- When it comes to Canadians' pocketbooks, pollster Nik Nanos tells CTV News' Michael Stittle that he hasn't seen this much pessimism in a very long time.
Then, Michael and Nik discuss how Canadians are divided over the capital gains tax and its effect on investments.
Also, Nik explains how delaying the tax until end of June could result in a short-term windfall for the federal Liberals.

I live in one of the poorest parts of Canada, I work for the government and make more $ than the average person, yet I can barely afford to pay my rent and bills. I have little debt, don't drink, don't gamble, don't pay for unnecessary things and remain financially responsible, yet I am almost living pay to pay and unable to save. If my rent increases by the same % next year as it did this year, I will be forced to sell everything I own and live in my SUV. How pathetically sad is that.

The cost of living is the trickle down effect of poor Liberal policies, namely the immigration influx and the insane taxing in this country. I think some of these newer arrivals should get deported. Our housing shortage is insane, and most of the available jobs are minimum wage or nearly so.

I dont have money cant buy a house. That does not mean they should be doing this. 250 grand isnt a lot of money these days. You cant buy a home for under that price that doesnt need a complete gut. They should be only taxing capital gains for 500 000... theyre not taxing the rich their taxing the upper middle class
Capital gains is a stupid tax to begin with. But, if we just have capital gains tax, it shouldn’t be 67% nor should it even be 50%. We shouldn’t be taxed on our exhales either but here we are I guess.
If for example you bought a house for $1 million, by the time you finish paying it off, and the value goes up to $1.5 million, you should be able to deduct any money you paid for Renovation and upkeep + property taxes + mortgage payments such as interest. Then SHOW me how much capital gains there are. If you live in a home or own property for more than 5 years, you should be able to deduct expenses from the profit made on the property?
The budget sucks, it will hurt all in the long run. Jobs will decline, businesses will leave Canada , or close, prices of goods will go up.
