  • In this video, we will go through the step-by-step process of restringing one of the pleated compression window shades that are common to all of the RV's that I have owned. These window shades have spring loaded tension strings. For a written version of these steps, visit the Resources page on johnmarucci.com.

    Great tutorial John! I did this a few months ago and luckily succeeded with re-threading the string. It’s so important to leave plenty of string at each end to properly torque the strings so the shade works properly. I also will add that instead of using scotch tape, I used a lit match to slightly heat the nylon string until it melted, then rolled the end of the string between my thumb and finger to smooth out the end of each string to keep the strings from fraying. Your repair kit is the exact same one I used for my project. It comes with excellent instructions to do the job.

    Great video. I replaced strings in one of my shades today, and your video and instructions were very helpful! Unfortunately, things aren't always simple, and my older travel trailer had a few challenges. The shade was actually installed ON the valance which wouldn't have been a problem except with the shade in place, you can't get to the screws for the valance! So, that was fun installing it 'UP'. Thanks again for your tips and instructions!

      After tons of research I bought some spray paint bc I saw a video on repainting my cloth rv blinds...
      It wasn't until ibwas 90% finished that I realized I'd STILL used the wrong type of paint. 🤦🏼‍♀️🙄😂
      So the strings are all breaking.
      I didn't expect to actually find what I was looking for when I searched but OMG your video was the FIRST to pop up and these are my EXACT same blinds!
      Thank you SO MUCH!
      I'm going to order the Amazon kit straight away and get these puppies fixed! ❤😊😂

    Once again John saved me a lot of time and frustration. Why didn't I just assume that Forest River would have screwed the valance through the fabric and into the aluminum window frame so no one could ever find the connectors? Thanks John!

    Wow!!! Super video. My blind over the couch broke. No clue on how it worked so how could I fix it? Called a few blind places and they basically just did not want the job but rather would sell me a new one.
    Watched this video, got a working knowledge of the simplicity of these RV blinds. Then got to work. In 30 minutes, our blind was back up running smoothly down & back up and yes it stayed put in the up or half up position. Thanks

    Your videos are fantastic for a R-Pod 'newbie' (6/21 build 171, purchased 7/21). One of the tensioner mount screws on my front road-side window has pulled out from the wall...can I use a short (3/4") moly fastener in the hole? I really don't want to drive three hours each way to the dealer for a warrantee job. Thanks!

    • @JohnMarucci
      @JohnMarucci  Před 2 lety

      The walls on the R-Pods are very thin so I'd be cautious adding the moly fastener as you suggest. You may still want to contact your dealer to get their input. I'd also recommend to ask on the owners forum (not Facebook) to see what others have done: rpod-owners.com

    If the shade doesnt come down level at the bottom is the high side to tight?

    Great video and explanation. I restrung my shades but they still don't stay up. I wonder if I didn't tighten the string enough when reattaching the tensioner. My shades have 4 strings and 2 springs. I was very careful to reattach springs and strings the same way the came off...two middle strings to one spring and the two outer strings to the other spring and the two left strings came out of the right side at the bottom of the shade and two right strings came out the left side of the shade. I even took pictures before I took it apart. I took the shades back down an will check everything out.

    • @JohnMarucci
      @JohnMarucci  Před rokem +1

      It sounds like you may not have your tensioner strings tight enough. I do plan to publish a restringing video shortly that covers the larger shades with four strings. For now, you may want to have someone to hold the shade while you tighten the knots on the retainers.

    Hello John, I found your video on How to Restring An RV Window Shade very helpful except that our RV does not have the tension button at the bottom of the RV shades. The shades merely go up and down by pulling for down and pushing up for up. So how would the process for repair be for these kind of RV shades? Do you have any suggestions?

    • @JohnMarucci
      @JohnMarucci  Před rokem +1

      I have no experience with restringing shades without the round wall-mounted tensioners. You may want to search CZcams for other videos based on your specific shade. It is likely a shade type that has some sort of internal tensioner, so if you can locate a brand or model on the shade itself, that is where I would start my search. Thanks!

    I am trying to apply this principle of stringing a pleated paper blind to my house bedroom window, which currently is fitted with a cordless stick-on blackout pleated paper blind. I have a collection of tension springs and suitable cord is widely available. I will need to compress my blind fully, then drill a stringing hole through the pleats on each side. The only part of the video that I don't completely understand is the crisscrossing bit. What is the purpose of crisscrossing the strings? I've downloaded the relevant PDF from your website to see if it's any clearer.

    • @JohnMarucci
      @JohnMarucci  Před 26 dny

      I am fairly certain it has to be done this way to provide enough tension.

      Anne, I have not restrung the larger shade yet. It just recently began to act up, but I am not sure when I will get to it. I do plan to put a new video out when I do it, but it may be a while to get to it. Thanks!
