Love it! I so remember all of this. The dolphin show also had high divers. The haunted house also had a slide at the end. And there was a tilted house there also. That was wheelies second location. We so loved the back entrance and was devastated when it went away. Cotton states area and Batman area has had the most changes through all the years. Thank you for the throw back. So many memories.

Ragin River was where the Georgia Scorcher was. The original swings was right near the Georgia Cyclone. The Free Fall was when you get off the Scorcher and go left, walk through the little vine covered walkway and after that, it was right on the left. The Flying Dutchman was a pirate ship, where the Batman entrance is. The Viper was where Superman is. The bumper cars was where the 3D ride is now. If i can think of anymore, ill let you know.
I worked at Six Flags over GA for about 5 years from 1986 thru 1990. That seating area at 36:59 was actually a show for motown classics in 89 or 90. I know because I ran the soundboard for the show! GREAT memories! I also worked at the Chevy Show!
Wow. The Chevy show…I loved it. I guess now it’s all gonna be those simulators that they charge an arm and a leg for…to get the same effect. Or my bad…I’m old…now you just put a headset on.
The airplanes was where Acrophobia is. The Looping Starship and Parachutes was where Goliath entrance is. I live like 40 mins from Sixflags and have been thousands of times. I miss the old days (90's.) The first time I went was back in 1992. I couldn't sleep from excitement. I was 8. I remember it like it was yesterday.
Fun video! I grew up going to SFOG. This was nice to see some great things I remember.
The 'freestyle coke machine' that is mentioned a few times... that was just a vendor. Meaning, a small booth selling Cokes with an employee inside.
Also, I saw a glimpse of Freefall...but would have loved to hear more mentioned. When I was in school that was THE ride everyone got excited about. It was there where Daredevil Dive is now.
Thanks for all the research and time to put this together. Again, really fun.
My first visit was 1967. The show in the Crystal Pistol had a plantation theme with live musicians and performers! The engineering on the Mine Train was state of the art and like nothing else we had ever experienced.
It has been great fun to watch the park grow over all these years. So many young people have wonderful memories of school trips, camp trips, church trips, etc. and how exciting it was to enjoy the park while pretending to flirt with cute girls.
I remember the drunken barrels, something to that effect, the barrels that would spin and make you dizzy, super fun. The Wheelie was my ride. And I remember a mini mine train, some kind of sideways house. The Flying Dutchman, and in the kid's area, they had this ball pit that kids could play in, and some kind of ride near the Scream Machine called Mo Mo and it was these buckets you could ride in, spin you around a bit, lots of fun and the Monster Plantation store was super cool. As you came out of The Chevy Show to the right. Before you started down the hill under the arched shade of plants, there were restrooms on the right. The really cool Coke machine was right out front of the restrooms.
Also, Buford Buzzard was in between Monster Plantation and the open air restaurant across the way. He was up top where the walkway started down the path beside the Sweet Tooth shop. He would have been looking at the back line of people going into Monster Plantation.
And, oh yeah, we always used the back entrance. We parked at the back. When we came out for our picnic lunch, we would drive to the picnic tables all along the edge of the parking lot.
When my children were growing up Coke always had buy a ticket and get one half price on their cans. That was the only way we could go. Tickets then (late 80’s) we’re $24.99.
I loved Buford the Buzzard and his Alabama jokes. He'd sing, "I come from Alabama with a finger up my nose".

I like how he'd reach down with his beak and give someone a picture of himself during every show.

I saw him one time climbing in the wagon (it was a wagon,right?). I felt like I had seen a movie star 😎.
I spent many days at SFOG in the 90s. We never entered through the front gate. We always drove around to the back side and went in the second gate. So many rides I miss. Freefall, Viper, Great Gasp and Looping Starship.
Does anyone remember the water attraction beneath the ending of the Mind Bender that had boats and air powered cannons that shot rubber racquet balls? They were like floating tanks if I remember correctly. Not even sure what the point was other than to just pay to shoot balls at each other.
Growing up we got season tickets every year and we always entered through the back entrance!! ♥️♥️Such great memories!!!
Yes, I remember the "haunted house" very well. My dad challenged me to go through it alone when I was five. I had a sister six years older who went with her friends, so of course I had to. I loved it, from the big mouth entrance, to the swamp creatures, decapitated woman to the spider pit and, finally, the big steel slide at the end. I was fascinated at the vampire man and woman "sleeping" in their glass-covered coffins, and watched carefully how their chests rose and fell as they "breathed". All tame stuff today, of course, but pretty creepy circa 1970.
In '73, my dad got his hands on an entire box of little brochures for the park which had a coupon on the back for one free frozen "cherry berry" treat, so of in between an ice cream and frozen juice bar. It came on a plastic "souvenir" stick that revealed an image of one of the rides when you ate down do it (log flume, etc). Well, I cut out about a dozen of those coupons and ate cherry berries all day long. Later, when I met up with my parents, we all got one together. My mother didn't like hers and I ate it, too. If we'd had season passes, I probably would have become diabetic!

Amazing video! I visited this park a lot in the late 90s and early 00s with my dad and sister. This brought back some great memories.

But oh. You forgot to mention the Free Fall ride that used to sit behind that dome structure where the Chevy Cinema/Shake, Rattle & Roll once stood (also demolished for Dare Devil Dive). That 1st Gen ride from Intamin was quite rough, if memory serves me, and it stood there from 1983 to 2006.
Also, SR&R, an Eli Bridge scrambler, was one of the reasons I'm into Scrambler rides! I've been wanting to get on one every year at various carnivals and state fairs growing up, and have been riding them since.

I grew up a few miles from the park and actually worked here from 1993-1995. We had season passes throughout much of the 80s and 90s, as well as various points since.
Where the Twisted Cyclone is, before it was Georgia Cyclone, but back before 1989, it was actually the location of the Hanson Cars (which were relocated to Carousel Hill).
Beside the Cyclone/Hanson Cars used to be the location of the Highland Swing. They've since replaced this with a swings ride back near Batman, as well as the Sky Screamer Swings back in the Lickskillet section.
Bugs Bunny Boomtown was Bugs Bunny World, and prior to that it was Looney Tunes Land, and before that it was the Pac-Man Playfort. You know, Pacman. The whole theme was based on like namco video games. Pacman, Miss Pacman, etc.
Beside the Mine Train used to be a kiddie coaster known as the Mini Mine Train.
The location of Acrophobia was where the Great Six Flags Air Racer was located.
The Monster Mansion was once called the Monster Plantation, and prior to that it was the "Tales From the Okefenokee" ride.
Where the DC Superfriends section is, where the Kiddie coaster is now, there used to be netting which kids could walk across. There used to be a theater where Wonderwoman is now located that was used for action shows. Prior to that was a high Dive show where divers would dive off high platforms into a pool below. Back in the 80s, this was the location of the Dolphin Show where trained Dolphins would do tricks for the audience.
Where Thunder River is located was once Jean Ribault's riverboat ride.
The location of Goliath was once home to the Great Gasp parachute ride, as well as the Looping Starship ride.
Daredevil dive's location was home to a theater, as well as the drop tower ride, Free Fall. The Chevy Show dome building was also in the same area.
There used to be two log flume rides. One of them was removed in the 90s to make room for Ragin Rivers Ride, a raft water slide type ride. Less than a decade later, they replaced that with the Georgia Scorcher coaster.
The front gate area used to have large fountains shooting water near the Pavilion. There was also a pond below one of the log flume rides where the Georgia Scorcher is now located.
The Batman section of the park was known as the Jolly Rogers Section of the park. It had a swinging pirate ship ride known as the Flying Dutchman. It was located where Batman coaster is now located. Mind Bender was back there.
Where the new attraction is being built at the foot of Carousel Hill behind Bugs Bunny Boomtown, before it was the location for Splashwater Falls, they had some kids attractions, such as using the skate rollers on which you'd sit down and move around.
The PacMan Playfort had two ball pits for the kids to play in, as well as a swinging carrot patch for the kids to run through. There was also a place where kids could walk on a rubberized tarp over water.
The Riverview Carousel was once all that was on Carousel Hill.
The Cotton States Section used to have the Dodge City Bumper Cars, as well as the Viper Roller Coaster behind the games section. At the far end of the games, where the entrance to the water park is now located, was the location for Mo Mo the Monster ride. Mo Mo was also in the location where Goliath is located prior to the Looping Starship. In fact, the Looping Starship was at Six Flags over Georgia for two stints.
Blue Hawks was once Ninja, and before that it was the location of the Z Force Roller Coaster.
The location of the Sky Screamer was once home to a gondola style ride known as the Wheelie. This was also the second location of Wheelie, as it was also in the USA section at one time.
There used to be a back gate where the go-carts are now located, and it was used almost as much as the front gate. It was where people would exit to go to their cars and grab their pre-packed picnic lunches to eat at the picnic tables aligning the Chattahoochee.
Great memories. I think The Great Gasp and Scream Machine were my all time favorite. And my all time worst was The Wheelie (let’s just say I don’t do well on rides that go round and round🤢) we would go on Tuesdays on a bus from church. You could ride any and everything over and over with hardly any wait. Those were the days
@@thatgirl2613In 1994, I worked as part of the Great Gasp and Looping Starship Crew. In 1993, I was in the Ninja crew. In 1995, I was on the Free Fall crew.
Since SFOG is getting an Ultra Surf next year, they would probably like to have an RMC Raptor for 2025 or on their 60th anniversary since Fun Spot’s AireForce One is likely going to start driving people away from coming to this park. I believe that it should be a clone or either Jersey Devil or Wonder Woman FOC if they want to purchase one.
I honestly would be all for a clone of jersey devil or even wonder woman…that would be epic !

Not so fun fact - The drive in theater was ultimately decided to be demolished due to the ceiling collapsing from rain.
Nice video this takes me back down memory lane. I worked at 6 Flaggs and performed for over eight years. Did you ever go see Rhythm and Grooves in the drive-in theater? That was one of my favorite shows I was in?

I'm going crazy cuz I remember two rides that I swear were at six flags. One was a mini version of the scream machine. It was a box coaster around the cyclone area and then there was another ride in that area it was late 80s or early 90s. Help! Either I dreamt about these all the time or I really rode them.
I loved th Chevy Show as a kid in the 80s. I always made my mom sick so she closed her eyes the whole time so i could watch it. Lol

I had wonderful times at Six Flags in the 60’s and 70’s. However, when I visited in the mid 80’s, a large group was allowed stage a protest and they took up the entire walk ways chanting whatever they were protesting. The park did nothing to stop it, even though it interrupted paying tourists trying to enjoy their visit. I never returned.

I visited SFOT in 2010, and to be honest, I think SFOG is a better park. I also think Fiesta Texas in San Antonio is better.
You did forget to mention that before the Georgia Cyclone was there; they had an old car ride in that same area.

I do miss what it was and how it used to be
Based on park attendance, it peaked when I was working there, around 1993. There were days that park capacity exceeded around 30,000 people, if I remember correctly, and they'd have to close off the park to anymore people. That was because there'd be no more parking spaces. The lines were long. I'm talking an hour and a half to ride the Ninja at times.

You May know but if you don't the cotton states expedition was a real thing that took place in Atlanta in 1895 to showcase what the state had to offer it was kinda like the world's fair of the south
My first visit was when I was in a stroller….born in 79 so whenever stroller days were. Oh and screw them for getting rid of the wheelie

It's strange how he says "back in the day", when he's literally referring to many of the changes that have taken place in the past 5-10 years. You'd think he was saying the 1967 to the 90s at the very least. For example, my daughter is 10 and she rode the "Little Aviator" when she was 3 and 4 years old. When she was 5 it changed to Speedy Gonzalez around 2018.

@@ThemeParksUncovered The sad part...they don't even seem to care. I was there last weekend and a random ladder was laying in the grass under the loop to Mindbender. Just lying there. I thought to myself, Am I the only one who notices things like that? Until while exiting, the girls sitting behind me said, "Did you see that random ladder?" haha. Oh well, you get what you pay for I guess. It is a little sad to see Six Flags get worse and worse when they have the option to get better and better.
The park has actually made a lot of aesthetic improvements since last year. They repaved the parking lot and it actually looks good again. They've also apparently repainted a lot of the flaking surfaces on railing, etc. It's a much cleaner park than just two years ago. Around 2018-2021, it was looking really rough.
