WOW!!!! Amazing video! I've had my domestic sewing machine for over 16 YEARS and I never knew what that stitch was for hahaha!!! THANKYOU for a great tutorial and I'm a new subscriber UK xx
Oh Sewing Ninja Sensei! Teach me oh great master!!!! I need to come live at your house for a week and take intensive sewing lessons. You have imparted more wisdom in less than 10 minutes than I have managed to pick up in YEARS!!!
Nicole Hale you are too kind. Thank you for watching. I'll keep making videos. If you live near Indianapolis I do teach classes. My guest is sometimes free too ;)
Unfortunately I live in Florida.....but PLEASE keep the tutorial videos coming. I'm self-taught and feel I'm only at a beginner level.....and I'm a lifelong learner -so teach away! ;-)
This is a really well-done video. you’re very good at teaching. I’m a visual learner and most of the videos I watch have some music playing in the background or something silly like that and I can’t concentrate. Also your camera work is very steady which helps somebody like me. I can’t wait to get down my sewing machine and put this into practice!
Thanks, very helpful! I made a beautiful scalloped edge on a tricot garment today. The technique turned out so well, not only did I do the hem and sleeve edges, I actually used it to go around the neckline as well, by just turning under a scant 1/4" and stitching on the top side with matching thread. My Pfaff does mirroring imaging. This was trial and error, I'll admit, but it really turned out great with a length of 4.5 and a width of 6 (which are really different than yours, even though you are using a Pfaff as well) but it produced a fine and dainty little edge. I tried using the blind hem foot, however that made me really nervous about breaking a needle on that wire piece. Wish I could attach a pic! You'd love it!
I'm wanting to do this on the hem, should I first then add this to the edge of the hem or just put this on the bottom as the hem itself? Absolutely love your video!!
You could put embroidery thread in your bobbin. It's a technique called bobbin work. But you would have to do it upside down so it would show on the side you want.
Howard Goldstein it depends if your sewing machine needs that. You can see later in the video that when I had the blind hem foot on I definitely needed to tighten my upper tension. But it all depends on your machine. Check to see the thread is locking along the top edge of the scallop.
@@dragonwort I've just been trying this on the normal foot and its not working. .going to try the blind hem foot & alter the tension. ..practise practise. Love your video. .😊
Your narration is very helpful - thanks!
Thanks for watching

Thank you for sharing this nice sewing stitch to make a more decorative edge. I think I have some knit tops that could use that touch.

Brilliant idea, but sadly just discovered my 1971 machine doesn't have this stitch :(
Bummer :(
I'm wanting to do this on the hem, should I first then add this to the edge of the hem or just put this on the bottom as the hem itself?
Absolutely love your video!!
I think that hemming it regularly and then adding this to the edge is the way I would do it.
I want to add a colored piece of embroidery thread on the edge of the picot. Any suggestions?
You could put embroidery thread in your bobbin. It's a technique called bobbin work. But you would have to do it upside down so it would show on the side you want.
Stretch... Stretchstretchstretch lol
I tried this but my neckline was wavy. What am I doing wrong?
That sounds like you were stretching it a bit when sewing. What type of fabric are you sewing on?
I have a singer 5400 machine
.....do you need to tighten the tension a bit?
Howard Goldstein it depends if your sewing machine needs that. You can see later in the video that when I had the blind hem foot on I definitely needed to tighten my upper tension. But it all depends on your machine. Check to see the thread is locking along the top edge of the scallop.
