Mark Camoccio, reviews the latest innovation from Hill airgun pumps a marker system that tells you when to change your moisture absorbing media. Comment, or read more at gunmart.net
You should consider separating the two types of media, a method long-used in the compressed breathing air industry. Simple as getting a bit of light-weight felt from the fabric store, cutting a small circle of it just large enough to cover the colored media once it is dumped into the cartridge, then adding the remaining white media to the cartridge. The felt will not hinder the passage of air, and will prevent the two types of media from mixing together. Make sure the felt is 100% cotton felt, white or "natural" in color, and definitely light-weight.
surely the indicator beads should be at the bottom, when installed, otherwise all they are doing is sensing the water in the air being draw in and not what is going in to the gun?
I reached that age a year and a half ago where packets like the one the medium comes in started becoming impossible to open, even when they have the 'tear here' bit. The young may mock as they pump away with ease, you wait, your time will come lol
Interesting that both mediums change colour, I use the smaller pack kept in the clear packaging, to dry out and maintain moisture control for telescopes and eyepieces during storage.
I bought one of those hill pumps with the dry pack system and within a month it quit pumping used it maybe 8 times took it apart to rebuild it and the inside was so corroded and pitted it couldn't be rebuilt.

I should say I live in central florida and if you've ever been where I live the air is like breathing in a hot fog.
