Question: Suppose VHS tapes start being made again. How will they look on a 16x9 screen, vs a 4x3? Will the image know how to stretch or compress (like a DVD)?
@@TomIannucci22 What I mean is, if I pop in a new letterboxed VHS tape and watch on a 16x9. Will the new tape know this is a 16x9 screen and stretch accordingly? Or will it think it's a 4x3 and show black bars on all four sides?
@@TomIannucci22 Most VHS tapes though were designed for 4x3, even letterboxed ones. I think stretching a letterboxed DVD would destroy the resolution. Modern VHS tapes though might be designed for 16x9.
Everything is proven people don't know is much what they think they know vhs don't stop playing at all plus people like myself are fixing them with Scotch tape it starts playing again with out no problem's

Yes it will stretch the 4×3 to 16×9. I have a vcr hooked up to my flat screen.

@stpat7614 it depends on if your TV is set to wide or full. Set it to wide and there will only be bars on the top and bottom from the tape's signal.
