It is an attack helicopter with no intended secondary transport capability, better optimized than the Mil Mi-24 gunship for the role. It carries a single gun in an undernose barbette, plus external loads carried on pylons beneath stub wings.

I did not know Russia was still manufacturing the Mi-28 (or the Mi-35!), this is really amazing. I thought their focus was the Ka-52 for military attack helicopters? The flexible manufacturing with CNC equipment is very impressive, it suits itself to modern lower-volume fabrication rather than the WW2 style, high-volume hard tooling manufacturing. As a retired manufacturing engineer I am very impressed.
you probably don’t know that the mi-28 and ka-52 began to be produced at about the same time at the end of the 90s, and the mi-35 is a completely different helicopter, this is a further development of the mi-24.
@@user-dx1pe2dd5q Actually, I did know that. My real interest in the manufacturing processes, I just retired from 46 years in automotive manufacturing in both high and low volume models. I like what I see in this video.
hmmmm can u tell how these big projects are executed ? i mean first they had to design helicopter in cad software or on paper ? also if am not wrong this helicopter would be having thousands of individual parts , so am curious about design process.

Indeed, Russia seems to excel these days in flexible manufacturing-rather than the old days when they focused on high-volume, hard tools. As a retired manufacturing engineer, this is really interesting to me. Peace.

So the blade has a titanium sheath, fascinating. The quality that goes into each aircraft is mind boggling. In the special operation they have radar domes on the top of the rotary mount in a spherical shape.

As I understand it, they showed a piece of armor the same as the cockpit armored capsule. The Russians also introduced a pilot bailout system. The blades are pre-fired to the sides and the pilots are ejected. I have never met such a thing. More than reasonable and just brilliantly thought out.
@@giggling_boatswain the ejection system is present only on the Ka-52, the Mi-28 only has the opportunity to jump out of the cockpit itself. But it is more heavily armored than the Ka-52.

During the fighting in Iraq it was reported that in the sand filled environment, Main Rotor Blade life was 4 hours!
Russian military assets sre designed not only to operate reliably in extreme conditions, but able to be serviced, rearmed/refueled and to survive such conditions as a matter of course.
I'm sure the US doesn't laugh about this chopper like we do on Russian cars!!!

Not only can they be used to kill the enemy, but if necessary they can be sacrificed and rammed. why would you be surprised, there is absolutely nothing innovative there, everyone else is already making more advanced stuff, this is 1980ties, 1990ties at best, what is even better, all the high tech manufacturing and inspection equipment, that is all western made, and some Japanese
all the interesting stuff is in electronics these days anyway, not in things they showed here
and the cardboard on top of the sanding area walls was really high tech, also kids ruining this lungs breathing all that polymer dust while sanding with no masks
