Thanks for watching today and a big hug to you if you share this video with someone! - Hudba
🙄 comments feature glitched site-wide about 5 minutes after this video dropped AND I don’t know what has been going on with my Premiere lately but sorry about that hp graphic glitch lol it rendered in a new weird way every freakin time. I guess now you know my measurements 😂
I had you down as more a 60 HP guy than a 44
is this a good first-time synth for someone really focused on sound design and understanding how synthesis works?
would you ever consider grabbing all the behringer semi modulars and comparing them to their moog counterparts. In this case the closest comparison id like the see is the behri neutron vs the mavis especially because theyre one of the few hitting the same budget. Its not really the comparison that would be the best part but the inspiration of hearing the sounds YOU can get out of them.
@@floodgates1219 I'd say yeah, I don't own one so this is not firsthand knowledge but from what Andrew showed its a solid package that will let you explore tonality and patching quite a bit. The first limit you will run up against is the included cables so be prepared to buy yourself more patch and splitter cables and those awesome cables that have a second female right on top of the male ts that I can never seem to find. I have a Behringer Neutron that is a pretty similar box, and its nice to explore with but if you have a couple guitar pedals to add to the mix you expand your possibilities by an order of magnitude. Also Ableton Live lets me route my push2 midi into it via USB (so I've even got the best possible sequencer and an awesome interface) which the Mavis does not have. You seem to just want to explore sounds just like me but its an important note to make, unless you have a eurorack sequencer you are going to have to trigger every note yourself.
The Mavis is probably the best value Moog I've seen but you gotta remember they really are a premium brand, I would do a lot of shopping around before deciding on it. But in general, these semi-modular standalone synths are the perfect gateway into synthesizers, find whats right for you and make sure you actually have a way to play them (midi keyboard, or the USB route etc.) Personally I think you'd be really happy with it but over time you will start to wish you had more, and then you become a fellow modular addict😂
Thats why you should always watch the render before uploading to YT :P
Omg PLEASE do a whole video where you draw patch cards and make songs out of what you get. Those cards are a really awesome idea.
Yes plz
Yesss I second this
Thirded
Do it please!!
That Bad Snacks collab sounds incredibly promising
1:41 y’know, if anyone would unintentionally synthesize lifelike bubble sounds by complete accident, it would be Andrew. Seriously that belongs in like a sample pack or something.
Andrew, you are such an inspiration! Love to see you having fun while making music, through different genres and styles... it's almost poetic the way you marvel at the beauty of sounds!
Personally, playing with sounds like that is something that amazes me and makes me feel like a child everytime. When I watch your videos and I listen to your music I find that exact feeling and an exstraordinary energy. I've learnt a lot from you, but that inspiration and that energy are the things I am most grateful for. I still remember the first "musical challenges" on your channel... and now wow, you have a child, you've grown so much, and at the same time, well, "nothing" changed. I never comment, I'm a bit shy, but I really wanted to show you my appreciation. Thank you for everything!
Thank you so much, it means a lot to hear this! 💖
I recently bought one , and I really like it. I have used VSTs and Roland synthesizers, but this really gives you a chance to explore the world of modular subtractive synthesis without spending a lot of money. The magic really starts when you begin to add delay and reverb.
I swear to god, Andrew’s videos are the best on this platform, not only for music but for explaining how things work.
32 and 55 are relatively prime, so it takes 32*55=1760 steps to repeat. It's an easy trick to stretch out variation.
The common denominator
@13:32
Good know the distance from Andrew’s left ear to his speaker is 44HP and his shoulders are 60HP wide.
🙃🙃 the last couple Premiere updates have been traaaash
Andrew's production value just keep on getting better! Noticed the faster lens (giving it more bokeh) and the better sound quality. Brilliant content as always mate!
Not to mention the editing, with the red highlight box around the patch points being clipped around his finger as he pointed various ones out! Seriously impressive commitment and attention to detail!
you're not fooling anyone m8 you just wanted to show off your knowledge of fancy bokeh word and you were hoping for a cookie.
Andrew, I’m here to thank you. I recently got accepted into music production college and I think you served a big part in that.
Back in 2017/2018, when I just got started, you gave me good tips and tricks that still work nowadays. And not to mention that you have really inspired me to evolve from who I was. And that has happened.
I think I wouldn’t have dared auditioning if it wasn’t for your help.
I, again, want to thank you for the fun times throughout the years, I hope you can give many more of us this favor of letting our dreams come true.
Best of love,
- Matthijs
That’s wonderful to hear! All the best on your music journey!
@@andrewhuang Thank you!
That modular jam at about 9 minutes reminds me a lot of some Blanck Mass stuff. really really nice
Well now I need to check out Blanck Mass because that jam is sssssick.
@@kcorstel Yeah dude, go for it!
Amazing that Moog was able to release this whole big thing out of the blue
1:18 oh my god... the red rectangle goes UNDER his finger... damn, the details!
Holy crap Andrew, I LOVE that idea to use 32 steps on one sound and 55 on another to get a semi-repetitious jam going. Also your tone selection is wow 🤩 Really excited to get a Mavis for myself!
That jam was absolutely beautiful!
love that "controlled randomness" of the modular patch
Andrew out here giving away the secrets! I’m definitely trying that file naming strategy
I momentarily forgot this video was about the Moog Mavis after hearing the Bad Snacks collab! 😮 sounds beautiful already
10:40 when my Tinder date learns I'm a musician and asks what instrument I play.
Wow. Thank you for explaining the logic behind that melodic sequence! Really cool idea and sounds great.
i love these videos with just playing with synths and sound so much. they teach me so much in a fun way and they excite me to make music
People like you are the reason I have a modular synth addication. I just bought an intelejel case and can't wait to fill it with joy and chaos! The Mavis looks pretty sweet self-contained synth that plays well with others.
thank you so much for inspiering me like you do Andrew!
you have given me the drive to buy some modular synts my self and try to step more and more away from only using DAW's!
thanks for pushing me outta my comfort zone and learn more about how sound is created from scratch instead of only using samples!
really appreciate you and your channel!
Love from Norway
I love your ambient-ish modular jams so much!
Aaaaaww... That moog patch was sooo good 🖤
You amaze me again and again! That jam was absolutely out of this world! 🪐
Ah thank youuu I need to develop it
@@andrewhuang Totally beautiful landscape... eer WTF happened at 9:49LOL
I just recently got the Moog Grand Mother! It’s the best!
Man. I love your videos, content, production, editing....it's just fantastic.
The explanation of why folding was awesome! I have an iOS synth that has it. Now I'm going to use the oscope plugging and mold some funky baseline with oscillating harmonics from the folder.
Andrew. This is seriously amazing. Fun video to watch! The Mavis looks like it's a fun unit especially adding in the patching to the MSS.
Best description of wavefolding I’ve ever seen.
11 seconds ago. Never been so early!
Another information-packed nugget of goodness from you! You never disappoint.
It's always an Honor Andrew you are such an awesome person and Music Producer!
Physically interacting with how electronic music is produced looks so much more satisfying, the cost barrier would be worth jumping over someday
the performance segment was beautiful, can't be an Andrew Huang video without some of the best on the spot music!
That "performance"/patch is incredible. I'd absolutely listen to something like that while working/studying or even driving. Reminds me of Jon Hopkins for some reason.. Maybe his track C O S M?
This was really enjoyable to watch! Loved all the tunes we got to hear as well. I will get some physical stuff like this, one of these days!
love the drum style on all these wip's!
Great review and jams. Thank you. Looking forward to taking your course when I have some time set aside!
Love Moog and their fun packaging. Definitely going to play around with this. Nice work!
Andrew, Thank you for making excellent content. I've been learning a lot from your videos. I appreciate all your efforts.
Thank you for explaining how folding works!
my absolute favourite CZcams -er thank you so much .
Chanel
The current tracks you're working on have a deep space vibe that remind me of some great Space Dimension Controller releases. Like maybe his best known - 'The Love Quadrant', and one of my favourites 'Kaleidoscopic Ecstasy' from the Temporary Thrillz EP (R&S records, 2010).
Not familiar, I’ll have to check it out!
Dude these songs are so good! Classic vibes
Always especially love your moog video songs!
Those tracks you used examples where so good, yet again!
As always a super fun review. I may not be able to get any hardware synths anytime soon but I always come back to a lot of your reviews since they're so damn fun and make me want to try one one day!
Would love to see a "behind the scenes" of the Andrew Huang channel some time. Would be really interesting to see what goes into your youtube productions. Love your work
I think the most apt way of putting what I want to say is "Andrew!! your are absolutely amazing. Everything from you, your music, your ever increasing video production quality, the teeni-tiny arps, the coming collab." Fucking love it!! You've taught me & many like me more than you realize.
Love you brother!! ❤ :)
fun fact: with 44 HP, Mavis seems to be made to fit in a 104 HP case together with one of the "bigger" Moog semi-modulars (which are all 60 HP). Also it having the patchpoints on the other side than the M32, DFAM or Subharmonicon seems to support that idea (since you can patch easily, without the cables getting in front to the controls).
Wow, workflow organization ideas are neat!
looks like an evolution from the werkstatt!
Andrew huang always makes me so jealous with all those equipment and crazy sounds he makes with them!
DAT Sheeeit SOUNDS GOOOOOOOD>>>>>sweet
WOW! Your music is gorgeous. I just got the Mavis. And it sounds really great. I just need to learn some patching. Thanks for this. Your videos are really helpful, and entertaining.
love this
Amazing work!! You’re musicianship and technical understanding is truly fantastic!
@@ChrisPBacon3000 what’s funny?
@@ChrisPBacon3000 just trying to spread some positivity. Post some links to your content, I’d love to hear it. My synth channel is Bedroom Explorations 👍
Wow that modular patch was SICK!
I have the Werkstatt and love it. This looks very similar and just as fun!
More fun. This has all werkstatt features plus more and more patch points
wow workflow tip is cool: 7:44
You're the F'n best man... 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽 Project Work flow jewel in the middle of a great review.
Sounds like this is a good start to a eurorack, so I could get one thing that’s complete and has all the stages to make noise, then add modules later
Thank you for a fun demo.
beautiful Jam!
You guys resonate well together!
Nice, a music pun.
@5:12 sick transition
Andrew! Just bought a Mavis. Can't wait to start my modular journey!
Very cool andrew, good job on demoing the new moog.
im a fan of your passion and energy. you always inspire and surprise me and its always a pleasure to hang out over a cup of joe or some bong loads and just enjoy your vast knowledge and your love of music and your desire to share with the world. thank you for that. lets jam someday!! hehe. keep killin'.
Awesome!
12:00 I use that trick all the time with a knight's gallow and a voltage block.
Regular note sequence with a different-stepped trig sequence.
Love the tracks.
would absolutely love a deep dive into the Moog Sound System with those cards, Ive been considering saving up for one for a while and the cards are honestly one of the most intriguing parts for me
It looks like a fancier Moog Werkstatt
"oops I made bubbles" might just be the most Andrew thing I've ever heard lol
That performance is beautiful
The LCM of 32 and 55 is just both numbers multiplied together. So the whole repeats after 1760 notes have been played. Or when the 32 notes pattern has repeated 55 times and the 55 notes one 32 times.

That jam is dope, Andrew!!
dude this music is amazing
Tagging projects is a great workflow tip! Thanks for that idea :-)
Genius level skills 🙏
Awesome sounds…. Holy crap every time I watch one of these videos I just want to get back into the studio..
Love this very beautiful and I do love Bad Snacks she is brilliant.
The mess of cables in modular synths makes me anxious lol
Great video, Andrew. Also, Bad Snacks rocks!
you are a pro. thanks for sharing.
I’m seeing modbang glow cables and that makes me happy!
Andrew you're such a pro creative.
andrew huang music is getting soo good
Great review. 5:02 that's a tight jam
Yeeee new gear🥰
I wouldn't be surprised if the modding community comes up with a circuit mod to address the fold and filter input issue you mentioned. Maybe... I'd have to think on the routing more lol
With that melody (described during the patch breakdown) how might you do something similar in Ableton?
I understand the concept, but I'm not sure if there's a way to replicate it without using analogue gear.
🙌 High five!
we want more andrew huang music
It sounds really f**kin' good
You're awesome dude.
Inspiring !!!!!
