Mr. Paul Anka Great performance & Class act as always!
This is complete genius. Wonderful, insane and it works so dam well!
I love this. You'd almost think it was meant to have a jazz arrangement
70 years old and still rockin' !
This is really cool, Paul Anka take the grunge Nirvania Classic Smellls Like Teen Spirit and transform it into martinia lounge culture Mad Men era style. Very cool, I wonder what Kurt would have said. A different type of cool
Amazing. The song gets better when you listen it's different versions
Suddenly I am in love with this song again. Brilliant!
I am so glad I found this video of him doing a live version of the song. And to those nay-sayers: sorry, but you are not as big of a music lover a you think. Music is not about genre or boundaries. I am sad you may feel offended that a man in suit and tie is singing a song that is representative of counter-culture of the late 1980's and early 1990's, or that the song is being interpreted through a musical form you may consider old or irrelevant. But the spirit of jazz, in my opinion, is about achieving freedom within the confines given to you; such as improvising within the chords of a song. When I hear this song, I see Paul Anka saying: some people aren't gonna like it, but I enjoy doing this and expressing myself through this art form. So fuck 'em if they have a problem with me singing a Nirvana song in this particular way. That, my friend, is the spirit of counterculture, not clinging onto the way a song was done more than 20 years ago, or what the guy was wearing when you first heard it on MTV.
+Malaise Guy Although Cobain passed away before hearing this. Dave Grohl heard and saw Canadian crooner Paul Anka sing his swing version of Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit on David Letterman. His words, "I remember it wasn't until half-way through the first verse that I thought, 'Holy s---! That's Teen Spirit.' And I thought it was f---ing amazing," said Grohl."I thought it was so great. It was such an interesting arrangement. It's pretty classic. Did they have irony in the '60s? I don't know."
it's interesting to see people's reaction to this cover. Genres are forms of expression for artists to convey meaningful music that they are passionate about. It's an art folks, it's here to take or leave.
Paul Anka is a songwriter. He recognizes another great songwriter when he hears one.
Paul Anka is a songwriter and recognizes excellence in the craft wherever it comes from.
Paul Anka has a very good taste of music, having the balls to make a cover of one of the greatest rock songs of all time. (Yes, I know it's actually grunge.)
I am a rock fan and a jazz fan, so this is heaven for me. Thanks for uploading.
I need a whole album of Nirvana songs converted into Big-Band Jazz!
Unfortunately, Kurt did not live to do it himself.
This is excellent!!!
Simple amazing!
Priceless! Gives Steve and Eydie's "Black Hole Sun" a run for its money.
Love this
That was dope...
Really Great.. As others have already pointed out.. That's the spirit of music.. F@@ck the boundaries
Muito bom 👏 👏 👏
sure its corny, but its also valid. not my tastes but its a great display of how any tune can be reworked to just about any style. naysayers open your minds, you don't have to like it to admire and appreciate it.
Great
Paul should do Download, Saturday headliner!
WoW

Krásně zazpívaná písnička
Great chart and well sung. Music is music. Good lyrics, great groove, and with feeling-the way that all music should be. Wether it is jazz or Nirvana or pop- all good music must have these qualities. With all the terrible music written today with repeated words, lack of good lyrics and next to no melody-this is a nice change. Encourage good music guys, not trash stuff composed with loops from a computer. Keep music real and alive.
Gewoon geil deze!
I can't believe he had the audacity to perform this at the North Sea Jazz Festival. But then, I can't believe he got invited, either.
This rocks more than the original
My 4 year old son listens to the grunge one ... I listen to this one ...kind of wierd but its the truth ! :)
Crack!!
Dope! Haha
Roll over Nirvanah...
It's Paul's own original covered by Nirvana
I'm so over Nivarna, this rocks way harder!
This is actually....quite good. Kurt would have appreciated the unintentional irony of it. Anka has no idea he's making a fool of himself.
!not my kinda thing Leon! xx
Per piacere oscuratelo....
Yeah, much better than the original.
Watching an 80-year-old sing about his libido is a bit unnerving.
This is absolutely the most misconcieved musical performance ever.
Away better than Nirvana's
I think Kurt would puke, lololol. This is trolling the 'grunge' peeps, lol.
Nirvana is better than Paul Anka
Washed-up dude can't even keep the lyrics straight.
Sure, they aren't the best lyrics to begin with, but skipping "it's" makes the phrase "it's less dangerous" nonsensical. (I should specify: nonsensical in a bad way.) Likewise saying "my libido" early and then lamely covering by going back to "a mosquito." He should have said "an anticlimax" or just scatted.
It's an homage. My God, Kurt would have loved this if he'd have seen it and probably joined Anka on stage.
NotAtAll, He is playing songs from dozens of bands, his life does not revolve around Nirvana and their unintelligible lyrics so what if he messed up some lyrics.
He doesn't even realize he's making an ass of himself....he thinks he's cool. I'm looking at the members of his band, and those of them who are south of 50 are obviously embarrassed at their part in this fiasco. This is as awful as, for instance, Frank Sinatra singing a elevator music version of "Anarchy in the UK."
Smells Like Old Spice - musky, smooth and warm. :)
