      Do you put teflon tape and silicon also at heat pump inputs or? They have its own fastner screw.

    It would a lot easier if you would use “union fittings” that you can connect and unconnected the pipes in the system. They don’t leak if you install them correctly.

    • @VIPPoolsandSpas
      @VIPPoolsandSpas  Před 2 lety +3

      This video is for the beginners on how to put things together. There are many types of unions, but I'm going to assume your talking about the male threaded union with the O-ring? If so, those are way more expensive and do leak more often then the threaded male / Slip adaptor I used in the video. After a very long time of doing this, this is the best way of piping things for no leaks long term. You can add a union (Slip/Slip) right after the male adaptor for easy disconnect for future sand changes,.

    I just bought a new Hayward Pro Series sand filter, 21". During setup I put a bucket of water in the sand filter (as the instructions say) and the drain plug leaks. I played with it a bunch and couldn't get it to stop leaking. It's definitely on straight and appropriately tight. It doesn't seem to matter how tight I make it, the same amount of water is leaking out.
    The only thing I can think of is maybe when the sand filter top is off, and there's no sand in it, maybe it leaks on purposes? The threads aren't stripped, and there's no sand or particles in the threads. I'm pretty stumped.

    • @VIPPoolsandSpas
      @VIPPoolsandSpas  Před 7 dny +1

      You can follow the instructions when it comes to putting water in the filter before the sand. There's a reason I do it this way and have learned over 30 years. When the stand pipe is sitting in the filter and you put water in it, the stand pipe will start to float. This will move it out of center. You will need someone holding the stand pipe down and center when putting the first 2 bags in. Water in or out makes no difference. When winterizing a sand filter for the winter, the water is drained out the bottom. So. No water. Or hardly any. As for the drain plug leaking. Try putting teflon tape on the threads of the filter. Then put the plug on.

    If you just slip a disposable cup over the pipes before adding sand it's a lot easier than the cardboard or duct tape

    • @VIPPoolsandSpas
      @VIPPoolsandSpas  Před rokem +1

      I'll have to try that. You still have to hold it so it doesn't move.

    Would you be able to share what kind of flexible pipe you use/recommend? When buying the pvc, is there a certain type I should be looking for also?

      Called "Tiger Flex"

    • @VIPPoolsandSpas

      Was using 1.5 inch flex. Some hayward filter will have the 2 inch dial, so use the 2 inch flex.

    Hi there! I just changed out the sand in my Hayward s244t and along with that I replaced the laterals and the multiport valve. I basically gutted the whole system and replaced everything with New. Now I turned my hayward Superpump back on and the handle was in the filter position. Now, I have a bunch of air in my lines and when I turn the pump on my skimmer has no suction. Is there a way to get the air out of my lines. I have tried looking it up and I have tried removing the PSI guage to release air, but it doesnt seem to help. Please help me!

    I can just use the hoses that come with the filter right ? PVC pipes are optional? Just ordered mine today, don’t really want to use pvc

      Yes. You can use the PVC Ridgid or the PVC flex pipe.

    • @VIPPoolsandSpas
      @VIPPoolsandSpas  Před 2 lety

      If you just changed the sand, there could be the "finer" pieces getting past the fingers. If theres alot of sand infront of the jets on the bottom, something broke in the filter.

    Wouldn't silicone make it hard to remove?

    • @VIPPoolsandSpas
      @VIPPoolsandSpas  Před rokem +1

      Nope. The tape and the silicone I use in the video are in the description and never get calls because it has leaked. Do it this way and the next time you even touch that fitting again will be on the next sand change 4 to 5 years from then.
