  • Running the gauntlet today,
    The Savox Sb-2290SG Monster Torque, rated for 6.0-8.4V use. The servo is tested at the mfr. specified voltages of 6.0, 7.4, and 8.4 volts.
    The "New Canyon Protocol" tests servos piped through a Hobbywing 1080G2, which is running off of a regulated power supply. This will (I hope) provide as close is as practical to real-world stall torque numbers.

    Real wonderful and most informative. Wish you could run these tests on more Savox models.

      They're just so, SO loud that Savox don't make it to the bench very often. They're great, and I've never had a single problem with any Savox servo I've ever owned, but in a rock crawler, they simply won't do.

    I love the servo tests!! Waiting on you to test the Redcat servo if you haven't already! Their "torque spec" servo that came on the Ascent! Keep up the good videos!

    I have that servo lying around somewhere. It came in a 1/8th scale trail rig I bought from someone that weights about 13lb. I don't think it's waterproof, and it's loud. This one needs to be used on a comp rig that was built about 6 years ago with a super loud revolver and it'd be right at home.

    That’s all I’ve been running lately is the flash hobby’s…. IMO best servo for the money.

      I’ve been most surprised by the Flash Hobby RX-powered line, which are super quiet, smooth, and even cheaper than the direct-power models. I can’t complain about 50kg for under 50 bucks.

    You need a bigger BEC. The 2290 has a stall current of 10 amps. The BEC is limiting the power generated.

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  Před 10 měsíci

      “BEC not required but recommended for peak performance.” 700oz is more than enough for even an eighth scale application, AFAIC.
      Plus, if we’re adding a $30 BEC to the price point of the 2290, I’d classify it as a hard pass. Great numbers, but not $180+ numbers. I can buy three 700oz servos for that.

    • @flatlander7288
      @flatlander7288 Před 9 měsíci

      I bet if you had a MambaX or any ESC with a 8 amp or better BEC capacity, the readings at 8.4 volts would have been better. That is all I am saying. Besides, with all electronic devices you need to calculate the RMS values for power consumption. Not the advertised peak values.

    Australia watching. I use Savox because we don’t have a lot of choice in my town. They are not as expensive down under ( I believe) Plus the likes of a home’s hobbies is very very expensive if you can find or import one.

    Just stumbled across this awesome channel a couple weeks ago and loving it! Be interesting to see if you get different results from a different esc also. I’d like to build one of these to mess with for something to do.

    I've got the SW-2290SG in my TRX-4. I hate it, haven't got around to changing it, but truth to tell, I hardly drive it atm so maybe a job for next spring. The reason I hate it?.. it's so noisy, constantly trying to recenter itself even when the car is stock still.. drives me nuts.. no other servo I've had is so consistently "chatty"

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  Před 10 měsíci +3

      Savox have been noisy for as long as I can remember. I bought an MKS HBL550 for my first TRX-4, and it’s very nearly as loud. Great for go-fast, where we can’t hear the servo anyway.

  • @lastcreations8845
    @lastcreations8845 Před 10 měsíci

    bench supply is 10amp ? numbers and percentage change are off, huge loss of output compared to rated bec output i would guess at the 8.4 testing. 7.4 to 8.4 is 14% increase but only saw basically .1amp more draw and 3kg change. more that the 1080 is a 4amp 7.4v bec, or 8.4v with a servo pulling max stall of 3amps maybe. SO kind of proving 1080 bec is limiting servos in a round about way. think the bench powersupply will need to run high torque servos, similar in a way as a CCbec or similar

    • @lastcreations8845
      @lastcreations8845 Před 10 měsíci

      running the numbers in the test 1080 bec is giving 30 watts at 7.4, only 35 watts at 8.4 (if maintained the set voltage during test) roughly makes it 4.7 amp capable at 7.4 using 35 watts, or 4.2 amp at 8.4.
      while no servos test out perfectly linear, rough % would approximately be 1010oz uncorrected, full voltage & full amp

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  Před 10 měsíci

      So do you want to see the numbers you’re actually going to get in the field, or basically useless “look how big these numbers are!” kind of results?
      And as I said in another comment, $150 for a servo plus $30 for a BEC, when there are direct power servos making the same numbers (or better) for half the money (or less.)

    • @lastcreations8845
      @lastcreations8845 Před 10 měsíci

      @@CrawlerCanyon 2 fold and multiple conundrums. I understand the testing setup like this, it was more of a servo with specific esc/bec. It showed a bottle neck and curious if it shows up in other tests. Leads way to testing esc/bec actual output rather then going by the factory rating. Does not give a servo a chance to make full rated numbers though as well in testing. Agree on better/half money direct power, but are you worried about $30 if you are spending $150 on a servo ? and i would guess less likely to run a 1080 if $ amount was less of a concern. vast spiderweb for sure.

    There is an Injora servo that claims 35KG at 16 bucks, i dont think its going to reach 35KG, but im really curious about what can it do for 16 bucks

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  Před 9 měsíci +2

      35kg is a pretty achievable number now- all of the Amazon 35kg servos make more than claimed. I’ve tested a blue case Injora 35kg, and it hit the number but is the slowest servo I’ve ever tested. Actually remarkable in its slowness.

    Nsdrc RS1 is the same price as the 2290sg but its whisper quite and claims 1200oz, although it does require a 10amp bec. To me Savox is a trash overpriced brand pushed by hobby shops, anything NSDRC, REEFS or ShiftRc is miles better.

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  Před 10 měsíci

      The NSDRC servos are great, and I"m happy with every one here (past half a dozen, at least) but all of the torque numbers given by NSDRC are instantaneous torque, which is (IMO) a meaningless number. None of them have made the mfr. claim (save for the bargain RS-500b,) because I don't test instantaneous torque. They still make excellent numbers are offer great ounces per dollar, so I don't know why they choose to "overspec." Better to way underclaim and overdeliver like most Holmes, AGFRC, Amazon, etc. servos.

    • @Steve_J81
      @Steve_J81 Před 10 měsíci

      @@CrawlerCanyon I currently have 10+ NSDRC servo's ranging from 1/10 to 1/24 and none have let me down. I really want to try some shift servos but I can't get past the screen printing on them, I like my servos to be all black and quite.

      @themountain59 Před 10 měsíci
