"This is a fine example of a lightly played and properly cared for 1959 Les Paul Standard. The overall condition of the finish, plating, and parts indicates that a high and consistent degree of care has been demonstrated by the previous owner(s). All of the parts on this instrument are in very good to excellent condition and all are totally consistent with the condition of the guitar and the finish. The top color is still rich and vibrant allowing the complex character of the maple top to show through from all angles. The instrument has a nice weight and balance; this along with an iconic 1959 neck shape and shallow neck angle, encourages playing. These traits, coupled with NO Bigsby or Grover installation and a 1959 year of manufacture make this one of the more desirable electric guitars in existence today." (Joe Ganzler, June 20th, 2013).
This '59 Burst is as good as it gets and to our knowledge is certainly the best available at the present time...
"What I dig most about bursts is, like chicks, they're all unique. Descriptions like, gorgeous, pretty face, killer, lightweight, great top, blonde, curly, or plain Jane apply to both. Nobody can really say they've got the best looking burst or chick. After all, one man's treasure is another man's trash and there's always one better anyway..." (Uncle Lou Gatanas - written many , many years ago...)
The most famous 'Bursts' have nicknames...
The previous owner is a professional guitar player with a small collection of 'Bursts'...
During our negotiations he would refer to this guitar as 'Minty' - so that will be her name from now on...

Sorry to hear about your dog.
I can only act like Phil X when I'm really drunk. You have a true gift Phil. Keep it man !!!
Taco Conch ii
I can't believe he's not wearing a belt.
And to think that Gibson pretty much discontinued this guitar and changed to the SG body style in 1961....They changed it all up because these guitars didn't sell well...Sunburst Les Paul's were still being sold up to 1962 and 1963 as left over stock from 1960....Now they are the most iconic guitar in history.....About 1700 of them produced in 3 years....Amazing to say the least.
And close to 950-1,100 of them are unaccounted for (from what I've heard)
they weren't selling, because back in the day, a Les Paul cost about $400, while you could get a strat for $100.
joe shmoe at my local guitar shop in around 1986, the owner had a good three dozen bursts, done with hangtags still on. $5k was the upper end of the scale. Aside from that he had ~500 pre-cbs Strats, n Telecasters, none of which cost more than a couple thousand at best.
Ján Bakoš they weren’t that much in the states, but yes, a new Strat was $179 abouts.
chris bassani can you imagine finding one in an old attic?
When ever I get bored at work i watch Phil's guitar reviews... and then I LMAO..!! Thank you Phil X..!!! AWESOME DUUUUUDE
WOW that Zep-o-rama at the end was off the chart!!
God bless you for playing "Earache My Eye" on a '59 burst. :-)
You are the best - keep up the good work!
I like the ratty Fender Cheech played on the movie. That was badass.
Maybe not the tu-tu 😕
Im not a gibson guy, Im really not...
but fuck my ass, every time I hear a GOOD vintage les paul, its just such a huge massive sound. Its a great sound, and I woul love nothing more than to have that sound available. I've had my hands on a LOT of high end guitars, but nothing has captured that absolutely massive sound these produce. wish they werent so expensive ;)
ok I feel the same way U wanna save easily 100k and get close? Very close..Please check out their Collector Choice series…Fuckin Amazing..I have 2
Hard to say which element of the tone here is the Les Paul and which is from the amps and their respective gain stages and tone stacks. I here nothing unique or remarkable in the tone here, and I think any good two humbucker guitar with the right construction techniques and materials will get you there. It does't have to be a Gibson.
***** ahhhhh…no
***** hmm.. I have dozens of high end guitars. Not a single one of them sound like a GOOD les paul (key word -> "good"). they have their own good sounds, but they dont sound like a good les paul. Its like a vintage strat, nothing sounds like it.
JgHaverty What does a good Les Paul sound like? What even is a good Les Paul? Peter Green owned a hallowed burst and thought very little of it.
Haha, you don't know how happy it makes me to see these new vids after so long. Especially now with college starting up again, I won't be able to play my own guitars as much as I used to, but at least I can look forward to watching Phil X playing some beautiful guitars from Frettedamericana each week. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this
the tonemaster sounds so small next to the friedman. that pink taco is SO nice
Isn't it 😉
friedman amps sound fat on their own, but I prefer Marshall style 'thin' sound better in context
Great to have you back man! And congrats on the baby!
It' s just SO GREAT to have you guys back!
I guess these videos are what i call "inspiration".
Awesome, keep it up!
This is single handily my favorite freatdamaericana video in the history of EVER
i know why fretted americana itself was a better place, it because its colorful, full of magic, and this place is just kinda grey and dark. thats totally it, colorfrul/bright
couldnt agree more
God bless his child, may it rock harder than it's father....
Congrats man!! I actually cant believe how much i missed these videos... AWESOME!

GIBSON LES PAUL STANDARD 1960
David Speer 51’ Nocaster checking in! Nice to meet you Paul.

Thank God! You are back!
Welcome back! I've missed your videos with all the wacky Canuck humour and wicked guitar work. I direct news at GlobalBC and everyone I work with knows who you are and what a kick I get out of checking out the latest each week from you.
And a huge congrats Phil!!!! Becoming a father is the biggest and best! My son now plays guitar better than I ever did.
And my deepest condolences about Mitzy. We lost our Westie 'Maggie' this past summer and it's been a very sad time around our house.
Cheers
This guitar is a historic icon, sounds just as good as my 62 Les Paul. However it is more collectable! Beautiful demo Phil, keep rocking!
congrats and best of luck on your new child- a big part of being a good dad is just loving your kid and making sure
that they know it- if I had that burst I would be one happy camper
Those 59s are the stratavarious of guitars....I have owned three historic 59s and have played two real 59s....and the historics are really close to the real deal they still fall short when you play the real thing....when I played the real 59s the whole guitar would just vibrate thru your body....it was beyond this world....🎸🎸🎸
Congrats on the baby phil! Awesome as usual!
So happy your back Phil. I can't wait for more
Soooooooo good to see you again
Good to see you back.
I just searched through the videos to find a jazzmaster vid when you jammed to "Hey Joe" on a looper. And you were wearing the same shirt . Awesome

Welcome to Brazil Phil X. I admire your work in
frettedamericana. Love those Guitars and amps!
The only reason I went to Rock In Rio was to get a close chance to watch Phill X live! Rock on!
I love the figured maple top on this guitar. Beautiful!
I fucking love Phil X.
They just started playing, watching it live on TV right now!
I didn't know session guitarists were still used as much as they are. This guy's discography is impressive as it is diverse. What a great musician. He just rattles off song after song so god dam effortlessly. I hate you Phil X haha.

Great idea having the band play with Phil, love it!
Glad you Made it back Phil X!!!!
Welcome back Phil. Awesome guitar. That Friedman sounds great and that's the best name for an amp I have ever heard
Ah Mitzy. Run in heaven's fields. Great Job Phil. So happy you're back brother. So very happy. Now eat your pink taco or no dessert.
I think is really tired, not a lot of energy like on the old days. But still he play's like hell i love this dude.
Congratulations too phil for going to be a father!
Cheers from portugal
That is one talented man right there. Full of life. Amazing
Best Phil X vid in a while! Not that the others were bad, I just really liked this one. :)
Sorry for so many comments, but damn. Seriously this show is pure humanitarianism. I wonder if renting certain guitars to guys that use the studio would make more money over time than just selling them.
finally i've been waiting for a new episode
great shout out to Mitzy, sorry to hear the woof go. Circle of life. Welcome back Phil, congrats on being a dad!
Awesome. Welcome back PX
Welcome back! \m/
Awesome . Phil you rock and crack me up at the same time.
Congrats on the baby Phil and sorry for the loss of your dog. Nice demo on the '59.
It's Saturday morning here in Australia, and I wake up to a smartphone reminder that a new video is up on YT for F.A. My weekend is made. Thanks folks, much appreciated. My chore for the day is to change out the tubes in my Evil*Robot combo and rock the f**k out. Congrats on the expectant bubs, Phil, and best of good fortune with your work with Bon Jovi.
Congrats on the new arrival! And on your impending fatherhood too :0). Love the Pink Taco, axe and amp - God-like toanz!
Missed these videos!!!! And I forgot about that VH song 'cause I'm old. Congrats on the (coming soon) baby.
glad you ar back and you are fine man.
damn, the longest summer ever without these vids... god save Phil!
That jam at the end with the band was f*kkin awesome!!!! The sound quality with headphones was outstanding!!!
He's a few years older than my parents and I'm 20. I can't believe how good he looks for his age.
Thank You EVERYONE! Love your thoughts and opinions on the show we read them all!
Excellent.
As usual.
You are so lucky to be able to be in the presence of such a perfect '59 burst
Welcome back Phil! Missed ya :P
i have to say before i say anything about the guitar. congrats on the baby phil ive been following you guys since the start of these videos so really cool to hear that. happy for ya phil!!! someones gotta carry on the demos for fretted american someday :P hahaha
Yep, Phil X + that 59' LP + Friedman = really really awesome tones. If I had the cash for a Friedman... I would get one.
