I know this movie is 5 years old but Thank You for making it. Saved my bacon when I had this thing on a magnet and I dropped it and it pulled my trigger spring off and little clip that holds the hammer bar. Played that part over & over til I got it done. Thank You.
Hey just wanted to say that if anyone was needing help getting the sear spring is because they are so much fun wait to put the mag release in until later and you can use the cavity from the release as a window right to the sear and sear spring to help line them up so you don't have to try and see things from the side....btw great video and is helping a rusty armorer get things put back together again for a bud.
Such a great vid. I have one of these in stainless and I had ZERO idea how friggen complicated it is. What an amazing design. I'm an aircraft mechanic and machinist and it would scare me to death taking this thing apart! Good thing you have the disassembly vid to go back to
What a fantastic video. I've been a subscriber for a few years but still nothing new from your channel. I hope you're OK and I just want you to know that your videos are excellent quality and very helpful. I sure hope you're OK and able to overcome whatever it is that is keeping you from posting here or elsewhere. For those wondering, my brand new PT92 has a bushing in the top grip hole on both sides and threaded into the frame for the bottom screw, just as in his used gun from 6 years ago. The bushing that AsburnArmorer thought might have been a repair appears to be by design; the bushing is what holds in place that safety spring that he had popped out.
Use a small piece if WIRE or fishing line to Pull on the trigger bar spring and other springs. I use a very thin wire like guitar wire about 10 inches long and then bend it in half. Then slip the bent end over your trigger bar spring and pull. The wire (two open ends) can be run up through difficult areas or the bent end can be used to loop over the end of springs. This makes it really easy to PULL springs that are hard to reach, instead of using dental too picks or other tools. I though about taking an old writing pen and slipping the wire up through the hole so you have a loop at one end through the pen tip hole. You could then tie off the two wire ends somehow. This would give you something to grip a little better. I just grab the wires (two loose ends)) with my fingers and loop the bent end over the springs and pull, but you have to have a good grip with your fingers on the wires. You could invent a handle a million different ways.
yeah. the US request for the safety starting with the S model was a major step in stupidity. Should have kept it as is. The similarity with this and the 1911 safety would make the training curve that much lower. Guessing they wanted the Walther style hammer block like the smith 39 had.
@@Daddy53751 I like the frame safety, too. It's probably just because it's what I'm used to in 1911s and other guns I've owned; there may be no technical reason to support it. But now it occurs to me, reading up on trigger pull problems on the PT92, that the change to the frame might have been only to support the infamous Taurus locking mechanism that we all hate so much - really all of us, because I have never heard anyone say differently.
That spring for the safety decocker in the handle is supposed to be held in place with the nutsert and screw that the previous owner put on the right hand side grip upper screw hole by mistake. The nutsert has a flat washer that threads down flush and firmly to hold the spring then the left hand upper grip screw threads into that. It’s a different screw set up than the other three. I realized how this set up worked when putting on new hogue grips. Mine was kinda stuck and took me a few to figure out. It does add a little surety to the mechanism when flicking on/off. Also when being fired it helps it from moving accidentally under extreme force. Great video👍👍👍
All I wanted to know was how to reverse the mag release and after watching you remove that Bad shaft I decided to leave it alone, it's actually easier using my trigger finger. Thanks, excellent How To video.
I was having fail to fire issues with my PT92. Thanks to you I properly disassembled the firearm and found metal burrs at the area in which the sear pivots on its pin. I filed down the burrs and now no I have no more issues. I'm sure you figured it out by now but the spring you are playing around with at the end of the video is held in place by the different screw that holds the handle grips on. You mentioned in the beginning of the video someone had replaced the screw with a different one. This is actually the correct screw. So therefore the screw with the skinny threads threads into that screw. Screw in a screw if you will. Thanks again for the great detailed video!
I'm really glad you left this comment and I hope everyone sees it. You caught something critical here. Because the previous owner had moved the screw within a screw to the wrong side of the gun, it's purpose was completely evading me. That is especially embarrassing because I have worked on a dozen of these in the past and for some reason it just wasn't clicking when I made the video. You are absolutely right. The funky screw within a screw (bushing) is an original part and belongs on the left side of the gun in the top position where it would hold that spring in place. This is also the reason that you see me struggling with the grips in general because they only fit right if that screw and its bushing are in the right place. The way you see it in the video is causing damage to both grips (as well as failing to hold the screw in place!) It was late at night and it was driving me crazy, so I just threw in the towel...a bad habit that I occasionally indulge in when working on my own guns. I'm recording more this weekend and will do a short on the correct assembly of the grips. Thanks again for pointing this out!
You helped me so much!!! A big, big "Thank You"!!! (36:45) The spring felt out as I cleaned my PT 92 and I didn't knew how the Spring goes in again!!! Also the spring on the other side. (2:03:50) Cheers from munich/Germany, Tommy
Literally had the same problem and went to the range without fixing it and embarrassed myself cause it only let off one or two rounds at a time. Now I gotta go back and see if it fixed my issue. 🤦🏽♂️
I reassembled a Taurus pt911 thanks to this vid. some friend of a friends gun in pieces. I could not figure how to put trigger spring in. decocker does not work but I think that's the reason someone took it apart. everything else works as it should. this comment is almost as long as the video. thanks a lot.
I'm pretty sure that all of them are supposed to have grip screw bushings. The top left one is the most important though. As you said, it retains the decocker spring which prevents it from leaving this atmosphere at mach 5 as seen here.
Really great video! I have an older 92 AF-D. The 92 you were disassembling in video is almost identical to mine. I noticed on my trigger bar there was no "notch" for the aft part of the trigger spring to rest in (just rests on top of pin from trigger bar). Only thing keeping it in is grip and right safety latch, which by the way there were a couple variations.
Hey man, just want to say, I appreciate the video, watching this and seeing a couple of the comments actually pointed me to an issue in my cleaning my 92af that I hadn't noticed. I picked up a spring kit from Wolff springs, but found a bunch of gunk where I hadn't even thought to look because of this video. My 92af is actually pre(post?) Decocker, I literally have safe or not, but because of the video, i found an issue in the sear and hammer spring area that could have been causing light strikes from the firing pin to fresh brass that I did not have when originally purchasing
Mag release gets stuck because the button that releases the mag turns a little bit and gets hung up on the frame. I was in my concealed carry class and my mag got stuck on me. Asked the gunsmith if they could figure out what was wrong with it and they were able to get the mag released but didn’t know how they did it. I hit the shooting range and mag got stuck again. Took it home and figured out that the button is threaded on to the opposite side of the button and just needs to be tightened so it doesn’t turn and hang up on frame. Hope this comment helps.

I was watching this video and handling a Taurus that I bought used a week ago. I cocked it and used the right side de-cocker which promptly sheared right off right next to the pin. I guess I'm sending this one in for warranty work.
Well at least they haven't discontinued the PT 92 line, unlike the PT 1911 in 9MM. You'll be looking at a lengthy time with Taurus USA but they ought to find out what is wrong
I know this was 6 years ago when yiu made this video but maybe you could answer this. I just noticed my pt92 making a rattling sound i dont remember it ever having before. I figured out it was the small lever that presses up on the firing pin safety button. It has no tention being applied to it accept accept when the trigger is fully pressed. Is it normally supposed to have that slop to it? Because i swear i could not hear it shake up and down before
HEADS UP!!! MAKE SURE THE HAMMER SEAR SPRING IS PUT IN THE PROPER WAY BECAUSE IF ITS NOT THERE WONT BE ENOUGH TENSION IN THE HAMMER SEAR AND YOU MIGHT HAVE FULLY AUTOMATIC OR BURST FIRE ACTION INTERMITTENTLY!!!
If I get the pt92 AF & AFS, would I be able to swap the slides? I like the two toned look, but don't want to compromise the functionality of the firearms. I don't see why it would be a problem, just wanting advise from someone with experience.
solo debes sujetar ese espring del seguro con el tornillo que corresponde a ese lado ,se llama buje de agarre y en vez de ser un tornillo regular se ensambla en dos partes , el tornillo esta en la parte superior del lado que no corresponde
Hello AshburnArmorer. At 2:45 in the video. I have a roll pin missing that I need to replace. Is the roll pin that goes in that dropping block holding the other pin in, is that pin 1/16" dia. by 3/8" length or 1/16" dia. by 1/4"? Thanks in advance for any information. Great video BTW.
I have a pt940 and the trigger doesn't return all the way and the right side safety/ decocker broke off. Is that bottom frame you worked on the same setup?

My Taurus grips are plastic, so they don't absorb odor / oils as much as wood does. If yours are plastic, just take them off and scrub them with soap and water. Be sure to get them perfectly dry before you put them back on.
Can you make a recommendation as to how to keep my grip bushing from rotating as I rotate the screw on my pt92 grip? I've tried blue locktite and it really isn't working. Thank you.
Informative, well done videos my friend, but I cringe a little bit when you tap out pins on that round block. Is it steel? Non-marring Gunsmith V-Blocks are around $20 at ebay, amazon, etc. Disregard if that block is actually a hard plastic. Thanks for all of the great disassembly videos!
My pt92 has a problem. About 50% of the time the hammer falls back forward with the slide and I have to cock the hammer back for single action. It’s not from a under powered round cause if I rack the slide hard it does the same thing. But if I rack it nicely the hammer stays back all the time. Any ideas. I’m just trying to avoid sending it back to Taurus if it’s just something simple like something I’m not cleaning or oiling well enough
That sounds bad. Hammer follow-down is often energetic enough to fire the next round. You can end up with a runaway gun if you are unlucky enough. There are several different problems that can cause this. The sear spring might be broken, weak, or out of place. The sear (or hammer where the sear engages it) could be worn or chipped. Something really weird could be going on with the decocker. Without tearing it all down it's not possible to know exactly what is going wrong here. If you don't want to try the full disassembly, definitely send it back to Taurus (or a competent local gunsmith) for repair. Whatever you do, please don't shoot it until it is fixed.
