    Eye opening. I feel like you revealed a secret shortcut for the ones like me who still need a wing for downwind and who are (were) looking anxiously at the milestone (SUP'ing learning curve).

    I'm building carbon foils now in the shop. Just eyeballing it... I have two mast molds made, I figured out my own style of fuselage and reverse engineered how to make the wings etc. I have about 20 sets on the way for about the price of one complete set. Boards are next, I'm in North Carolina and can't wait to get moving with these. I see wake thief doing great work ~ Stoked !

    I’ve refused to try downwinding simply because I refused to learn to sup. I had a winboard that I was able to prove into some wind swell at this break in Ewa Beach. Not big enough to use a prone board. But with a bit of volume and lots of paddling, I got into some bumps.
    This is an absolute game changer!

    Would you mind commenting on where to get a set of the large paddles? Looked for swim training ones, don't seem to be large enough. Thoughts? Thanks!

    This is my answer. Hardheaded against holding, buying and using a paddle. 60 years in the water on shortboards and I refused to go long. Now I can’t wait to get a DW 8’ board and scratch knee paddling

      @@windaddictnot, yet. I struggled in the flat bay with my 7’10” and ordered a 8’8”x 26”, still in glassing.

    Great, thanks! What board do you recommend for a big guy beginning that and I want to use it as a wingfoiling low wind board...is 120 liters giod? What brand is good ? What board is good but not extreme? Thanks ! Gerrit

    I've watched the evolution of DSUP boards getting skinny and aggressively V-hulled, and took a clinic with Jeremy where they only people able to paddle up were on these newer super-skinny boards. I have a 127 SIC Merlin that I windfoil and learned winging on, but it's a barge to try to paddle up with a J-stroke. I'm guessing it'd be same challenges with hand paddles? (I use a Takuma 1750).

    This is inspiring guys… I’m 65kg, can connect waves prone and surfed my all life though never supped. What do you think at a board around 6’5”x18” - 90L and an high aspect 1150 to start my downwind prone voyage? Did I understood right that narrow boards paddle better?

  • @dexlofi
    @dexlofi Před rokem +1

    If there's wind I'm using a wing and that way I can go in any direction and foil forever. If there's no wind then surf foil or paddle foil makes sense to me.

      @@voyagerfoiler5976 True that. I've done it and it's very fun but I feel limited without my Wing! Hahaha. Awesome video! **Also never done prone downwinding like Kahi, Scotty and Kawika but I hope to eventually get to that level!

      I made some last week... I drew them in CAD and laser cut them out of 1/8" Delrin (Acetal), but you could easily just draw on the plastic and use wood tools to cut the pattern... I used a bike inner tube for the straps, but I think surgical tubing would work too so you only have to drill circular holes. If you put SUP EVA deck material on one side they will float.

    Beach starting and pumping a foil board is harder.

    • @voyagerfoiler5976
      @voyagerfoiler5976  Před 9 měsíci

      pumping is not harder, its the last thing we rely on when we are downwinding if you are truly a skilled downwind foiler. pumping is the second thing you learn after you learn the takeoff/balance. Beach starting is a trick, not a true skill set involving various and multiple factors.
