The reason they left Jean and Connie on the cliff with the other people was because they had already come into contact with the Titan Smoke. The only people that are immune to it are the Ackermanns and Titan Shifters, so those were the only people they brought onto Falco's Titan at the end because anyone else would have transformed and caused Falco to fall.

It is important to note that the meaning and message of the war shown in the ending of Attack on Titan is not that ``the war will never end.''
The message it carries is that even if you remove the cause of hatred, new causes of hatred will still arise. The message it conveys is that the only way to end war is to ``never give up on understanding'' and ``throw away what is important (your own side's justice).''

That flashback with Mikasa sitting next to Erens grave is a moment from the 1st episode. Its actually pretty sad if you go watch it back because young Eren wakes up to Mikasa and says "I feel like I had a long dream... But I cant remember what" while hes crying for "no" reason. Eren said it himself the conflict won’t end, but the fear, the power, the curse he, his friends, and his people had to live with is gone. All Eren wanted was his friends to be free of the titans and he accomplished that. He wasn’t a hero trying to save the world, he was a boy trying to save his.

  • @radamanthy

I liked the ending, both in the manga that shows a little of the survivors' lives a few years ahead and this one, which shows humanity's inevitable destiny of self-destruction, no matter the futile reasons we find.
Eren had 2 main paths to follow that depended on Mikasa's choice when he asked her how she felt about him, if she said she wanted to run away with him, he would have run away, but the Eldians would have faced the force of the world and probably would have been exterminated , but Eren and Mikasa would survive until Eren's life limit.
With the choice of genocide, Eren gave his companions time to live, the wars we saw at the end occurred many years later, society would not have been able to create such powerful weapons so quickly with few resources and people. Eren gave his life so they could live theirs, but humanity follows its destiny...
    Thanks for the journey.

    Bring you some Fun Facts:
1- Eren didn't open his eyes during the bang, at any time... He only opened his eyes in his last breath just to see the face of his beloved, Mikasa.
2- It is believed that the last bird that wrapped the scarf around Misaka's head was a bird known by its Japanese name, "Tohzoku Kamome". Furthermore, the English name of this bird is “Pomarine Jaeger.
This is a very famous consideration in Japan.
3- In the final credits, where Eren and Mikasa were buried, an old man (Armin) still visited their graves. He was the last of the trio to die, just as when they were children running to the tree, he was the last to reach the tree, where it symbolizes their lives.
4- A white flower was placed during her death, which symbolizes purity and virginity. So together, Mikasa's flowers send the message that she will not forget Eren, she still loves him (but believes he can no longer love her back), she will remain devoted to him, and she is waiting.
5- Mikasa wrote “Here rest forever in peace, my most beloved, my dear. 854” in Eren’s tomb. The first two times Mikasa visits Eren's grave, she places four roses, which means that nothing will happen between two people who love each other but cannot be together / the famous tragic love. Last time she put a rose that means “you are still the only one”.
6- Mikasa and Eren spent 4 years living together in Paths (chap. 138). And only when he “passed away” there was she able to kill him in the real world. (Mikasa was blessed/presented by YMIR because she did what Ymir was unable to do in 2,000 years, kill her loved one, because Mikasa had this attitude, she presented her with 4 years in a parallel world, with an alternative ending) .
    Hope you like it =)

Yeah people didn’t like the end where it’s a cycle of violence. They felt like all eren did was pointless. However that wasn’t the point of this story. The main point of this story is to have hope and strive for mutual understanding. Humanity as a whole will always find reason to hate one another. We are all stuck in the forest but the important thing is trying to get out of it.

iirc the manga made it seem like the peace they won ended maybe two lifetimes later which made the story feel far more hopeless, which the anime fixed by clearly showing the passage of time and how many thousands of years it would take for that peace to break again, making it more bittersweet.
the other part people didn't like was armin seemingly thanking eren for committing atrocities for his friends without much in the way of saying 'genocide is still bad though you know that right?' which the anime also very cleanly fixed with the talk of going to hell together.
i'm glad isayama got to use the anime to better phrase and pace the ending.

The curse started When ymir was dying after getting hit by the spear she was still longing for the King to show love but he didn't and she let herself die. The curse ended when Mikasa chose to stop eren. Eren loved Mikasa unlike king Fritz to ymir and wanted her a good life. Ymir was smiling while looking at Mikasa kissing eren realising they loved each other even till the end which she never had from king fritz and let herself free.
Eren created an Alternate cabin life in paths with Mikasa so that he could spend time together with her before dying.

  • @rabela1810
    @rabela1810 Před 10 měsíci +19

Here's my interpretation for the ending. It is a FITTING ending for Attack on Titan and is CONSISTENT with the main theme/objective/premise of the show = "To Get Rid Of All Titans From This World" = That is AoT's origin story.
The 2000 years history of Attack on Titan can be viewed as Founder's Ymir personal struggle to overcome her Stockholm Syndrome (A real mental struggle where the captors fell in love with the kidnappers). She knows she is supposed to hate King Fritz who burned down her village, killed her family, enslaved and torture her. But being born and living the life she had, she still yearned for love and unfortunately fell for the worst man possible. OVERSIMPLICATION yes but it gets the main gist.
Ymir is the only one with the power to decide what happens with the Titan's power. Even in the episode "From you, 2000 years ago" Eren only prompted Ymir's to decide. However, like Eren said, he is powerless from this, as the Attack Titan he can see and experience the past, present and future all at the same time, he tried to look for alternative solutions but the vision of the future just WOULD NOT change. He didn't wanna go through with the Rumbling (his personal struggle and monologue in Part 1 movie) but he had very little choice, his only way is to move forward, he is A SLAVE OF FREEDOM.
Mikasa on the other hand, is the real person Ymir was waiting for all these while because Ymir sees herself in Mikasa. The "Runaway story" is like Infinite Tsukiyomi, it is only a VISION of a possible future, the viewer experience it fully but it never happened in reality nor there is another timeline. Mikasa was presented with 2 scenarios, 1) Abandon humanity and embrace love, runaway with Eren, but this way Ymir continue to being a slave, Titan power remains and continue to terrorize humanity 2) Save humanity while sacrificing her love (she can still love Eren nonetheless), kills Eren, and Ymir can finally be free of Fritz command and choose to remove Titan Power from this world. Mikasa was able to influence Ymir to make the decision to be free from King Fritz. Hence in Ymir's vision she chose not to protect King Fritz (this is only symbolism, the past didn't change, only showing the change of Ymir's heart)
The whole conversation between Armin and Zeke is basically a discussion about nihilism thinking that basically says "what's the point of living if all things eventually die, why does anything matter if everything comes to an end/dies" - and Isayama's answer to that was "Every small moment and happiness is worth living, even though all good things come to an end" - This is also a BRILLIANT 4th wall break homage saying THANK YOU to the readers - "Even if AoT is about to end/dies, every moment that we (Isayama and fans) shared together was WORTH IT"
The Ending/Conclusion of Attack on Titan is spoke through Levi's monologue = the sacrifice of the hearts of the scout regimen was to reach this place - "A WORLD WITHOUT TITAN". This brings the whole AoT story to a FULL CIRCLE. It might not feel satisfying for some but it is a SUITABLE, FITTING, PERFECT Ending consistent and complete with its origin - "Getting Rid of Titans from this world". Isayama didn't set out to provide a solution for human conflict, what he did was only pointing out through Pixis and Erwin that "human conflict will never end until there's only 1 man remain." He emphasized it once again through the end credits shots - nor matter what happens, human conflict never ends. Even if the Rumbling was complete, Paradis will still fight a civil war, even if Paradis was wiped out, the human remain will continue fighting".
However to say this end is MEANINGLESS was a misinterpretation, the whole discussion on the boat with Historia's letter is designed to specifically answer this - they shall continue to fight in a world without titan, and they shall always aim for peace - "they will want to hear our story, how we used to fight as enemies have now come together to advocate for peace" and THIS IS Attack On Titan, a story about conflict, about human cruelty, about war, about racism, despite EVERYTHING that happened, the ending comes down to both sides reconciling, advocating for peace and working for a better future. THAT is the MAIN MESSAGE of Attack On Titan - DESPITE EVERYTHING, we should strive for peace. Isayama did give a conclusion (conclusion not solution) about human conflicts but a lot of people missed this.
I can understand if you can say it's not satisfying for everyone but there's 1000 Hamlets in 1000 people's eyes. It still doesn't takeaway all the GREAT PLOTWIST and BRILLIANT WRITING of ISAYAMA the GENIUS.
Thank you Isayama, Thank you Mappa and Wit, Thank you for all the staffs that worked on this MASTERPIECE. Just as Armin am glad to be born to race with Mikasa and Eren, and Zeke was glad to be born to play catch. I am glad I am born in this era to witness this Masterpiece.
Additional fun fact about AoT is it takes some inspiration from Norse mythology - Ymir = Founder of Frost Titans, Yggdrasil = the tree of life that connects the 9 realms, this is where the tree in the path is based on I believe and Jormungandr = the World Serpent that eats it own tails, a symbol of infinity = the weird snake like thingy that seem to be the source of Titan Power. The connection is NOT STRONG but I think Isayama definitely taken some inspiration from it.

The manga ending and the anime ending is the exact same, it's just the anime has some added conversation between eren and armin that wasn't in the manga. In the manga eren's motivation was explained in a lot more subtle way which lead to many people misunderstanding his character and thus not liking the ending so the anime is a lot more straightforward with explaining eren's motivation so people don't misunderstand.

To me this is not even bittersweet, its just soul destroying. A kid mass massacres 80% of the world, kills some of his friends in the process just to save Paradis, which then gets annihilated in the future anyway. So in the end, all he achieved was a little time. Mikasa probably struggled through her whole life even if she married someone else, etc. Idk, it’s just painful.

Eren couldn't change the outcome because like he said, no matter what event he changed, it still led to the same future. That's how AOT's universe works, it's deterministic. 29:23, should be noted, if not realized sooner, that the millipede alien thing is NOT Ymir, but the ancient lifeform that fused to her to give rise to the Titans. It hints later that perhaps it is Life itself, evolving from one thing to another and doing everything to stay alive, which may be one thing that led to the creation of the "Paths" of the Eldians, where it says "Life and Death do not exist". It's not crucial to this story and I'm no expert, but we know for certain it's some ancient lifeform that is the source of Titan powers, and thus destroying it and Eren removed the Titan powers from the world.
And then there's the real purpose and "truth" of the world: That no matter what, humans will find a reason to war with itself. And eventually, whether it be decades or centuries (unknown how much time really passed for the modern city at the end credits), countries will inevitably war with each other. Eren only delayed the inevitable, and did the one thing he wanted: gave his friends long lives of peace.

Little detail that isn't really mentioned ever. Eren got the power of the titans on his birthday. At the start of the Final Season, he has 4 years left, but he also dies on his birthday and his countdown would've dropped to 3 years. This means that when they all return to Paradis and Mikasa is at the grave in the final scene, that would've also been when he died in her alternate reality. This theoretically is what caused her to break down like that since she would realize at that moment that that is when everything would have ended for them even if he didn't choose genocide. It is also Japanese tradition to lay white flowers on a grave to represent purity and virginity. This means that she did not find anyone else unfortunately. This ending is bittersweet 100%, but that is what Attack on Titan is. I am glad that this was the ending and not some rewritten garbage specifically to try and please the manga readers that didn't like it. Every time an ending is rewritten because it is controversial, it always gets worse. Thank you Isayama for such an amazing 13 year ride. I got the true titan shifter experience from him. And finally, "To the boy who sought freedom, goodbye..."

The child Mikasa was carrying in her arms at the end was not her child with Jean, but an adopted child.

There are three reasons what I think Hajime Isayama was trying to convey in process of making Attack on Titian📖
1.)You matter: A lot of people in this world grew up in households were their parents expects greatest from them and when they don’t live up to their parents expectations they can often feel like they don’t matter. Eren who is the main character of Attack on Titan his mom Carla says “When it comes to my child it’s fine if he never great he doesn’t have to be better than anyone he is already special because he was born into the world”(Carla) Isayama wants everyone to know they don’t have to be the president, football athlete, actor, singer and Rapper to even exist in this world you matter simply because your alive and you have a good head on your shoulders💯
2.)Hatred: Hate will always exist in this world like it or not you always going to find that one person who hates you cause you look different act different, and talk different Isayama wants us to understand despite all the hatred in this world that should not stop us from trying to shine love and peace in this world.
3.) Freedom conclusion: A lot people slave to something in this world Hajime Isayama believes you should do what you want and don’t fall into the habit of pleasing others cause you end being a slave to them forever if you do. I totally agree with him everyone should live for themselves once and awhile traveling, explore, and do what makes you happy. Eren Yeager wishes he can do what we all are doing which is traveling places with our friends and family seeing places and meeting people but he couldn’t cause of his circumstances but that didn’t stop him from doing so he still chase his freedom despite being a slave to not being able to be free
I’m truly grateful that I’m alive and well to see your series come to end thank you Hajime Isayama I pray we meet someday soon my friend🙏🏽🙌🏽

And Mikasa started her new family only after 10 years of mourning and waiting, which Eren told Armin. In Mikasa's heart, her eternal first love was Eren, so she wore the scarf until the moment of her death.
    True pure love.
What the author wants to convey to us is that people are born to love and should live satisfied with small happiness even in everyday life. Anything else means nothing.
    Love everything.

On Eren, it's more clearer on rewatch to understand him. He isn't jumping back n forth. He's been consistent with his reasonings & actions. What he said to Armin is the same he said to Ramzi as he was crying n confessing in the previous episode.Takes time & looking back to comprehend him properly. I've written a short synopsis about it , attached in the reply.

On contemplating more, Eren wished there was a better way all the time, he didn't wish for the outcome that he saw from the memories, which is why he is (a) distraught at the end of season 3 ocean scene, and asks armin whether they'd actually attain freedom, if all the enemies were wiped out. (b) desperate against Hange in the cell for another way (c) falls into a sigh of resignation when Tybur declares war ... so on
In the end, in order to actually carry out the rumbling, it takes sheer willingness (powered by revenge he couldn't let go of) and disillusionment (childish view of freedom) hence child Eren in Paths. He highlighted and magnified these worst and negative traits & desires of himself, as a fuel to make himself carry out the dreaded deed, something which he HAD to do, bcoz it is a result of choices of him & ALSO other humans.
It wasn't for his childish dream alone, he HAD to move forward despite the costs, to Reach 'The End'.
'The End' - being his vision of the best possible resolution he cud envision - (i) world without titans, Eldian's salvation (ii) his friends to be free from Titan curse & live long lives (iii) his birth island to survive for his friends to live full lives - this he managed, by sparing the remaining population outside the walls - to be same population in the island (no immediate reprisal)

It's like a multiverse like Loki or Marvel. The story is predetermined, more like Interstellar. That's why Eren can't change the futur. The fact to transcend futur and be able to create different outcome is impossible. Because there is one line of time and no others can exist. That's why it's more realistic and looks like our world. Our world is like that and slaved to an outcome predetermined by everyone choices. If you had a camputer able to memories all data from the world. It will be possible to predict futur, like we predict the weather. If somone is able to transcend time, he will be the one slaved to fate. Because the pieces of futur he saw made him try to change it. And in trying to change it, it made the futur happen. No matter what, Eren will do it and there is no others solution possible because futur determined the whole History. If futur wrote past, then past can't change and will become the determined futur. It's a loop yes. With his death, Eren just gave to humanity the freedom to chose another path, freed to the slavery of predterminism and fate. But like he said, he can't change Human nature. He only can erase a futur already determined. And that's what he did with giving freedom to Ymir through Mikasa killing him.

this suggests Eren had tried an alternative to the rumbling and that hadnt gone too well but he wanted to live with Mikasa even if that route lead to the mutual destruction of humanity/eldians or just genocide of eldians
