    Hi there! Your videos are so helpful, I’ve been getting more and more into skincare and these describe everything great! • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey! :)
      Both are exfoliating acids. You may just want to stick to one for a while before switching or alternating with the other. This way, you can see which one your skin prefers most and what works the best for you.
      I recommend starting with using it 2-3 times per week for some time before increasing its frequency.

      @@nnayaf And what are your results?
      Yes, 😞 But what you can do is looking for an alternative, you may wish to buy a cleanser with Salicylic Acid in it.
      What I would recommend is using the Salicylic Mask twice a week. And probably wait until the solution it's back in stock. Or you need to buy the one from Paula's Choice, but that's just crazy expensive, and I think it's not worth it. But I would rather wait until the Ordinary Salicylic Acid Solution is back in stock, and like I said, to use the mask as an alternative.
      But in case you want to buy it it's this one: www.paulaschoice.com/clear-regular-strength-anti-redness-exfoliating-solution-with-2pct-salicylic-acid/620.html

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes, that's fine!
      How often you should exfoliate depends on your skin type and skin concerns. Some people do well exfoliating with AHA or BHA twice a day, whereas others find that once a day or every other day is a perfect balance. Test to see what works best for your skin.
      It’s fine to use both types of exfoliants (AHA and BHA) as part of your skin care routine - you can use them at the same time, alternate days of usage, or use one in the morning and one at night, depending on your preference.

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  Před 3 lety +3

      Hey 😀 Thank you. Yes, you can use it after. Here are the steps that you need to follow:
      Cleanser
      Glycolic Acid (Water-Based Serum, Exfoliant)
      Niacinamide (Water-Based Serum)
      Moisturizer (Cream)
      Steps:
      Cleanser
      Toner
      Exfoliant
      Serums (1.Water Based, 2. Anhydrous Solution, 3.Oil)
      Moisturizer&Suspension
      The general rule of thumb for order of application is:
      1. Water-based serums
      2. Anhydrous Solutions and Oil Formulations
      3. Lotions & Creams & suspensions
      Important:
      If you have more than one water-based serum, you can apply based on the priority of your concern (the product that targets the most important concern should go first). And it’s recommended applying eye-serums (such as Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG) first after cleansing.
      It’s recommended using no more than 3 serum formulations in a single routine for optimal skin penetration.
      About 2-3 drops of each serum and 1 pea-sized amount of creams should be enough for the full face and neck.
      Use a "patting" application method, as opposed to "rubbing."
      Always apply sunscreen when you are exposed to the sun!!

      Hey! :)
      Please do not use Glycolic Acid and Buffet + Copper Peptides in the same routine, keep them separate. Buffet + Copper Peptides (and all the other Ordinary Peptide serums) conflict with AHA and BHA (exfoliating acids) and Vitamin C.
      So you can use Buffet + Copper Peptides and Niacinamide in the same routine and/or Glycolic Acid and Niacinamide.

      Not necessarily. But since you are adding another 7% Glycolic Acid to your skin and you leave it on the skin, it can be a bit harsh.
      Try it, wait a few days 3-4 until you see your skin's reaction, and see if irritation occurs, if not try using it more often. That's the best way on how you can figure it out. It may work if you have an oily skin type.

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial

      The issues are that it can react with Niacinamide. But this only leads to redness or can make it less effective in some cases. But nothing to really worry about if you use it properly. So you can apply the products right after another just wait 30second to a minute or whatever you usually do ;)

Reading a lot of articles confuses me, I choose to follow your suggestion since I personally love your videos as well. :)

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  Před 4 lety +1

      Haha, yes, that's normal; there is so much information, and it's difficult to blend out the noise.
      You should not use Niacinamide with pure forms of Vitamin C. So, to determine this, you have to look at the type of Vitamin C that's in the product. Which is sometimes very difficult, since most products do not include the % and the exact formulation or name of the ingredients etc.
      Do you mean this serum? (www.amazon.de/Some-Mi-Niacin-Blemish-Brightening/dp/B07YFT3XTN) If so the product already contains Niacinamide so it is fine to use.
      Here is a video if you want to know which Vitamin C products from the Ordinary can be used in the same routine as Niacinamide.

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  Před 3 lety

      No, that's nonsense. The vast majority of rinse-off and leave-on skincare products are already pH-balanced, which does not affect the outcomes. They stay within that range, and it does not matter.

    Hey, I brought these and do them in this order:
    Cerave SA cleanser
    “Buffet”
    niacinamide
    hyaluronic acid
    Moisture
    I was also wondering if I can use glycolic acid toner, and salicylic acid that exfoliates in this routine. Also, what spf do you recommend?

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  Před 3 lety +1

      Are you new to acids (AHA and BHA)?
      If so, this is what I recommend:
      If you want to incorporate leave-on exfoliators (other acids like AHA or BHA), I always recommend using a gentle/neutral cleanser that doesn't include those acids so that you can add a leave-on exfoliator in the routine without worrying it being too strong/harsh or over-exfoliating the skin.
      And since you are already using the Cerave SA Cleanser which already includes Salicylic Acid (BHA), I do not recommend using another exfoliator.
      However, if you are not new to those acids:
      How often you should exfoliate depends on your skin type and skin concerns. Some people do well exfoliating with AHA or BHA twice a day, whereas others find that once a day or every other day is a perfect balance. Test to see what works best for your skin.
      It’s fine to use both types of exfoliants (AHA and BHA) as part of your skin care routine - you can use them at the same time, alternate days of usage, or use one in the morning and one at night, depending on your preference.
      Currently, I'm really liking the La Roche Posay ANTHELIOS ULTRA-LIGHT INVISIBLE FLUID SPF30

      It depends on what you do during the day. If you have a lot of sun exposure, then a higher SPF factor is always better. However, if you just spend brief periods outside, then SPF 20 or 30 is more than enough. Personally, I generally only use SPF 20 or 30, but it really depends a lot on your lifestyle. Therefore, you need to adjust accordingly.

      Hey :)
      Well, if you are new to an exfoliant like Glycolic Acid. It can sting.
      If you have sensitive skin or a broken skin barrier, an acid like Glycolic Acid can sting - irritates the skin. Or if you are new to it, your skin needs a bit of time to adjust to it, and it will go away eventually.
      For how long have you been using it? And how often do you use it?
      You either can use Glycolic less often or try and mix it with your moisturiser so that your skin can get used to it :)

      No, they are not. They only work on the surface of the skin, so they will not be very effective for controlling oiliness or reducing the appearance of enlarged pores unless there is a significant buildup of dead skin cells. Unfortunately, they are also not effective for blackheads that are already present since they cannot penetrate deeply enough to have an impact. However, it should be noted that there is no proper testing available to confirm their effectiveness in this regard.

    Hi!
    I just bought these two among with marine hyaluronics (the ordinary) and Paula's choice bha 2% liquid exfoliant for my oily/combo skin. Can you please tell me what products should I avoid using together and when is the best time to use them? P.S. I am not a complete beginner to acids, I used them in the past but not recently. :)

      However, you can do that; I recommend applying the caffeine solution after glycolic acid but before Niacinamide. Also, I highly recommend the following video:

    Hello! Thank you for the vid, i wanted to ask you, is it normal if after applying the glycolic acid toner then the niacinamide serum, there is a bit of foam in my skin until i finished applying it? I was wondering if it was my cleanser but i dont think so... it makes me worried a little that mixing both of them create a foam :/ it does not when i apply the niacinamide alone

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes, all the Ordinary serums do foam. I assume that you rub them into the skin? But anyway, that's normal, and it's just air that goes under it:=)

      @@MelissaVanDijkOfficial oh well, good to know! hmm I apply the serum like a moisturizer by doing circles on my skin, is that not good ? ahah thank you for the answer and the vid links, can I ask you if there is no problem with the glycolic acid toner and my skin if it stings on my face for about 5-10min (a little bit red but not that much)? it's my first time using this acid and I use it every 2days for now :o

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  Před 3 lety

      It's not wrong to apply it like this, but I recommend patting it into the skin (especially with the Ordinary Water-Based Serums) to avoid the foam and pilling which may can happen as well when rubbing it into the skin.
      Glycolic Acid may be a bit too strong for your skin which can cause sensitivity like redness, burning and/or stinging. You either need to build up skin tolerance which means that your skin needs time to adjust to it and use it 2-3 times per week for a while before using it more often. Or you can use an Acid like Mandelic Acid 10% which is very gentle and exfoliates the skin at the same time.

      Yes, that's fine!
      If you have more than one water-based serum, you can apply based on the priority of your concern (the product that targets the most important concern should go first).😊

    Hi Melissa! I use jojoba oil and lavender oil on my skin at alternate nights. Is it okay if I use these oils after applying glycolic acid and niacinamide?

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  Před 3 lety +1

      Hello Zarin, yes, it is okay to use those oils. However, if you have never used Glycolic Acid before, make sure to incorporate it slowly into your routine. And use it every other day during the first weeks to avoid skin irritation.

    Hi, Melissa! I want to ask if this would be the right way to use my products. I have little bumps on my forehead, acne scars and acne which is not severe.
    In the evening
    - cleanser
    - The Ordinary glycolic acid toner
    - moisturizer
    In the morning
    - wash my face only with water
    - The Ordinary niacinamide
    - moisturizer
    - and/ or only spf instead of a moisturizer
    I have one more question...is it okay, after my skin is used to acids, to incorporate lactic acid in my routine and of your answer is yes, how can I do that

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  Před 2 lety +1

      Hello 😃
      Glycolic Acid isn't great for acne as it only exfoliates the skin surface; the same goes for Lactic Acid. If you want to improve it, you need a Salicylic Acid or Benzoyl Peroxide product.
      In the evening
      - cleanser Benzoyl Peroxide (on the affected areas)
      - The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2%
      - moisturizer
      In the morning
      - wash my face only with water
      - The Ordinary niacinamide
      - moisturizer
      - and/ or only SPF instead of a moisturizer
