That Magneto speech is the stuff of legends.
âDonât make me let you downâ is very good writing.
The number of straight bars in this series is so good. Some of have called it cringe and forced but I loved it. If you can get one line that conveys and encapsulates a moment then thatâs better than random dialogue
@@Knightowl1980 It feels true to the writing of Chris Claremont, the man who made the X-Men into the huge success it became. His writing wasnât subtle, but I remember it forty years later.
@@Knightowl1980 People who don't like it forget who Magneto is.
Absolutely epic. This actor is amazing, they all are.
You will absolutely bawl your eyes out as this show goes on.
Magneto's speech is top tier. "It does not ask you to love my kind as your own. But merely to accept that this is a shared world.... and that my people.... have the right to live in it."
It works so well because it's still so relevant.
Just as his speech goes, it may always be relevant because it's History's sad song. "We sing this song to one another. The oppressed become oppressors..."
to call this show a "Tear jerker" would be like calling the Amazon River "Kinda wet" đ
"Dont make me let you down"
Is the best line ever đ
Double entendre
"Do not make me let you down"
GOD, THE WRITING IN THIS SHOW!!!!
The tears from Magento's face while overwhelmed with vengeance and anger. Always gets me.
"Do not make me let you down." Magneto is absolutely brilliant.
Forget being the Master of Magnetism, Magneto is clearly the Master of Monologues.
He's had decades to practice.
"Call me Toastneto and raise me up!"
Magneto in this series is the ultimate embodiment of "you may not agree with him, but you can't say he's wrong".
Just based on your thoughts before and after the episode - and without spoiling anything specific whatsoever - you are 100% on this show's wavelength, and you're going to LOVE the rest of the season.
In a "thank you may I have another?" kind of way. đ¤Łđ
Donât worry about not knowing things. At one level, the show is written like a shorthand for mega fans who have read the comics, so lots of obvious Easter eggs to things in the comics are portrayed.
On the other hand, the show doesnât need you to know any of that stuff, itâll all get explained in the show itself. It strikes really good balance
All of Scott's and Jean's children are omega level. They have no chill.
Mutant powers typically don't manifest until puberty so the baby wouldn't exhibit any abilities.
I wasnât sure what happened when two mutants had a baby
@@funnylilgalreacts The rules are retconned a lot. But usually it's driven by the male, and when they reach puberty. But you'll see a bajillion exceptions lol
But also sometimes babies are born mutant. Like Nightcrawler. It's not exactly consistent
â@@macfineDifferent types of mutations manifest differently, like hair, or skin and eye color.
In the early comics mutations spiked in the teenage years because the comic was aimed at teenagers as its audience. It was YA fiction before the term existed.
â@@johnniequinn3215yes that is usually the case, but it's not the rule. There are exceptions.
Marvel Studios cooked HARD with X-Men 97 in more ways than one.
They knew they had to represent with X-Men
I really love how Morph is the ultimate Cameo charachter and the writers can have him turn into whatever cool mutant they want from the absolutely massive X-men roster at any time.
Also Logan's reaction to Jean going into labor might be the most Logan thing he has ever done.
I love that he's ready to take on bad guys, but not Jean going into labor
I'm kinda a little bit disappointed about that, that the writers only use him as a "cameo character". In the comics, he can moprh into anything he can think of, not only in people (like the T-1000 in Terminator 2) and he his much funnier.
Morph isn't a cameo character, he's a tribute character. The majority of the characters he turns into, their voice actor passed away
One thing to keep in mind is that X-Men animated tends to borrow, combine, and streamline storylines from different eras of X-Men and its spin-offs spanning the last 40 years. So when you say "did this happen in the comics?" the answer is usually "yes, but not really like that."
Yeah, in the comics, if I remember correctly, Rogue and Magneto dating took place after events that were actually kind of adapted in the finale.
Magneto gets ALL the best lines.
Now nowâŚGambit does get a really good oneâŚ
magneto and nightcrawler are always dropping absolute bars
The rogue and magneto thing isnât talked about in any of the movies or shows, they somewhat had a thing in like the 80âs or 90âs comics.
This show doesnât expect you to watch/know anything before really, they explain everything pretty well donât worry!
It did happen briefly, or at least implied as it was a kid's show, in the old show during the Savage Lands arc.
â@@AngelWolf12They had something in the Savage Land in Season 2? I can't remember that, that this was already made for the 90s show. In the comics, yes, there was a Savage Land Story, in that Magneto and Rogue had a short romance - this was before Gambit was introduced in the comics.
Then there was a second time in the main universe, where Rogue and "Magneto" where a thing. During the 90s, when Magneto had lost his memories and called himself Joseph, Rogue brought him to the X-Men. She and Gambit had some trust issues and that time, because the X-Men learned about Gambit's involvement in the Mutant Massacre, so Rogue couldn't trust him completely at that time.
And in 2 different alternate universes (in Age of Apocalspe and Age of X) Rogue and Magneto where married.
They continually go back to the Magneto/Rogue thing in the comics. There was also Age of Apocalypse where they are married with a kid. There was also her time with Joseph.
@@jinxie712 Yeah, I mentioned the Age of Apocalypse, but in the Marvel Prime universe, I just remember the Savage Land romance and the flirting with Joseph, but beyond that? I didn't read the recent X-Men comics (I stopped about 10 years ago), except for House of X/House of Power and about the 10 following issues of each series and the Gambit/Rogue Wedding.
In two comic timelines Magneto and Rogue are married with a son.
Glad that this episode is brought to us by the letter "M" and by the number "97"...
In the comics, Rogue and Magento were an item together.
What youâre seeing is not ânewâ or just âmade up.â
Youâve just never heard of it due to them never clarifying beforehand. But yes, they were together at some point.
Angela should spend the first few minutes of every video guessing who is Mystique đ
Nooooooo why would you say this TO ME?! đđđ
@@funnylilgalreacts It's easy, the answer is generally something like this, "Raven DarkhĂślme? Rogue's 'mother'? Charles' adopted sister? Jennifer Lawrence? Nightcrawler's mother? Magneto's lover? Rebecca Romijin? Logan's lover? Nightcrawler's father? Keyser SĂśze? The janitor? Darth Vader? Doctor Who? Dead this whole time?"
@@crazitalk Bo Burnham? "Can I interest you in everyone all of the time? A little bit of everyone all of the time? Mystique is a shapeshifter and always on your mind, a little bit of everyone all of the time."
What a Master Class in writing and character development. The MCU should take note.
1. "X-Men (1992)" and "X-Men '97" are a continuous story, with '97 picking up 6-12 months after the series finale of '92.
2. Bishop was a recurring guest star in "X-Men '92" and had long hair. He's also featured in "X-Men: Days of Future Past" in the Fox Universe, where Kitty Pryde (Shadowcat) sends him back in time several hours to a couple days to warn of the Sentinels' arrival.
3. The Fox X-Men movies, while very good, differ in several ways from the comics. This is neither good nor bad, it just is. The stories in '92 and '97 are closer to the original comics. Many storylines in both '92 and '97 are inspired by the comics, especially from the '80s and '90s. For example:
a. Raven Darkholme (Mystique) is Kurt Wagner's (Nightcrawler) mother. This has since been retconned to have her be his father.
b. Rogue was initially introduced as a villain fighting the Avengers. As I recall, she was a member of the "Brotherhood of Evil Mutants" at the time.
c. The original Uncanny X-Men team in the comics (1963) consisted of Scott Summers (Cyclops), Jean Grey (Marvel Girl), Henry "Hank" McCoy (Beast), Warren Worthington III (Angel), Bobby Drake (Iceman), and Professor Xavier.
4. The following from this episode are all things that were telegraphed from the comics: Magneto's costume change, Rogue's history with Magneto, Storm losing her powers, the birth of Nathan Summers, and the second Jean Grey.
5. Tissues will absolutely be required for the upcoming episodes.
*Spoiler Alert: Finale of "X-Men '92" - "Graduation Day" and the fate of Charles Xavier:
6. At a press conference, Henry Gyrich pushes a 'Mutant Containment Bill' and shoots Professor X with an energy disruptor, putting him in a coma. The X-Men struggle to find help, contacting Moira MacTaggert and considering Xavier's interstellar soulmate, Lilandra, Empress of the Shi'ar, but they can't reach her. Mutant uprisings spread, and Magneto is chosen to lead the mutants. After a fight, Magneto helps the X-Men contact Lilandra by supercharging Xavier's mental link with her. Lilandra takes Xavier for Shi'ar care, leaving the X-Men and Magneto on Earth, with the expectation that Xavier will never return.
I watched this multiple times by now and Wolverine's "Who, Apocalypse" followed by "Oh, crap" always gets me đ
I love how regardless of their differences of opinion, magneto was really hurt by what they did to storm! Really showed his good side
The writing is so incredible, the writers really outdid themselves with this series.
There's a reactor called Storm Akima reboot and her guest reactor or cohost said her daughter was weeping at this, and kept asking her if Storm would be okay. She (as a comic fan would only expect Storm to pull through.) She told her daughter not to worry, she'll be okay.
Hey since you've mentioned fallout shelter a few times, I just wanted to say if you wanted to know, that dramatic dun dun dun sound that happens randomly is a hidden npc in a trenchcoat called the mysterious stranger that you can click on but only for a bit over ten seconds. When you do he drops caps and disappears. Another musical note indicates he's left.
The glasses đ¤đťđ¤đťđ¤đť
I don't think that Magneto is a trickster villain, but one that humanity prove him right about the dream of coexistence. They will further explore Magneto/Rogue, and keep that ominous premonition in mind. This is such an incredible season of television, in general, with this sequel series to that amazing 90s series that is so beloved.
The writing in this show is probably one of the best that I've seen in an Marvel audiovisual product. Magneto has some incredible lines during the series.
"I need more! MORE!" Yeah, that was my refrain every week when I watched this amazing season.
When the two episode premiere happened after the first episode I was like wow thats really good. The 2nd episode just absolutely blew my mind. To have that epic a climax with Magneto and the UN within 1hr of tv was masterful. There are shows that spend entire seasons reaching for those heights only to fall short and its only a taste. The season is unbelievably good. Small nitpicks here and there but overall just incredible.
THE WRITING IN THIS SHOW!!!
There's something so horrific about taking someone's inborn lifelong talent. Blinding a painter. Breaking the fingers of a pianist. Deafening a musician. As a punishment, it's horrific. As something inflicted out of jealousy and hate...just next level.
*I love the Magneto's speech in this episode.*
Magneto is legitimately trying to do the right thing.
For now.
The difficult part is that "the right thing" is only a matter of perspective AND magnitude.
At the end when you talked about what you expected Scott and Jean's baby's birth to be like, I felt like you were describing Homelander being born lmao
Thatâs 100% what I was envisioning
Haha, thought the same now when it came to the point where Rogue had to play the doctor since the impression of "The Boys" s4e04 was so fresh in my brain.
I really need a "Magneto was right" t-shirt. I always loved that it was actually an artefact in the game "Marvel Heroes", and i still miss that game đ˘đ
I can't put into words how much I love that you're reacting to this
Magneto wearing his old school outfit
Magneto and Rogue had a thing for awhile in the comics, so that is what they were referring to. It happened when they were stranded together in a primitive jungle called the savage land
It takes a powerful person to show mercy, especially to your enemies.
Yes, Rogue and Magneto were a thing in the comics for a time. The two Jean's are also a BIG part of the comics and continue to be relevant to this day and age. You're going to love what is to come!
Magnetoâs powerful speech echoes of a statement that has been said numerous times in recent history:
âBe glad we want equality, and not revenge.â
Magneto is my favorite character in this whole season, with Rogue right there too. Loved this episode, and Magneto's speech gave me chills.
Asteroid M is a base that Magneto used in the comics in a few different versions, and in the original animated series as a âsafe havenâ for mutants.
I want to see more FLG dancing :) She was on that beat of the theme :)
"Don't make me let you down" is the last thing you want to hear a couple of thousand feet above ground đ
Shoutouts to My Storyboard Teacher, Chase Conley for directing this. A lot of good friends touched a lot of these scenes and the love really shines through
The writers went hard with this series.
Here's a little catch-up. The comics Rogue is quite different from the movie Rogue. In the comics, Rogue was adopted and raised by Mystique, who is the parent of Nightcrawler, making them siblings. Also, the relationship between Rogue and Magneto is new to us, never having been mentioned in the show.
I believed Magneto when he first arrived. Charles and Erik may have fought each other in the past, but every version of the X-Men you can tell they were friends once. Their time in the Savage Lands from the 90s series showed how close they were. Even stripped of their powers they risked their lives for each other. If anything could get Magneto to change, then it would be Charles's death.
This revival series is nuclear level hot. Lots of gasp worthy moments for sure.
This series was so incredibly good, beyond the nostalgia, the amount of heart in the writing, itâs just cathartically satisfying, even when breaking our hearts. I wish the MCU had this level of storytelling. It would be much better for it.
20:37 literally us watching when this was coming out weekly đ
This is such an amazing show, and the speeches are 100% on point and beautifully written, and you've only just started!
I was so excited to see your reaction to Magneto's speech in this episode, its so masterfully written and so eloquently executed, you cant help but feel moved by his words. You're going to enjoy this series so much, I just KNOW it! Cant wait to see you experiance the rest of this!
Speaking of experiance, if you're really interested in knowing some of the more important plot points of the original series from the 90's, Screencrush has an excellent video that tells you everything you need to know before '97 begins. Highly recommend it, very entertaining and a great way to be caught up if you're not entirely invested in watching the whole original show.
Thank you for what you do, I look forward to your videos every day ^-^ have a good one and I hope something brings you great joy in the coming day!
The Rogue/Magneto thing was not introduced in the X-Men Animated Series, and is not something the average viewer would know, so don't feel left out and just treat it as new information. It is instead referring to a time they spent together in the comics, and will be explored more in the show going forward.
They had a bit together when in the Savage land together.
everytime magneto speaks it is just epic oneliners :D
Excited for this reaction, such a good show!
Magneto and Rogue have a history in the comics. And Rogue was originally a villain. She drained out Captain Marvel's power, and that's why she flies and has super strength.
This show is soooooooo good itâs brought me to tears a few times đ˘đ
What do you think Logan told his auto insurance company?
Since theyâre X-Men, Iâd imagine they all have VERY comprehensive âmutant mishapâ coverage and Charlesâ estate pays some outrageous premiums.
13:27 Psylocke is mine favorite marvel superheroes & X-men character ever in my heart. Also she appears in X-Men: Apocalypse movie (2016)đ
As spectacular as this episode is, there is an upcoming episode that is among the best single episodes of a television series I've ever seen. The second it ends, you'll know which one I mean.
Omega Level Series.
Charles was playing 4D chess by making Magneto the leader of the X Men.
1) The X Men gets to keep a close watch over him
2) Magneto is guilt tripped into living up to Charles' legacy
3) Scott and Jean gets to live their own life
4) Magneto is better at keeping Logan in check than Scott ever could
Rouge and magneto met on savage land thatâs where they had their romance moment in comics
So excited you're watching this series. It's so good!!! Also Rogue and Magneto was a thing in comics but not really in the series previously.
In the comics Rogue and Magneto where stranded in the Savage lands and developed a romantic relationship but it was more of a fling that ended once she is reminded of his villainous side when he kills the leader of the inhabitants Zaladane. Their relationship is explored and expanded later in other alternate realities such as the Age of Apocalypse where Xavier died before forming the X-men and Apocalypse took over the world. In this realy they have a son name Charles.
Asteroid M was Magneto's original base when he was leading The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Things were a bit more... on the nose back then.
There's a lot of stuff in this season that comes straight from the books. They didn't go into Rogue and Magneto's relationship in the original cartoon so you can't be blamed for not recognizing it. Also mutants aren't always guaranteed to give birth to other mutants. Sabretooth and Mystique gave birth to a normal human.
I've seen it said already but the Rogue and Magneto stuff is very much a comic thing that they've bought into the show. There's actually a lot of comic stuff in this first season which I won't go into but very, very much appreciate as a comic book nerd. It's obvious that the writers are fans of the books just as much as they are the 90s cartoon
The dialogue in this show is rock solid. At certain points touches the truly special. But Magneto gets some of the best. This is my favorite super hero soap opera in ages. Asteroid M was featured in the original show run. It sort of became Magneto's own independent mutant nation. Of course things went all arch and became more an orbiting base for his mutant crew.
You are in for a rollarcoaster ride with this show.
It might be worth either straight up watching the XMen Animated Series (92-96) or finding a recap. You can see Charles and Magnus rekindled bromance and why Charles starts of 97 MIA. X-Men 97 picks up almost after the 92-96 animation!
Pay attention ti the intro every episode, theres always something different. And very interesting to watch. When Storm was frightened of lightning when before she could sense it or cause it, brought me to tears. Mutants usually get their powers at puberty, but some are born with physical differences. Image waiting to watch this week to week when it first came out. Buckle up buttercup it's gonna be a hell of a ride. Rogue and Magneto were a thing in the comics, you'll find out soon.
It happened years ago in the comics. Roll with it.
I loved the first episode but this episode made me understand that this was going to be the top tier of x men content outside of the comics. Get ready for the very best of X-Men
K, thing you need to know from the comics and tv show to be able to follow along with 97: When Rogue ran away from home, she was found by Mystique and joined the Brotherhood. It wasnât until she met Gambit that she joined the xmen. Once she was with the xmen, they found out that Nightcrawlerâs absentee mother is Mystique. The two see each other as siblings.
Also Gyrick is the leaders of the âFriends of Humanityâ, an anti-mutant militant vigilante group.
most mutants develop their powers at puberty, it's one of the many reasons people fear mutants. there are mutants that have killed people they love, their families, and even a whole town in one instance when their powers awaken. cyclops has to use ruby quarts glasses to hold back his power because of head trauma as a kid, he has no control over his powers. it's why he obsesses about leading, it's his need to "control" every other factor.
Me: Going to bed
YT Reccomend:: FLG / X-Men video.
..... New plan, lol.
In relation to your questions about the animated series: The old show did give us Asteroid M, Magneto building a base in orbit, because of course he did.
The old show did not give us Rogue/Magneto, though it did give us flashbacks reminding us who she was raised by/worked with before the X-Men.
And now I too have this glorious theme song stuck in my head. Time to go jam out to it.
I appreciate your reactions and vulnerability so much and wanted to say thank you :) Also, your dance moves are amazing with the intro music lol
Please never skip the intro; there are references related to the episodes.
The moment i heard that speech Magneto did in the atmosphere, i said this is a MASTERPIECE!
X-Men 97 is a amazing show and I have no doubt you will love it.
Asteroid M was supposed to be Magnetos mutant safe haven from humans in earth orbit, but was shot down in the end and seems to have fallen into the ocean.
I was really into xmen comics and this show as a kid in elementary school. Magneto and Rogue was a thing back then, since only he could actually safely touch her because of *mumble* *mumble* electro *mumble*. As a fifth grader i was absolutely fascinated by the idea of them together.
I love how earnest and sincere this show is, after a decade of MCU jokey one liners. Like, you could never have that magneto speech in a marvel movie these days without someone turning to camera and doing a "well THAT just happened" type bs.
Hey, it was one of those long days, but I loved your reaction as usual. Thank you.
This show is what it FEELS like to read a comic. It has so many great moments, both small and large, that are beautiful and powerful. Multiple speeches that are fundamental to emotional connection. The many important moments we get seeing how the X-Men were intended to represent all of the real-world minorities and how complex and different all of the viewpoints are. It's beautiful, and scary, and most importantly... Important. It's so *important* to see this world and all of it's peoples as one, and this show has done such a stellar job at making that point as necessary as they could make it
You didn't miss anything, the Rouge/Magneto relationship is from the comics - they will get more into it later.
One thing I love about this show is how at least once an episode there is an awesome shot or visual that looks like it would've been a comic book cover, "This issue the X-Men face . . . [ANTAGONIST]!"
Looking forward to your next . . REACTION!
rogue and magneto they had a thing in like the 80âs or 90âs comics but since then comics don't really talk about it this show is the first time in awhile they bring it up
CZcams algorithm just advertised this video to me. Subscribed to go on this ride of these episodes again with you! If you thought episode 2 was gut wrenching, just wait!
You get your mutant abilities usually when you hit puberty đđź
Love this adaptation to one of my favorite comic stories. Two Jeans?
The Rogue Magneto thing was more references to the comics where they had a thing, nothing from this series or the 90s one
Iâm so happy youâre watching this one because I think youâre gonna love it, based on other things Iâve seen you react to. Excellent writing throughout the show, and the animation was so crisp; I was shocked when this came out because I was expecting it to be very mid. Turned out to be my favorite thing this year so far!
Canât wait to watch this series with you, one of the best reactors out there! â¤ď¸
The opening credits changing doesnât end with just the name tags; there are new other scenes too, related in some way to the story of each episode.
If you think this episode is giving you a taste of the adventure to come⌠You arenât ready. Thatâs all I will say.
The thing is. Jean and Scott would need to have that conversation with their son anyways. Either he is different from everyone else and they have to explain that. Or he is gonna grow up surrounded by all those superheroes and have him wonder why he is different from them.
I swear this show is the best thing Marvel has done in a VERY long time. They got the X-Men back after the Fox merger and wasted ZERO time.
