you for this video...Great information and great presentation! I have been wanting this camera for a little while now and have been saving my pennies, not quite there yet! I have also been feeling that it just might be a little too much camera for me, although, it would be THE camera and probably for a very long time so I would have time to learn all about it. Seeing that little sneak peek of your book at the end, has made all that nervousness go away! It looks wonderful with tons of information and graphics -- I need it all to learn new things. I will definitely be checking out your website...right now, as a matter of fact! Thank you and well done!!

    In response to the question about wireless flash, there is no built-in support for wireless flash with any of the 3 Sony RX100 models. Only the RX100 II has a hot shoe, into which you can insert a radio transmitter to trigger an external flash. All of these cameras have a built-in flash unit, so you can trigger an external flash using an optical slave.

    @Alex White you link to the Photographer's Guide to the Sony RX100 III (paperback): goes to the wrong book. It goes to the RX10 guide. Because of Sony's numbering system it's easy for people to mistake that and get a book for the wrong camera if they don't notice.

      BTW, Alex, watched this again. Hate to spend money on batteries. So I opted for an Anker storage solution of 10000 mah. So now I just plug the camera into that and I get a charged battery WHILE I'm shooting. And it's nice for messing with time lapse where the battery would run down. In effect it's like carrying about 8 batteries around with me. Just a thought..for book 2.

    • @alexswhite

  • @GruppoCampanaridiArrone

    Is it possible to connect the camera to a zoom lens thanks to an adapter? in case what could be the compatible lenses?

    • @alexswhite
      @alexswhite  Před 4 lety

      I'm not sure what you mean by that question. The camera has a zoom lens built into it, so it does not need to connect to a zoom lens. You can get a filter adapter that lets you attach a supplementary lens, but I don't recommend doing that, because the adapter is not strong and adding another lens would put a strain on the camera's lens. You can attach the camera to a telescope using an adapter if you are very careful. Any standard telescope eyepiece will work for that purpose.

  • @GruppoCampanaridiArrone

    Is there an accessory, an adapter, to connect an external microphone such as the h2n zoom to the machine?

    • @alexswhite
      @alexswhite  Před 4 lety

      There is no way to make a microphone connect electronically to the camera as far as I know, though you can attach an external microphone and sync the audio to the video using software. Here is a post that shows a way to attach a Zoom recorder to the camera: www.dpreview.com/forums/post/53851448.

    Alex thank you for your depth review of the RX100m3 I was thinking of getting a nex 5r or a hx 400v. I would to get a 100m but money is a factor only if I can find a used one at a good price. Please let me know what you think of the other 2 cameras. I could some help. Thank you.

    • @alexswhite
      @alexswhite  Před 9 lety

      Bruce Cuff Hello, Bruce -- I'll give you my thoughts, though I have to point out that I have not worked with either of the other 2 models -- I have only read about them. In my opinion, the choice boils down to your own needs and preferences. The HX 400V is a fine camera with a very long zoom range and a larger body than the others, but with a small sensor. It would be an excellent choice for casual wildlife and sports photography, and general use on vacations, etc. The Nex 5r, of course, takes interchangeable lenses and has a larger sensor that will yield excellent large-sized prints and good defocused backgrounds. But, if you want a camera that combines some of the best features and images available in a very small package, which you can always carry with you easily, I would opt for the RX100. It really is an excellent choice, if you can live without the longer zoom.

      Bruce Cuff Hi, Bruce -- I don't know that much about the Nex 5r, never having used one. There is a good book about it by Gary Friedman, which has excellent information. Here is a link: www.amazon.com//dp/B00C8VW5WA/. That book should have good information about which lenses are best. I hope that is helpful.

    • @alexswhite
      @alexswhite  Před 5 lety

      I haven't done that myself, but from what I've read, it's not too hard to remove. People have said they start by trying to peel it slowly from one side. You may have to use dental floss or something similar to get a space underneath the grip to start peeling slowly. If there is residue left over, you might use a warm, moist cloth to remove the residue.

    Hi there - I'd like to use my RX100 M3 and mount to my telescope eye piece. Which pieces do I need to buy? I wasn't sure if I need that first piece that you connected a filter too or not.

    • @alexswhite
      @alexswhite  Před rokem

      You need to get a filter adapter that attaches to the front of the lens and allows the use of 49mm filters or other accessories. Then, what I did was purchase a 49mm Digi-Kit from telescopeadapters.com. Once you attach the filter adapter and the Digi-Kit items to the camera, you can attach the camera to a standard telescope eyepiece. You have to be careful, because the connection between the camera and the telescope will be somewhat delicate, but you can get good results.

If you use the Sony or similar filter adapter you would have to be careful, because that adapter doesn't support a lot of weight. I saw this light that might be a possibility: www.newworldvideodirect.com/productdetail.asp?productid=594885. @@alexswhite wow…how challenging is it to sync the audio perfectly? Seems like a pain in the but especially if you’re cutting a lot of things and putting it all together in like a vlog

      @@littlenel17 I haven't done this myself recently, but when I did it a few years ago with Adobe Premiere Pro, it was very easy and quick. If I recall correctly, you would select both audio tracks, right-click, and select a command such as Synchronize Audio. There undoubtedly is a similar procedure in other software packages. If you have multiple video and audio files, that would take more time, but if you have just one long video file and a corresponding file of external audio, you could sync the audio tracks before you start cutting together the various components of your finished product. There probably are tutorials on this on CZcams.

      @@alexswhite one more question Alex. I was fooling around with my Mark 3 today. I noticed that when i pop the view finder and pull it out the camera wont switch to viewfinder mode. I look through the viewfinder and its just all black. I saw somewhere that maybe the sensor had some dust. I cleaned it and nothing happened. Also, the viewfinder setting is on.

      @@littlenel17 I haven't had personal experience with this issue, but there is some information on it to be found through a search. Here is one thread that looks like it might be helpful: www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4234935.
