    Our cars often develop misfires during their lifetime, accurately diagnosing these misfires saves us not only time but money too, in this video I show how to trace a misfire simply with no special tools, wishing you all a prosperous 2022, Safe Motoring.

      Can you please make a video on how to diagnose issues with drum brakes and handbreak cables. I once adjusted our Toyota Conquest drum breaks but it only lasted for a few weeks. The pads seemed fine but I suspect it could be something with the cable.

Im thinking its the water pump ??? which looks like a big job.

      Crank angle sensor is prone to stuff up on these especially noticeable stall on idle or at low speed. There was a recall for this problem in about 2002 from my memory.

      Had the same issue. The fuel injectors (FBJB100) are made by UNISIA JECS (owned by Hitachi - the same company manufacturing the coils). You have to remove the fuel injectors and clean them with laquer thinners (hook a small 9v battery to it and a small hose and purge the thinners in reverse through it). Then let it "click" a few times to clean the solenoid inside. After that it should be good again (perform an idle air volume re-learn). These are lean-burn engines (the only lean-burn engine Nissan has ever made). They work different from stoichiometry engines and are more sensitive to these type of things.

    Good evening kind sir, I have a 2002 Nissan Almera 16 v twin cam, and I recently found out the previous owner had a problem with the car dying at the robot and didn't want to restart so they took it to someone and they said it was a problem with the fuel pump, it eventually started again however now I'm told theres a delay when accelerating and I also smell fuel, my uncle checked it and said the Throttle sensor needs to be replaced, a 3pin single.
    Pleaser advise on this. Thank you and a gt8 video in deed.

      The Nissan Almera is a timing chain engine when the timing chain stretches the cam and crank sensors go out of sync and disturbs the timing of the engine, the problem you describe sounds like this.

      @@vehiclemaintenanceandrepai3790 I've not seen the timing chain issue on SA models, though it depends on how regular the car was maintenanced (oil changes). Normally this only occurs on the overseas N16 model which also features Variable Valve Timing (omitted from the SA model). I've opened the front timing cover on mine (180000kms) and it was not stretched even 1mm (but I can't say it would not happen ever - I just have not seen it on SA models as of yet). It has an adjuster to compensate for stretch over time, but once it goes over 12mm the ignition timing (timing of the coil trigger) goes out.

      You must check the alternator for charging voltage, it could need repairing as a faulty alternator will not charge the battery properly and kill the battery pre-maturely, also make sure the belt that drives the alternator is fine and adjusted correctly.

      If you open the hood and stand in front of it - it sits on the right hand side (assuming you face the vehicle from the front, so it's on the passenger side). You will see a black cover with a hose (not connected to anything) and a lot of wires. If you remove that cover - you can pull out the ECU.

      It could either be faulty new coils, faulty injectors, or a compression problem such as burnt valves or broken piston rings, also when the intake manifold leaks it could also cause a misfire.

      According to your description of the issue, there could be many causes, namely a failing fuel pump, fuel pump relay, computer box failure, and stretched timing chains, when the chains stretch the timing of the engine goes out as the signal to the cam and crank sensors are severely affected, I had this type of problem many times, caused by the stretch timing chain.
      A simple way to check is if there is a rattling noise in the engine on start up then it could very well be the main cause of your problem.

    • @stever1053

      Crank angle sensor was the subject of a recall in about 2002 crank angle sensor and cam position sensor are both same so when changing one best to the other as well. Fit OEM as the chinese after market ones are not reliable.

    • @vehiclemaintenanceandrepai3790
      @vehiclemaintenanceandrepai3790  Před rokem +1

      It could be stretched timing chains.
      If there is a rattling sound in the engine on start-up, then the timing chains have to be replaced.
      When the chain stretches the cam and crank sensors receive an incorrect timing signal, therefore, causing the timing of the engine to go out and causing power problems as a consequence.

    • @carelminnaar8454
      @carelminnaar8454 Před 3 měsíci

      This is when the car enters "limp mode 1". Caused by a faulty MAF. The ECU reduces the rev limiter to 2500 RPM automatically as these cars are not drive-by-wire (they still have a mechanical throttle).

    Hello. I have the exact model Almera it was also stolen but when found, it returned with a misfire. When checking (as you demonstrated) I found that the misfiring is at coils 2 & 4. Now, I was advised to buy only 1 coil (out of 4) to see whether the misfiring would stop but the car still misfires. Would you advise that I buy the whole set (coil) or it might be something else that is causing the misfire? Also, I also noticed that the bleeder valve just behind coil 1 has been cut into 2 parts and with the upper part of it blocked with an old spark plug. However, when the spark plug blocking the bleeder valve is removed, the car idles a lot smoother even though it still misfires. Would you have any advice in this regard? Thanking you in advance for your response...

      The ECU in this model is quite primitive and is a barebone version of the N16 model running in Australia and China. The ECU in this is very very basic - it would only detect a failed coil in some cases, but not always. If you un-plug the injectors it will not even throw a DTC code at all. Also, in SA these cars came out with 14" wheels, but the ECU was never updated by Nissan to correct for the tire speed (which should be 15"). So the speedometer is also registering a speed of about 11km/h higher than the actual speed. Basically what I'm getting to is this model of car was a re-badged Infiniti G20 from 1999 (with modified body panels) and because Nissan took a lot of shortcuts, I'm not surprised that the ECU shows an error code not matching with what's actually wrong.
