  • Welcome to the inaugural edition of "The Squabblesons" - just kidding Doc and Tina. This is actually a striped bass video in the beautiful Long Island Sound featuring an OG Jigging Jerk Doc, and his long-suffering wife Tina.
    As I mention in the video, Doc and Tina used to fish for striped bass many times before they were married. On this trip, we are using fresh, chopped pieces of bunker for bait on a fishfinder rig and Tina hooks into a new PB for her at 46 inches and just under 36 pounds. Congratulations Tina!
    I have partnered with Hisea Boots again for an awesome promotion. I do NOT endorse products I don't believe in and I 100% feel these boots are the best in the industry, especially from a comfort perspective. For a limited time, get 15% off storewide by using the code JiggingJerks.

    When I was still in New York, I would travel out to Mattituck a couple of times a year to fish on the Capt. Bob. What a beautiful little harbor. Several osprey nests are visible along channel.

    I think that handling a fish that way might now be ILLEGAL in Massachusetts. They would rather that we don't even take em out of the water! Bad numbers on the rate of survival on released fish.

      I’m wondering how true that really is. We catch and release a lot of bass and don’t see them float to the top unless they are gut hooked. Conversely, when we are in Montauk, we do often see them floating at the top.

      My understanding is that when their dorsal fin is upright they are safe to return and do not need reviving as was the case with this particular fish.

    Always wore rain gear when fishing with Bunker. Stain does not come off clothing, and the smell lingers on your hands.

      @johnkeriazesakadoc7271 i meant hanging it vertically to weigh it. This has been proven to be awful for big bass. You're putting all the weight on its spine. Support the belly and hold horizontal. Also 2+ min on deck isnt exactly a quick release. Mid july that fish is dead.

      @@johnb2905 its common sense a fish spends its life suspended in water and isnt designed to be held vertically. Cool i wonder how many breeders youve killed in your 40 yrs at the circus. Plenty of research done on this.

    Nice catch. However, considering how hard it fought and how long it was kept out of the water, I doubt that it recovered. The lack of oxygen for that period of time really takes a toll on a fish that size. Just my opinion.

    John - curious to know when using braid mainline for chunking...what kind of knot are you joining brain to mono leader. I find the fish finder getting stuck at the knot often so wondering what works best.

    • @jiggingjerks
      @jiggingjerks  Před 3 měsíci

      So I never do this myself but I believe Doc uses a swivel between the fishfinder (which runs along the braid) and the rig itself

I cant afford to help you pay for that. For a video that's already dated ? I will stay subscribed to your regular stuff because I really do like your content. If I have to wait a week or 2 after your release then so be it. I don't follow you to find out where the fish are anyway. Best to you.
