  • In this video i show you how i cut up big logs like this red oak to be split into firewood. The log about 24" in diameter at the butt end, It is not the biggest log ever but it is bigger than "normal" processor firewood and it is the biggest seasoned piece that i had on hand. If you would like to see me cut and split larger logs like, maybe 30-40" in diameter let me know in the comments.

Looks like a good method for oversized logs.

Hi Jacob - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. You have honed your workflow to perfection using the equipment to hand. My only suggestion would be to use log tongs to move the logs to the splitter. Like most horizontal splitters, your bed is on the low side so tall guys like me would be crippled in an hour. I've had to raise my processor and vertical splitter so I can operate without bending at the waist, which in earlier years enabled me to do 8 hour shifts and process 180 cords a year.

That what I had started doing. But ever since I got my wood screw I haven’t had to slice a big log up like this again which is awesome

Great firewood videos. Really good. I have started making videos last couple months and yours are even better than mine in a lotta ways. Keep up the good work

Looks like a new use for a chainsaw, to prep a round for hand-splitting, to prep it for power-splitting. It is a 3-phase procedure that substitutes for not having a power lifter. With a powerlifter it would likely be a two-phase procedure with two-way splitting followed by six way splitting. Now you probably split with the big screw for phase #1.
