    Judy said this was Lorna's favorite song of hers because 'it was the loud one'. She'd bring her up on stage when she sang it xoxo

      In parts she definitely sounds totally like Judy but unfortunately you can hear too that she's struggling some, could be that something has affected her voice or maybe she hasn't trained for some time.

    I think that Lorna is great in many ways. She does not have the successful career of Judy or Liza but I do believe that she has a much happier family life. I think that is the choice that Lorna made and that she is very happy with her life.

    Lorna was a great singer, but hardly a legend. But she doesn't have to be be. She's proven herself as a great entertainer. If only people would stop comparing her to Judy or Liza, because they're obviously in a completely different league.

      RIGHT!!! Appreciate people for what THEY have to offer. We are so unfair to talent sometimes with all of our "They're not this person...They're not that person". Lorna Luft is Lorna Luft. That's good enough for any legit music lover. She's good!!!

    Before her voice started fading, and the horribly sad health issues of recent years, Lorna could hit every note, could climb through that impressive range and seemingly 'nail' every Judy song she took on. There were a great many years too, where vocally she could run circles around her famous sister too. But that elusive magic that Judy and Liza have, that plummy rich sound or that smokey rasp, Lorna just doesn't have. She has always sounded like the best wedding singer money could afford, but a legend? No.

    it took me forever to realize what always drove me nuts with Lorna's singing. She has two very different voices/styles of singing, not one sound that screams Lorna Luft. When Lorna belts she has the voice she was given, but when she is not belting she has this very lounge/cabaret singer, not the high-quality energetic sound her belt voice has. Lorna at some point in her life should have taken voice lessons to either merge the sound together or totally get rid of the tired lounge singer sound and learn to sing better stylistically in the quieter moments. Judy had Roger (if you listen to Judy's 1925 thru 1937 recordings there were some interesting sounds/wy she pronounced/sang certain words) that did not sound like Judy. Liza had Fred, and if you listen to liza during the early thru the middle 1960s there were times she was all over the place vocally. Lorna while is still a good singer, did not have that advantage of coaching style training.

      @Nick Xero I have always liked never loved Liza the way I do Judy, but in recent years and all the stuff on youtube, I have found myself profoundly in admiration of the sheer scope and quality of her work. One of my favorites was her take on Gordon Lightfoot's "If you could read my mind" combining that with the song from the show "On a Clear day". One quality that Liza inherited (that is due to her being both Judy and Vincent's child) is understanding how to see and surround yourself with people who will help you become the best version of yourself. Kander and Ebb were to Liza what Roger (Edens) was to Judy, and they both thrived under their guidance.

      JUDY GARLAND AT HER VOCAL PEAK has no peer and I am including some of the best like Babs, Ella, Billie etc. Some may disagree that these weren't her peer and that's fine. Especially live at Carnegie Hall in 1961 her singing was otherworldy. THE GREATEST female entertainer of the 20th Century,without a doubt!

  • @geoffreyfox9801
    @geoffreyfox9801 Před 2 lety +1

    I don't understand all the criticism of Lorna. Lorna is Lorna. Lorna is a terrific singer and entertainer. In my opinion, she should have had a much bigger career. However, Lorna seems to be a loving happy person who is loyal to her family and friends. She doesn't need to be Judy or Liza. I like them all. To be fair, even Judy and Liza reached a point where they could not be Judy or Liza anymore either! For heaven's sake, stop the comparison and the sniping. If you like Lorna fine. If you don't fine. At this late date, Lorna doesn't need anyone's permission or approval to sing or perform.

  • @markwhitman9029
    @markwhitman9029 Před rokem

    I disagree with many of these negative comments about Lorna. Firstly, NO ONE and I mean NO ONE can top Judy at vocal peak and singers shouldn't even attempt it. Liza was GREAT in her prime and Lorna was very good also. BUT Lorna sang this song too much like Judy did and should have interpreted it another way that didn't mimic her mama! To those who said Lorna couldn't sing well they have a tin ear.

    Lorna, as with Liza, is a brilliant artist and has the presence of Judy. But Lorna can't sing this in the way Judy can. But a great rendition of it. Judy songs are sung by Judy and no one else. Only her daughters are the closet to get to her standard no matter how difficult it is for them to do. But fab job to Lorna. She sounds like Judy here in part

Everything we have for her is red - halter, blanket, feeding bowl, water buckets. Even her name on her stall door was specially made in red letters. Some people would say I'm making a mockery of Judy but if you knew how much I loved my horses you would know that I named her Judy Garland out of love and respect for the real Judy.

    omg lol Her music definitely doesn't come from her soul--she is all about trying to BE something....being a belter, singing LOUDLY, holding notes, growling, etc., completely forgetting to tell the story which is the heart of the song! Unfortunately, audiences cannot be fooled: there is a formidable difference between being sung TO and being sung AT. Nothing is natural, and nothing flows--she rips into the music like a steamroller with cleats!

    Neither of the daughters got a shred of the mother's vocal talent. Both always sounded like second-rate imitations of the mother. Like parodies trying too hard to sing like the mother.
    But both were good at comedy, which is what they both should have gone into.
    Here, Luft totally butchers the tune. She's off key for most of the song.

      No way, no way. I disagree. :(
      Young Liza sang well, but her upper register was limited, and sometimes when she hit high notes, she screeched. Her belting wasn’t always on point, and I’ve seen performances where she struggled.
      But Judy’s voice, at least until 1964, was rich, melodic, powerful and emotional. She was the best singer, and while her daughters were both talented, no one could match Judy’s talent.

    Judy Garland is my favorite singer and Liza's my second favorite. Lorna could sing 20-25 years ago but now she's AWFUL!!!! She sings off-key all the time and she NEVER had the magic of Judy or Liza.She needs to quit singing.Plus I resent that all she ever does is talk about Judy and sing her songs-BADLY!!!!! If she didn't base everything she does around Judy she's have NO career.That's the difference between her and Liza.
