Having crossed the desert alone I fell in love with cacti and desolation and have painted the scene more than once. I’m happy this desert painting popped up upon one of your earlier pieces. Thanks for dropping in on America.
Hi Sharon, thanks so much for your lovely message! I would love to spend more time in the states, I have been there several times and always enjoyed it. Thanks so much for your support!
thanks so much for these videos, I can't wait to really get into them. My 9 year-old granddaughter (a nut for making art) and I painted the cacti today and we were delighted! I've been looking for inspiration for minimalist nature art and I think I've found it.
This is beautiful! For being unsure, it came out very pretty!
Thank you! 😊
Looks like a photo from an old Arizona Highways magazine. They were famous for publishing sunset pictures of the desert sky, many featuring Saguaro. Great to see how you blended the sky - so realistic looking. (Yes, I visited there). The sketch book seems a good size for this type of practice. Thank you.
Interesting! Thanks so much for your comment!❤️
Lovely colors and composition!
Thanks Debbie!
This is beautiful, Thanks Diane!!
You are so welcome! Glad you like it, it was fun to paint!
Wow!! Differently beautiful! Ty Mrs. Diane! Its nice to explore new art materials!
Yes, it's a bit of a contrast to the usual thing isn't it! Hope you are well Glorimar!
Love this!! 🌵 💕
Thank you so much!
great product
Yes, I was impressed. Obviously not one's main painting materials, but very handy for on the go.
This is beautiful!
Thanks Cathy!
Lol " the good, the bad and the ugly". I laughed out loud.
Spaghetti western? Lol.
This is beautiful, really!
Thanks Cathy! I'm such an idiot sometimes, my mouth will run on!
Thank you Diane for doing this for the team! I must admit you worked magic with it. I looked up the price and both the sketchbook and the pigments are pricey. Bright side is I loved the painting. Reminds me of my long trips across the desert from El Paso, Texas to visit family in Louisiana.
You are so welcome! It was very interesting and fun. I was surprised at the purity of the red and orange, and I'm going to do more sunsets with those pigments. They blended really well, and the turquoise was a lovely contrast to the dark blue. I see many sunsets and sunrises in my future....
🧡🧡🧡🧡
The colors are pretty and vivid. I don't see myself purchasing because it's 20.00 usd. I think I prefer a mini palette or fan of some type. Your blending is very pretty.
Fair enough! Viviva also have a little palette made of cork with the paints in in little pans, which I also have tried and find much better than the sheets. Also, there’s much more paint in them - might be worth thinking about!
an interesting idea but... i think i would cut the pages off the spine and put a gromit through the lot so it could fan out and give the paint sheets a chance to dry. paper acts like pulp and looks like it would have been better for sketching or line and wash. nice range of color though.
Yes, that was my first impulse, and I might do that. But the colors staying wet wasn't so much of a problem as identifying the actual colors as they look totally different on the swatch than they actually are when activated! My main concern was not being able to mix the colors freely like I do in my normal setup, but as I worked with them I started to figure it out. Like everything, it takes some getting used to! And yes, they would be very useful for outdoor line and wash work, or small illustrations etc. I was seriously impressed with the oranges and reds, which I have never really been confident with - they blended really well. So a very interesting learning experience for me!

Thanks!
Is there any information on pigments or lightfastness? I wonder if part of the reason they use different names in some cases is because (some of) these are dyes, rather than pigments? Either way, if they use a name like “viridian” it really should look quite close to what you’d expect from a tube of viridian. Nonetheless, I’m intrigued and may try them. Thank you for the demo!
Hi Vicki, yes they are dyes rather than pigments apparently, but Viviva aren’t very forthcoming in terms of details on light fastness et cetera - I wouldn’t bank on it though in any case I wouldn’t do paintings that I intended to frame using those paints.
Beautiful, I will purchase one of the stretch books. No sure about the paints. Would love to hear your thoughts on the paints? A newbie to painting good or not yet for these paints?
Do you know what, I think those little books of paints are really neat. They are lovely colours. And they seem to blend really well. I don’t know how well they would lift out, but I didn’t have any problems with them. I just think they are really a brilliant idea if you want to do sketching outside and add colour notes or colour something in if you’re painting while you’re travelling or… You know! They wouldn’t replace your regular set, but they certainly aren’t only meant for experts! They were designed with beginners in mind.

Thank you!
I do like it!
But had to laugh ( very silently ) because of your comment on the colors. Lots of colors have different names!
“ This isn’t sapgreen, this is olive green!”
Very confusing…… 😂
I know. Very confusing!
Interesting paints...🙄
Yes. Very strong colours, unexpected results. I need to learn how to use them before passing judgment!!! The sketchbook is very nice though. Excellent paper for the price.
