Luna is also another pop-culture inspired name. Luna (and Artemis) are the names of the talking pet cats in the animated series 'Sailor Moon'. They actually get a fair bit of screen time, so I can understand why kids growing up on that series may also be inspired to name thier own cats Luna.
Used to watch sailor moon as as little girl and I always wanted a cat because of the show. My mom was very allergic so it was just a dream of mine. I’m a chronic asthma as well but even that didn’t stop me to get a cat as an adult. I got my black cat but my son named him Weasley 😅
That's exactly why I named her Luna 🥰. It was Sailor Moon's cat 😻
I was just coming down to the comments to talk about this. Power of Anime! Glad I'm not the only one!
I love those and Sailor Moon as well.
I came into the comments to find this one, thank you. :)
We named our cat Romeow. He's a true lover. He's 12 years old now and going strong.
I have a Juliet😄
My cat named herself! I was sitting about three feet away from her, calling out various names to see which one I liked. When I said, "Annie," she got up, walked over to me and licked my hand. That was it!
My cat Jealousy was a similar story. We had been looking for a name (she refused catfish (bottom feeder of the five kittens) and Ace) She got mad when I petted her sister, and I said 'aren't you a jealous kitty' and she meowed at me. So I repeated it and she meowed again, then I said Jealousy and she came to me for pets. Big green eyes too.
Luna is a ridiculously common pet name in general. As a pet sitter, I've sat A LOT of Lunas. Dogs AND cats.
My cat is Benedict Cumberkitten named after Bennedict Cumberbatch. He's a tuxedo cat, so it made sense to name him after someone who looks absolutely good in a tuxedo.
We had a Lucy. We named her that because she was a brown tabby with faint red stripes. Her “redness” reminded us of Lucille Ball and we did Love Lucy for 17 years 😻
❤️
I just became the proud owner of a rescue. A three-month-old orange tabby, "KIT COBAIN," who meowed the whole drive home in her carrier. I had the radio on low, but when Smells Like Teen Spirit came on, he went silent. True story. 😹 I was kinda nervous at first, but he went right back to the meowing lol. So we're both Nirvana fans I guess, 😆 🤘🏼🐈🐾
Jackson, you're even cooler than we knew. VELOURIA is a great name! We are also HUGE Pixies fans!! You made us smile.
Tigger
"I Love Lucy" is still popular and I specifically remember a major resurgence of its popularity when I was growing up thanks to Nick at Night. I still say "Lucy, I'm home" to my wife whenever I come back from a trip.
I grew up on I love Lucy so my kitty is Lucy because she has the eyebrows for the name.
❤
A year ago I adopted two kittens from a rescue who had been found tied up in a bag thrown over a garden wall badly abused and beaten . The rescue had called them Elton and John. We quickly changed their names to Stanley and Alfie. They are now both confident happy relaxed adolescents who bring pure joy.
Toby in one of the top 3.
The name of our very sweet, soft and beautiful cat is Nya. Taken from the Greek name Nia, which I think means "Precious One". She is indeed very precious to us. We Love and value her so much!!!!!!
We adopted two siblings and named them Oscar (m) and Tony (f). Only afterwarrds, we realized that we unintenionally named our cats after the Hollywood / Broadway Awards XD
My old boy who passed away last month at 26 years old was called Xander (short for Alexander).
Alexander the Great. 😃
My younger cat Willow heard Jackson say her name and came over to see what he wanted haha
😂😂😂
I had a Lucy, her full name was Lucy Fur. :) She was so devilish and wild, Lucy Fur just made sense - lol
I named my cat Mitzi because I got her at the car dealership while my Mitsubishi was being serviced. They found her in the engine of another car when she was 2 months old and asked me if I wanted her. She's almost 4 1/2now.
Aw, Barry. I loved him! I was his special nurse at ASG, being the only one he would allow to draw blood from him. I would sing to him as I did it and he liked that. I know your wife misses him. 💕
We adopted 2 kittens last weekend. I almost named one Luna (as in Luna from Sailor Moon and Harry Potter). But we settled on Katniss and Rue.
Love those movies
I'd have to spell it Cat-niss.
Cute names! Congratulations on your new babies
Loved that!
I had a Katniss too - same reference - she was a lovely torbie girl and had the loudest purr. She was only 5 when she died from kidney failure two and a half years ago. We miss her every day.
Binx needs to be on here. I miss my boy so much...greatest source of comfort I ever had aside from immediate family..
Popular or unpopular, in your estimation?
I am honestly surprised Pepper, Mittens, Blue, or Shadow weren't in the top 10! Mittens was originally called Willow at one point though!
Such a great name for a black cat, loved Hocus Pocus!
I bet nermal was popular in the 90's. I remember naming my 1st cat Nermal who was a grey tabby, thanks to Garfield and friends.
What a coincidence… us too lol. Except we just got him and my wife is obsessed with Garfield.
I have two cats that have very unique names, my tux boy is Hyperion, named for the Sun; and my little black girl is Selena, after the Moon.
My orange tabby is named Amelia, after Amelia Pond from Doctor Who. We decided on the name immediately after meeting her: like Amelia, she's ginger and very talkative.
Amelia comes from Amore that means charming in a lovely way.😍😘
And it means that you can say "Come along Pond!".
@@kallisto9166 If ever get a second cat, we plan on calling it Rory.
@@kallisto9166 I love it!
Our cat is named Indiana Jones (Indy) for short. As a rescue kitten you could almost hear the theme song from the movies as he raced around jumping from shelf to furniture to floor leaving a trail of items knocked and broken in his wake. He has been an adventure from day one and we love him. He’s now 9 years old and a little grumpy but still a joy. His name will never make the top ten but it suits him even now ❤
there is a youtuber named walter santi who has a little orange boy named indy who is just as hyper as yours was!! he has a whole playlist for him, i think you would get a kick out of watching him 😸
Love his name! Don’t have a cat to name so won’t be punching it but a great choice ❤
My Siamese girl's name was Indiana Jones. I named her when I was 10. 🤣 I loved her so very much! She passed this spring from kidney failure. She lived a long, happy spoiled life. Now I have a black cat named Binx, who is also female. Apparently I like giving male names to female cats. 🤣
I actually have two friends who’ve had cats named Indy/Indie! I *think* both were short for Indigo rather than Indiana, but I can’t be sure, and also can’t remember the other reference, but for some reason “Indigo Tuesday” is coming to mind (it’s 1am here and I’m not finding anything with a quick google that cements it either). I’m pretty sure one of them was orange, and the other was either orange or brown (so nothing approaching being indigo coloured!). But it’s a good name, and you have a good reason :)
I knew a dog by the name Indy. I’m guessing it’s fairly popular. ❤
Lucy, Charlie, Loki, Oliver and Luna are SUCH common dog names as well 😂
I interviewed with a family that had a dog name Oliver.
My childhood cat was Maize. When my mom got her, the store had been calling her Maisy, but Mom thought that was too frilly, so she shortened it. Maize also happened to resemble a corn husk because she was a brown tabby.
I named my cat Niklaus after the hybrid Niklaus in The Originals. Many people would just say Nicholas, I had to correct many of them. One day during a vet visit, Niklaus was sitting on my shoulder while I carried his carrier. The vet called us up by his name, she said it correctly, looked in his carrier then asked where he was. I pointed to my shoulder and she told him "come here you little vampire". At that moment I knew she knew 😂
Nerd vet, awesome! People at my vet struggled to pronounce my bunny Hal's name, so I've kinda given up trying to make it easy 🤦♀️
Love that. I have a cat called Stefan ... "Friend" of Nicklaus haha
Ah yes, but do you sternly correct him on his misdeeds towards associates, and family in the voice of Elijah? One can only hope, lol.
@@demontekdigital1704 I actually do 😅
I love that name!
My husband and I got our cat from a rescue a few years back. She came with the name of "Macaroni Salad" because her litter was named for picnic foods. We thought it was so weird, we kept it. So now we call her Macaroni but we give her nick names like Mac Attack, Easy Mac, Big Mac, MicMacPaddyWhack, Goblin, and Trouble.
I named my cat Kagura, which is japanese for Spring Festival Dancing, the real exact meaning of it has been lost to time. I think it suited him fairly well in personality.
My charlie is white and orange! I love him so much, he's such an special little boy! He's turning 3 soon and I'm OBSESSED with him 😻🧡
I love human names for pets. I lost my 18 year old boy Rufus this year and adopted a 12 year old named Liam. People always just assume I have children 😄
I hate them.
Pets should be free from the shackles of humanity.
I like them-our cats seem to rise above humanity despite their name❤
I knew a cat named Rufus once. He belonged to a neighbor but would visit me. So sweet!
I have a Rufus and he is definitely a kingly red.
One of my boys is called Rufus. I don't think he likes his name tho... he never listens to it. He was probably named by the shelter after they found him as a stray.
I’d be very surprised if Baron Titwaffles was in there
😂What a great name!
My sister had a tuxedo cat named Basil. He was quite snooty and eccentric.
I had originally named my cat Snuffles because he likes to sniff all the sniffs, and he does it quite loudly, but considering his voice never "changed", he has a very kitten-like meow, and so his name basically became the sound he makes, which is Meep!
Meep is such a cute name. I ❤ Minnesota! 😄🇸🇪
My newly adopted sweet boys are named Louis and Lestat. I absolutely adore my little vampires❤
Love it!!!
Love those names ❤
My cat's name isn't in the top 10, but her name is Nimue. Named after the Lady of the Lake herself. It fits her so perfectly since she loves the water. I love my baby girl so much. 😍
Beautiful, didn't even know of it. Be blessed u 2 🙂
❤❤❤❤❤ that name!
I’m emboldened by your keeping the name Pazuzu. I’m thinking of naming my next kitten Sinful. I want to name him after my fave cat, Signal, but my ex picked that name and I didn’t like it til I loved my sweet cat so much I didn’t care what he was called! He passed away 2 months ago. 😢
I had a Ginger boy called Charlie, he was named after a Little Golden Book I had about a Ginger cat. Of course the name of the book was Charlie. I still have the book.
We have a little ginger Charlie too ♡
Charlie was the name of the ginger cat that was in UK public information films of the 1970's warning you not to get into strangers vans EVEN if they promise you can play with their puppies
We named the new family member that was found by my son in our back yard. Meowing for days and nights, under an old couch chair . All he can hear was the tail and a loud meowing sound. The moon light was shining bright real late at night so my son and daughter named her SHADOW. The black and bits of brown shade through her fur. She is a Calico cat is what the pet vet told us. Shadow of the night.
Luna was also the name of Sailor Moon's talking cat: since it was a pretty popular series in the 90's, I wouldn't be surprised if that also played a role.
My cat I named Kitkat: when I adopted her from the shelter she had been named Jitka (which is a woman name in this country), but it didn't ring feline enough so I picked something that had a similar sounding name while also reminding of a kitty cat... and in the end she happened to share the name of a popular snack.
I’m sure she appreciated you choosing a name she could recognize! ❤
I named my Lucy in 2001 in honour of Charles Schultz who had recently passed away. I wanted to honour him by choosing a female Peanuts character name. Yes, Lucy (in the Peanuts world) was bossy, but she showed at times tenderness and caring for her little brother, and it just seemed to fit my girl perfectly. Sally was a close second.
I thought Lucy was so popular cat name because it's short for Lucifer 😅 because cats are such little devils and Lucy is a beautiful name! Also the cat from Cinderella!
But there are lots of Lucys in pop culture and literature so I guess that makes more sense than just Lucifer 😄
My cat's name is Milla, short for Milla Magia which is Magicka De Spell translated to Finnish. When she was a kitten people said she's exactly like Magicka De Spell, possibly because she's black and white and has a lot of attitude 😄 So that became her name.
@@atinity6749 my father (a retired clergyman) nicknamed my kitty Lucifer….but he also nicknamed my sister’s cat Maggie, Maggot. Those names weren’t repeated much after that! LOL
We named our cat Milo because of the movie “the mask” with Jim Carey. I honestly didn’t even realize how popular his name was until we went to his first vet appointment and there where at least 7 cats in the waiting room with the same name MILO 😑😅
Our very hairy and angry persian : LUCI-FUR !
LoL! get it? 😼👹
My cat Willow is very pleased she's in the top 10. She's named after Willow from Buffy! I also had a cat named Loki years ago, she was named after Loki from Dogma. My favourite cat name was my beloved Special Agent Dale Cooper - just Cooper or Coop for short. :D She was a wonderful cat and I miss her to this day. 💜
Love the Twin Peaks reference! A lot of Twin Peaks character names would be great cat names, too. Imagine a mischievous little kitty named Bobby Briggs, or a beautiful and spunky Audrey Horne!
I was thinking Willow from Buffy, too, when it came up. My friend has a cat called Buffy. My cat is called Koothra, after Raj Koothrapali from The Big Bang Theory. Although she turned out to be a girl.
As soon as the name Willow was referenced, I went straight to the Buffy character! I'm so happy to hear that that's where you got the name from, I was feeling super creeped out that it wasn't mentioned as coming from Buffy! Also, sweet cat name!
Confirmed theory, I'm watching Buffy now so that was my first thought when I saw the name.
We also named our childhood girl who's now 21 Willow based on the Buffy character because I've always been obsessed with Buffy (especially back then at the turn of the millenium!)
My cat’s name is Howl. My sister named him after the main character in Howl’s Moving Castle. I love how unique it is. Most people think it’s because he meows a lot 😂
My husband is a medical lab tech. His orange tabby was named Platelet.
My neighbor had a cat named Lucy. She was named after Lucille Ball. They also had a friend for her and his name was.......Ricky! So basically they had the cast of I Love Lucy!
We named one of our cats Toonces, from the 90s SNL skit “Toonces the Driving Cat.” And she totally is that cat with the gumption to do unusual things, so it fits. Plus that long vowel is a sound she really responds to, which is nice. The other one was given the name Kippie at the shelter. It’s not a name I ever would have thought of, don’t know where it comes from, but somehow it suits her slightly goofy personality, so we kept it.
I love this! 😄
I named my ginger female Zoomie. In Hebrew it pronounces Tsoomie, and it’s actually a nickname for someone who is always seeking attention (yet it works perfectly in English, her zoomies are hilarious).
We’ve been spooning since the very first night I’ve had her.
It was a Disney scene. Cold winter, I was sitting in a cafè and she just stared at me from outside. Earlier that day I decided to adopt a new cat after my Rona passed away.
I walked outside to say hi and it was like she knew. I held her in my arms for 10 minutes while walking to the car and she purred all the way there. I had no idea how she would react to the car ride but surprisingly she just sat in my lap and purred. She wasn’t a little kitten, she was about 6-7 months old, so we are talking about hardcore instant trust for a cat. When we got home I let her go in my bedroom and closed the door so she wouldn’t get all terrified and run around.
She literally jumped on my bed and curled into the sweetest orange ball and went to sleep. Didn’t even want to eat.
It’s been 6 years and she is just the best cat ever ❤️
that is one amazing ginger! Zoomie is lucky to have you and you are lucky to have her! ^^
that's so clever!
I loved _this_ !
Zoomie/Tsoomie is clever, and so fitting! 🏆🤎
@@lilyd1010 My thoughts exactly…no peeking 🫣!
I always loved to name my pets more unusual names that mean something to me. My 3 previous cats were named: Jezabel, Gypsy and DeNiro. And my 2 current cats are Winchester and Azreal.
I love old fashioned human names : Lionel, Eugene, Marcel, Bernadette, Maude, Giles
I was all excited waiting for Luna to be announced but I wasn't expecting it to be number one! 90s baby here. I named my girl Lun fter the cat from Sailor Moon. 🥰
We just adopted our Luna today! I've always wanted a cat named Luna 🥰😂
LUCY! 😻 we waited almost two weeks to truly get to know her. She's, silly, loves to talk and a sweet scatter brains, lucygoosey. She's also white, but has a dark tail and as soft as rabbit fur so now she's also called Bunny. 😸
I have 2 cats, my oldest cat is a Tom Cat, he's gray & black & white,
I named him 'Socks', because he has 4 white feet. He's a year & 3 months old.
My second cat is a Female, she's a Calico Cat, I named her 'Callie', short for Calico. She's a year old. I love both my sweet cats.🐈🐈
I am a new subscriber however I've known and watched Jackson for years. I am more of a dog person, however I found a six month old kitten in a dumpster and to say she stole my heart would be correct. I named her Scully (X-Files fan) plus I found her on a pretty dark kinda scary night. She was so tiny but from moment one she made sure my three dogs knew who the real boss wad. They all get along great now. Thanks for all the help Jackson.
I loved "Milo and Otis" as a kid and when we adopted an orange cat, I begged my parents to name him Milo. And they did :) He was my buddy and was a huge sweetheart. My husband and I had a ginger named Lily and that name was always in the top of the cat name charts for a while. My parents found her outside and named her, and just thought her color looked like a lily flower. She was a special lady.
My cat Athena came pre-named by a former person who took her to Humane Society, stating on paperwork that she was "crazy" & "vicious" and that they didn't feel any placement would be appropriate for her! She bit a lot of people, including me several times, before I decided to adopt her.
I was planning to re-name her Suzanna, but after the first week I realized she really was the goddess of war so kept the name Athena.
She was the most alpha animal I've ever known: she got her way no matter what and never hesitated to use fangs to intimidate. (Great cat, though.)
My Nehemiah would like your Athena. He was a TNR cat and spent most of his kittenhood on the streets. He bites too. They would get along just fine, I bet.
I have one like that, Twilight. . . She is our attack cat! But we still love her.
last night I was literally thinking about all the differences between cats and dogs and how there's always an alpha dog. But w a bunch of cats they're all kind of Alpha! Had to share bc the coincidence!
I had a cat named athena. As a kitten she ran away from home out in the country and somehow survived and showed up at our door 3 years later. She was one tough girl. Sadly she passed in june.
I have a recently adopted 6-year old I have to keep in her own room for everyone's safety. We're working with anti-anxiety meds but 🤞. Love her so much.
Since I was a toddler (I'm 33 now) we've had: Ozzy (after Ozzy Osbourne), Elmo, Lucky, Freckles, Ana, Roxy, Boots, Brennan, Rowan, Angel, Allie, Brody, Kloey, & Pepper
My friend had a cat named Poptart. I always thought that was cute.
I work at a vet’s office, one of my favorite pet names that two unrelated pets share there is Dolly Parton. I just love the dedication, that’s hardcore
I had a male cat named Cirrus (see-ris). Like the high, delicate, wispy clouds. My fiancé George (rest in peace) was a pilot, and he named Cirrus. He was gray tabby on white. Cirrus was an exceptional cat. He was so very smart, so intuitive. He was my protector. He was death watch kitty for my father and for George. He lived to 16. Rest in peace, Cirrus. I love you, my boy. I know you loved me.
Hello meow meow
@@cirrusm.2829 Well hello Cirrus. May I say what a wonderful name you have!
Sorry for your losses and thank you for sharing ❤️🐈
@@hybridkoala Thank you, and bless you!
Great name! ❤. Sorry about your loss. Cats are family.
My 3 are, Oscar de le Renta then Louis Vuitton and Jimmy Choo ❤
My big, all-gray male was named Stinky Boy/The Big Kahuna…all 17 pounds of him.
I lost my sweet Lucy in 2014. I was blessed to become her mommy and best friend in 1998 and she was my other half through college, marriage and kids. I named her after my favorite character growing up from “I love lucy”. I sang the theme song to her while she passed. When I think of a ‘Lucy’ I think of beauty, independence, feisty attitudes and bottomless love and affection. 💖
I love this! When Lucy popped up I first thought of Lucille Ball but then I’m that old…
My grandma was trying to learn English and her favorite show that helped her achieve this was I Love Lucy. She named her first daughter, my mom, after her because she loved the show so much.
Sorry for your loss... What a beautiful life you were able to share together ❤️
My daughter adopted a cat named Ophelia. I think it is such a unique and beautiful name. Plus, it lends itself to all kinds of cute nicknames: Fifi Furbottom, Oaf, Ophie, OafLoaf, Fif. You get the idea. 💕😺💜😺
I also had a cat named Ofelia! And then a black kitten adopted my father - he was working as a mover, and the kitten kept climbing into his van, and was clearly abandoned so Dad was like "whelp, guess I am your human now - and so he named the kitten Hamlet of course!
We named a kitten Ophelia from Shakespeare’s Hamlet. But it wasn’t a good idea to name a cat after a crazy lady-the cat lived up to her name!
@@KosmiskRevolution 😀💕
I have a black cat. I wanted her to be strong and confident. I named her Rosa, after Rosa Parkes. The strongest, most confident, black cat I could think of.
I helped name my piano teachers kittens when I was little. The two black ones were always escaping do we named them collectively: Houdini. One was Hou and the other Dini.
My black cat was given to us with the name "Thirteen" by my ex's sister and we kept it. She knows her name and responds to it. It's a little weird having her name as a number, but it was apparently partially inspired by Eleven from Stranger Things. I guess 13 is considered a spooky number and she definitely fits the Halloween aesthetic. However, I can attest that she is actually a harbinger of good fortune.
13 is from the TV show DR HOUSE you should watch it is hilarious he calls one of the doctors 'thirteen '
@@JessiJamesRideOrDie Ha! I’ve seen some episodes but never watched enough to make that connection. I should start referring to her as a doctor then because she certainly is a healer. 😆
When I lived in China, I knew quite a few humans who had taken numbers as their English names. "Seven" and "Three" were big ones. I'd often try to convince them to change their names, especially if they had any plans to go abroad.
Indigenous Mesoamerican cultures hold 13 as a lucky number, alongside 7, 20, and others. I love 13 b/c it connects me to half of my ancestors.
My cat Anastasia lived with me for 19 years. I named her that because she was white and could be a Russian princess. She had a short tail and I later figured out that perhaps she was a Japanese bobtail. Much better to think that than that something bad happened to her tail before I got her when she was 3 months old! I sure miss her. I can’t even imagine having a cat for 25 years like you did. Amazing. Sure wish I knew everything you teach when she was young! Thanks!
In 2001 I adopted two young cats and renamed them Darcy and Bingley. Both have passed since.
My parents cat is officially named Origami but they have renamed her Fräulein but I always call her Mausi (little mouse)
Our home is blessed with a nearly two-year-old Ragdoll cat that we named Teddy Bear because he is so hugable and supportive. We most often call him Teddy, sometimes call him Bear and when he farts while innocently sitting next to you on the couch, we call him Stinky.
Very interesting. Here in Germany there are a lot of dogs named Luna.🌛
My first cat was named "Isis", after the Egyptian godess, and she sure was in command. Wanted no other cat beside her.
Second came "Mitch", he had his name from the breeder, and it fit - he was a no nonsense type of guy.
Third was one rescue in Italy - "Grigio Tenerone". It means the grey lovebug... he was always ready for hugs and cuddles.
Fourth said his name himself: "Araun"! He was a rescue too, and spoke in a very deep voice - no meows, only arauns.
Mitch, Grigio and Araun spent some years together, and after a while we had only Araun left, and added one truly happy dog named Kayleigh.
Now we are in with our newest: "Mortimer". You see him above. Very sophisticated cat. Very unique.
Mortimer shares us with black dogs, much to his regret.
After the first black dog, Kayleigh, had died due to age and cancer, he was a happy little bugger.
Half a year later I came home with a black standard poodle puppy, and although Joy really lives up to her name, Mortimer doesn´t hesitate to give her the evil eye.👁😾😁
I give my cat human names for the most part & tend to them after actors. I had a Jake & Maggy (named after Jake & Maggie Gyllenhaal) & now I have a Jack( named for the late Jake who passed away at 16 last summer😕) & Leonardo ( for Leonardo Di Vinci/ Dicaprio & yes,the astrological sign) I also had a 🐈 named Tigger & one named Little Guy ( we couldn't think of a name for him so we just started calling them that & it stuck)
My girls were abandoned in a park last October 1st at approximately eight weeks old. My husband and I could not leave them being so small and alone. After a trip to the vet and getting them settled we discussed possible names. As a kid, I always liked the Bewitched television show, and being October when we found them, I had the perfect names. We called our shy panther girl Tabitha (Tabbi) and our black and carmel outgoing tortie Samantha (Sam). It has been wonderful watching them grow into beautiful confident adults. I am so glad they chose us to be their humans.
Naw that’s so sweet @nancy dunkel - my first cat was a ginger boy who was left locked in a shed when his owners sold the house next door. My dad was out gardening one day & heard him scratching on the tin shed walls. We have no idea how long he’d been locked in there for. My folks fed him & he just adopted us. He didn’t really have a name other than Puss, but like you I was obsessed with Bewitched & wanted to call him Tabitha. I was breaking down gender stereotypes before it was cool. 😎😂😎😂😎😂 I wish you a wonderful life with your new fur babies Tabbi & Sam 🖤🧡
@@gorschtown Thank you!
After my cat spooky died at 21 years old I adopted two kittens brother and sister. They’re almost 2 years old, I have never heard them Hiss
I named my black cat Serena, after Samantha Steven’s dark haired, trouble making cousin 😊
JUST make sure of the cat's sex when naming it Samantha!!! I had a Bengal come around that I thought was a female so I started calling it Samantha or Sam for short. When it let me get closer to it I discovered she was a nutered he! Fortunatly Sam still fit and that is now his name with the addition of Hill, as in the expression my dad use to use if he was suprised by something, "What the Sam Hill?!?!?!?" Because he was ALWAYS getting into things
I have a Mr. Mowgli too! He’s 12 now. My soul cat was Ooey Gooey. I didn’t name him he had brother named Icky Sticky. My Ooey was always with me. He would put his paw on my face like he was petting me. He passed at 15 just 3 years ago but it still brings tear’s because I loved him so much.
Hilarious commentary and analysis! “Sociology…is not my long suit” LOL😂Don’t sell yourself short Jackson, you’re pretty sharp with the cultural anthropology stuff. Love the Italian flair too! You’re the best. Thanks!
Jackson I’m adopting my first cat since high school (nearly 10 years ago now, sheesh) and I’m SO excited, he’s a little black cat named Toby and I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart, and I’m sure little Toby will thank you as well - for being a source of incredibly clear and easily digestible information about our critter friends 🖤 I have already ‘catified’ my apartment and I’m so happy to provide him with a cat mojo friendly environment!! Thank you so much!!
That's so awesome, good luck & I wish you & your fur baby all the love health and happiness & togetherness for years to come ❤️😻☺️
@@brandyfelder9546 thank you so much 🥰
I have a black cat also named Toby! His full name is Toby McTavish 😂
@@kerryodonnell7289 ADORABLE omg 🥰
I’m so happy for you! Toby will have it made. :)
I HAVE A CLEOCATTRA
We had a cat called Puchini when I was little, don't know where that name came from at such a tender age.. but we loved him so.
We have had 5 cats in our family, only one still living and with a good chance of getting another one or two in the very near future. Our first kitty was TC (Top Cat), and then there was Beeper, and then litter mates Zippy (Zipity Do Da), and Sully (Sullivan), and we now have a rescue cat that was living under our porch, a long haired tuxedo that we named Max (Maxwell).
We had Comet, Nova, Nebula and Quasar. Over the years we’ve lost all but Quasar, so we recently got two kittens, who were litter mates, and we wanted to keep the space theme going with Luna and Lyra (a harp constellation). We thought we had come up with unique names but apparently we weren’t as original as we thought we were 😺
Lyra...that's a pretty name
Lyra is gorgeous
Ohhh theyre all pretty names!! Which also makes me curious, to what reasons are you naming all your cats with astronomical objects (or related)?
@@ary3024 It started with Comet. When we got our second one we named him Nova and it just went on from there 😂
Related to the space theme, I named my (current) cats Yuri, Neil, and Tina/Ziggy!
It's kinda embarrassing to admit that growing up we had cats we called red, gray, and blue, usually preceeded by "Ole" or "Lil". My current cat, an orange & white tabby, is Kittain (Kit-ayn). Thanks so much for your content, Jackson. We all adore you for your kind spirit and gentle doses of wisdom.
I have had 2 white cats one called Bianco " White" in Italian and the other Gatto " Cat" also in Italian I have zero imagination for names 😋
I was just adopted by a stray Tabby on a cold winter nite. At first, I called him Winter for the short stay. When he had no one claim him, his name became Enzo Bello! Enzo is "home ruler' in Italian. And that's what he is!
One of mine was named accidentally. He came to us as a little blue gray kitten and I started calling him Mr. Blue to call him something. The name ended up sticking and he has been Mr. Blue ever since.
Almost named my Jax “Blue.” After the Blue Ridge Mountains. His ears reminded me of those mountains.
My kids are mostly unique with the exception of 1 (will be obvious):
1) Shadow (black), came with the name from the shelter and she was my very 1st kitty. So I didn’t want to change the name she was use to. Now she is my little shadow and she follows me when she can! 🖤
2) Ventus (orange tabby), named after one of the characters from one of my favorite video games, “Kingdom Heart.” 🧡
3) Lollipop “Lolli” (torti), named by my mother in law who at the time had JUST accepted me as a daughter. My wife and I have been together for 11 years by that point and married for 4 years (at the time). She was very against my relationship with her. Mom gave me this kitten and called me daughter for the 1st time. I was so touched. ❤ So we let her name the kitten. 🖤🧡
The kittens in my current life are Hugs (Grey and white male) and Kisses (calico female). These names came probably because they were such a comfort after loosing my 16 yr old, Snickerdoodle (most times reduced to just Snickers). We had a Butch who was black and white and had markings around his eyes that resembled having a "black eye". There were many others. I leave this comment with two clever names my Mom gave cats we had: Cookie and Crumbles. 🍪😻😺
I have a little 6 month old grey tabby, and called him Leo because when my friend sent me a pic of his miniature 8 week self I saw he was a fierce little lion with an attitude. And I was right. He is a mischievous fellow, very funny and sometimes irritating. I adore him.
We had a black cat we named Spot so we could say "There's a Spot on the couch" and laugh! Also, a male cat named Pretty Boy and his sister named Little Girl. Great names until you have to call them in at night and the neighbors hear you.
My orange tabby is Sparky. My first kitten had that name, and my dad didnt let me take him with me when we moved. So 3 years ago I found an adult cat just like him at the shelter. I picked up where I left off. He is the clingiest cat ever had lol. He follows me everywhere and sticks to me like static.
Red headed cats have the Sweetest personality! My red-headed cat I had many years ago was named Sébastian
I have found that it's best to let any type of pet reveal their name to you. 😊
I agree, it takes a few days to learn their personality!
@@CARNELIANTURQUOISE I agree 100%! When I named them too fast, I have wished I could change it but they already know it.
My cats over the years: Leonard - he was fearless even as a young cat (Leonard means strength of a lion); Burrrrt - who had pneumonitis when we adopted him and couldn't meow properly; all that came out was a scratchy-sounding "brrrrt"; Scooter - who was a very hyperactive little girl; Archy - he would come weaving around your legs for rubs and arch his back so high that only two legs would be on the ground; Cosette - who had that same sad/worried expression on her face as the drawing of Cosette used on posters for Les Miz; and finally, Figaro - who was the same coloring as Figaro in Disney's Pinocchio. Other than Leonard (who escaped the balcony on the second floor by leaping off and was found by strangers after being hit by a car and didn't survive - he was only 2 at the time), the others all live to at least 19 years old. Burrrrt lived longest at 22 years. I miss them all, but at almost 70 myself, I can't bear the idea of losing another one when I'm 90, so now I just cat-sit for friends.
My girl was Lucy - after my favorite show when I was young - “Lucy! You have some splainin’ to do!”
When I was adopting a shelter black cat, I got Wilda. Her name was actually Wilder because the last person that had her thought she was male. I kept the name Wilda because she responded well with Wilda. Sometimes I call her Wildabeast when she's active and playful. 😼
Anyway, what I really want to mention is the names of the other two black cats I saw because they're the best names I've ever heard. The female cat is Blaire (like the Blaire Witch) and the male is Nosferatu (old, black and white vampire movie).
My black tabby Maine Coon was actually called Blair by the breeder, which I didn’t like - for me, I feel like cat names should be 2-3 syllables, preferably ending in an “y”/“ie” sound or an “a” sound… and it also made me think of either Tony Blair, or the Blair Witch Project, neither of which fit her! She’s a mixture of mostly black stripes on a background of pale beige (with a creamy white belly), with not a lot of brown in her coat (“black tabby” and “brown tabby” are the same thing, at least in terms of Maine Coons) other than some places on and around her face - a largely desaturated cool-toned version of a black/brown tabby! And I called her Nikita - though mostly I call her Nika, or sometimes Kita... or Niks (rhyming with cheeks), or Sneaks! It’s an ever-evolving list 😸
With a cat named Nosferatu, I mostly want to know what the short version is! Four syllables sounds like a lot for a cat in daily use.
Wildabeast is great 😻 I call my boycat Harvey Danger when he’s causing trouble or up to no good (because his actual name is Harvey, and somehow it just rolls off the tongue to give him Danger as a surname 😹)
Agreed. All three are great! My late kitty (in the picture) I got in third grade, I didn't give a creative name, but it fit him: Max : ) Will always miss him.
Ohmygod, you just reminded me of a totally unrelated story! The actor Donald Faison (Scrubs, Clueless) named their daughter Wilder because that's Aaron Taylor-Johnson's daughter and he's a fan. At least so he thought 😅 Aaron's daughter is actually named Wylda, but Donald thought it was just Aaron's British accent!
I named both of my cats after villains Loki and Harley Quinn
My five month old is named Harley after Harley Quinn!!!
I have a Harley Quinn too
I have a Harley too
@@verreal you were right
My cat is a flame point Siamese. I named him “ Rusty”. Because he is splotched with apricot & white.
We just got a kitten and named him Nobody after the main character in The Graveyard Book; we call him Bo for short. It’s perfect in so many ways ❤
I thought Nobody was named after a character in a western
I love talking about personal finance. One thing that I love to talk about with my friends is having goals. Most of the people who can't stick to a budget and keep the same bad money habits are those who don't have any goals or objectives. Always have goals for your money guys. @Isabella I urgently need his management on my Investments
How can i massage Mr Richard ?
@Isabella Thanks for the recommendation , I will contact him
the war here has taught many people the importance of Investment. Investment is the key to achieving success with the current war here in Russia🇷🇺 slowing down so many businesses
I agree with you, I had a senior colleague at work who lived well but never had an investment, unfortunately his job ended so he went from living well to surviving with his family
When I was young I had a cat named Charlie. He lived to 16 (rest in peace, Charlie). He was a brown tabby. He was a cat's cat, very dignified, not goofiness. I love you Charlie.
it must have been fun singing to your cat "my velouriaaaaa"
So many interesting names there & some of them surprising. I have an 8 year old Ragdoll, I named him Aspen, as he is so fluffy & he reminded me of a snow cat. My previous cat, a Birman, I named Neena, just liked the name & she was so pretty & delicate. My parents had two Burmese they called Lilly & Poppy after the flowers
My perfect childhood cat was named Poppy, who I named at age 5-6. I was thinking of buddy poppies, because I wanted a buddy. Everyone assumed he was a female, though. I thought if sounded masculine like, “Pop.”
My little girls name is Soup (short for Mother Souperior) :) I like names that are simple and short but then they stand for something funny. She’s grey and white and has a ton of energy.
My little boy and girl are called Mayhem and Chaos 😄 These are the names their fosters gave to them, and it is the reason why I chose them. The names just spoke to me, and I knew they were meant to be my furry little friends. So of courseeee I kept the names 😃 That made their fosters so proud and happy 😊
Love those names!!!!!!
Cute names 😂
Mayhem would be a great name for a female cat. You could call her May for short, and no one would know!
Also, glad you adopted them in pairs. Siblings, I hope. They always live the happiest lives when they have pandemonium playmates. =D We have two cats, but with a big age gap. My younger one always terrorizes the grumpy old lady, constantly wanting to play. She's going to get her comeuppance when we adopt a new kitten!
@@MadamFoogie Oh yeah, Mayhem and Chaos are brother and sister 😃
I once heard of a workplace that adopted 2 kittens and named them Debit 💗 and Credit 💙 respectively
My black kitty cat is called Kevin. I adopted him from a friend who found a litter of 5 black cats. He called them all Kevin for some reason hahaha and when I brought him home, I tried a bunch of names but he would only respond to Kevin. It suits him anyway & everyone laughs a little when I tell them his name
I grew up with a Tuffy. A Tabby cat famous for chasing 3 German shepherds out of the yard, the groundhogs and Anything else that did not belong.
