AFFORDABLE and DURABLE TENT for SOLO CAMPING? | Robens Arrow Head 1 Man Tent Review

  • Is it possible to find an affordable and durable tent? Here is a complete and extensive review of the Robens Arrow Head 1 person tent. We bought this tent because we were curious about if it keeps the standards of a good quality solo tent even if it's a cheap tent. We have both camping in it in several weather conditions but we haven’t used it as much as many of our other tents that we make reviews of.
The Arrowhead is a tunnel tent and is pretty lightweight but it's not an ultralight solo tent. This is a good tent for someone who wants to start with outdoor life and go camping or has a limited budget.
We can’t say this is the best affordable backpacking tent but the conclusion is that Robens ArrowHead gives you a lot of bang for your money!

My brother just bought one of these for his first backpacking tent, £85 here in the UK at the moment. Excellent value 👍

Hi Matti, got mine about 2 years ago. Used it in all weathers. Robens is a much under rated manufacturer. On occasions when I used to use my Rab Ridge Raider, or my trustee Pheonix Phreeranger this tent has taken over. Its quick to set up and drop. Makes a difference when you have that trust when the hoolie is blowing on the Brecons. Enjoy your vids, Loved working in the Arctic when I was in the Marines. One of the best places on the planet.

    Hi!
I have the voyager 2ex and the boulder2. I know the weigh a bit, but value for money is top dollars! Right now the voyager2ex is on the 4 day with constant rain. Not a drop of moist inside! I would easily recommend this tent for anyone starting their camping journey. It is a sure deal and safety for a small sum in the tent jungle🥰👍

I picked up this tent for 90 euro and planned to use it for biking holidays. I love the fact that it's such a rain resistant material. There are two things that really turned me off from using this tent much. First of all it's 300 grams heavier than the already hefty weight that Robens states. I guess they 'forgot' to weigh the pegs and bows that come with the tent. More serious is the ventilation problem. The first time I tried the tent it was raining a little. When I closed the tent I almost suffocated. It turned out I had forgotten to fix the ventilation opening at 4:50 so it was closed. You are right in stating that the mesh and mosquito window are not enough for having good ventilation. I decided to sleep with an opened inner tent zip but to my surprise there was still quite some condensation at the inner side of the outer tent the next morning.
For 90 euro it's worth keeping the tent but had I paid the full current price I would definately been disappointed. It's main strength is the water resistance and maybe the wind resistance being a tunnel tent, but otherwise there are a lot better tents out there if you save up a bit.
You did well warning for carbon monoxide poisoning. Almost no one is aware of that risk. A closed environment with little ventilation is a high risk environment for carbon monixide and you'll never know it's happening.

Very good demo, with this tent,...👍 Thanks for making us all rethink our very products we already own, to make them better. It's a win, win for everyone. 😁

Hello, I have used this tent for about a year or to be more specific 4 times... I love it for its small size when you put it up. You can really nestle into tight spaces. It is however really small inside. I am 1.70 and when having a sleeping mat and a roll.. there is no room to situp, also I actually find it hard to fit my sleeping mattress into it, just fits. But value for money - wow. I would not take it into crazy conditions.

The reason for this behavior when becoming whet is that this fabric is PU-Coated on the inside.
That also is the reason why it is heavier than high end tents which are made from silicone coated fabrics. Additionally there is this effect of pu-coating coming loose after sone time of usage - most people know this effect from the „flakes“ older backpacks show on their inside.

Excellent review Matti! I have a Robens Outpost low camping bed and I think that will fit inside this tent. I usually do winter camping and I wonder that can you remove the inside moskito net part from the tent? How much is the tent weights without the moskito net?

    Nice review! Thanks!
I have a 64 cm Exped mat - it won't fit in just barely, right?
The specs say the width is 65/50 cm - it is very thight - don't you touch the inner constantly?

The configuration of this tent is similar to the Hilleberg Nallo. I especially like that the inner & outer get pitched simultaneously, NOT having to deal with a fly when Mother Nature is blowing gusty winds.
I agree, the attachment points for guy lines is a weak point & likely to come back to cause problems for the owner when the tent has been pitched during gusty windy weather conditions.
I've read the replies & was hoping someone would say something about their experiences with this tent.
HOT (forecast today is 105ºF - 40.5ºC) Regards from Reno, Nevada U.S.A.

Used it it in all weathers in the UK, Lakes, Brecons all year round. It about the price point though, it is not an expensive tent so there is a comprimise. Im an ex soldier so have lived rough in the field, so trust me this kit is comfortable for the price.

If a solo tent is more expensive than a tarp and some tent poles, then I'd go for the absolute cheapest I can find, preferably non-brand, and then bring my fjellduken, and extra rope. Then I have an xtra bottom, or top for the tent, and I also have a night-compartment for all my luggage outside the tent. Absolutely no point in making an investment in some insane solution from the bigger brands here.

The trouble with Robens is their customer service is dreadful and their warranty is not worth the paper it is written on.I had a Robens Starlight 2 the pole broke after 2 weeks and the tensioning straps were the wrong way around but the company told me those faults were my responsibility to sort out.I like the design but would never buy another of their tents again!
