  • I pot on the potato cuttings, I think I should have waited a little bit longer. I got some great deals on the day they announced the winter fuel payment here in the U.K. has been cut unless you’re on means tested benefits This is without any notice. ! May be a better thought out plan would have been to reduce it this year before removing it all together, in order to give people time to prepare.
    Here’s a link to my video on how to start a prepper pantry on a tight budget.

    I’m not surprised by the end of winter fuel benefit, at least those on pension credit will still be able to claim. We have also been affected by this so cutting back to get ready. The mess our country (especially the NHS) has been left in though 😳. It would have happened eventually whoever was in charge but yes more time to get ready or incremental cuts would have been better. I think worse is coming and so far they have set the scene. Prepping some stores would help. We need to help each other now, helping the elderly to claim all they are entitled to, sharing, supporting local charities where we can. We are lucky our town is a very supportive one with a community fridge, a regular food box in the school holidays for struggling families, food bank and helpful councillors. We need to move away from divisive politics in these difficult times and help each other. You did well on those fruit reductions, eat the healthy food while it’s in season 👍

    My yard has voles!!! Voles love eating roots and everything I plant is their food. I gave up and now watch birds and sketch. I love your videos and wish I was your neighbor in that beautiful neighborhood. Love from USA.

    I use solar lights outdoor lighting and short strand Christmas lights to save on electricity. Save $$ If you buy the led lights after the holiday or at dollar store.
    I purchase food on bulk. Even meat,I get in bulk & cut to portions, seal in seal and meal bags. I cook in bulk meals,again portions are broke down and sealed for later.

    I've harvested potatoes from my potato tower yesterday. There where some cuttings like that with little potatoes 🥔 I should have put them back in to the container 🤔 Yours will grow nicely now that they're in a bigger pot if the slugs leave them alone. The figs are stunning 👍The strawberries 🍓 🍓🍓 are a great deal. They got so expensive here.

    It’s a pity those who make the rules don’t have their heating allowance cut, but it’s all in the wording, ours is a benefit, theirs is an allowance, also known as what they see as an entitlement, many old people who are making the choice of heating or eating really have no choice, by the time they’ve bought food they can’t afford the heat to cook it, buying a few extras now that can easily be warmed up will help, also search charity shops for warm clothing and blankets, I hope we have a mild winter or there will be much sadness around.

    My Sainsburys never reduces to this level if you are lucky they bring it down by 20 or 30 pence . I find it better to pay full price in Aldi next door and it's still cheaper than the reduced in Sainsburys

    😢😢 I am so sorry for the fuel cut. I have been seeing shocking situations for the poor in the UK, and then getting furious at the UK Defense Minister pumping money into war preparations with the "Peace Dividend" being declared over. 😡 it is all manufactured profiteering. I had a rotten day yesterday. I got charged $16.50 by mistake by a checkout operator who refused to recalculate the bill when I queried it. 😢 It was all specials, so I cut my loss, and just paid because of the que. Then I arranged to meet my cousin at the War Memorial to see my Great Uncle's name projected in lights on the hall of memory (for dead soldiers). I got lost in the dark with all the construction works, gave up, parked elsewhere and tried to walk over the grass. Then, in the dark, I saw an entire mob of kangaroos jumping towards me 😮😮 fearing the attack I headed back to the car. We saw the honour. Then went to the pub. My cousin put her daughter on video call to talk to me. Then a lady got cranky and came over and yelled at me saying "It is a Restaurant" .. can't win some days.😂😂 I am trying to grow potatoes this year using leaf mulch we gathered in Autumn so will let you know the results. I read somewhere that leaf mulch was the best in an experiment so we will see. 😊😊 Belinda

    The cancellation of fuel assistance benefits is not good news for those struggling. Socialist policies are always a disaster for the lower incomes.😞 Bet your migrants will stay warm though. Nice job on the car.👍😀 I pay 2Xs what you pay for eggs and they're generic. Lovely fruit you found.😋 Happy gardening.🌻🌿🌱

      The lower income pensioners will still get the fuel allowance. Socialism benefits lower income people quite a bit actually, in the UK we don't have to worry about huge medical bills and pensioners medications are free.

    • @JT-2012
      @JT-2012 Před měsícem +1

      @@chrysalis4126 That's true. I believe your taxes are higher though. We have no State tax in Florida. Sales tax is 7% on some items (not on food). Our personal Federal tax is only 10-12%. Sadly, we're paying over $700 a month for health insurance.😬

      Unfortunately, a lot of pensioners just won’t claim it even if entitled. The forms are incredibly complicated and I suspect will put many off.
