    Thanks for a really useful video :)
    I just did this job and used your video for reference.
    I had some problems with the 3 nuts holding the exhaust to the catalytic converter because they were rusted away so badly that a spanner or socket wouldn’t fit and they would have probably sheared off anyway. But there is enough access to get a dremel type tool with small cutting disc in there and working very carefully with a small chisel and dremel I finally got them off without damaging the studs. The nuts were replaced with stainless.
    I had soaked everything with Plus Gas penetrating oil several times in advance knowing this job was approaching so that probably helped, also some of the nuts got a good blowtorching before I attempted to undo them.
    Aligning the subframe to tighten the 4 bolts back up was guesswork, it moves around quite a lot as the rack is wrestled out. It would probably be a good idea to mark it’s position before undoing the 4 bolts.

    You made that look really easy which I'm sure it's not. Many thanks for the video though that really helped a great deal. There's virtually nothing on the internet about this job and I've got parts on order. So thanks again and best regards.

      Hi there kjaques, thank you for the positive comments. To be honest, the video makes it look easy, but it was the first time I'd undertaken this job so found it quite difficult. Nevertheless, it is one of those jobs that once done, I'm pretty sure the next time it is much easier.

      @@whatudoingrandad229 Lets hope you don't have to do it again any time soon ;0)
      I certainly hope I don't have to but I'm wanting to keep the car for a good few years yet, she's still a good little runner. Just a bit reluctant to let any bolts go which is er....interesting. ;0)
      I'm estimating a genuine 45 minutes of harsh language per bolt removed ha ha. Thanks again .

    just done it on a 1.3 combo,,, its easier if you remove the arms and fit them after all i can say is give everything a good soaking with penetrant first
    i was unable to drop the exhaust but i did most of what you did,,
    the hardest part was the rh rack bolt,, the rubber cover and accessibility is pretty tight,, rally hard to get the bolt in,,, but easier to get out with no arms on,, on the combo it was fouling the gearbox selector bracket,,
    without arms it came out,,
    so thanks for a pretty decent vid,, it was very very useful!

    so i have a 2004 Corsa C
    my steering is heavy so i assumed that the steering column had an electrical issue until i took the cover off and looked under the dash, only to find that it had a normal, non electric black steering column, like there's no motor, no sensor nothing, just a plain steering column going down to the steering rack.
    my question is, can i replace it with an electric one? and would it work? like i fit an electric steering column and hook it up to the car and it will make my steering wheel easy again?

    My powered steering wont hold the fluid? How long is the job to replace the rack? Thinking of cost? I can pick up a rack for £100 or so? Thanks great video.

      @whatudoingrandad229  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi there Nidge on Tour, to be honest, the time taken will depend on how experienced you are. If you are pretty experienced you should be able to get it done in between 2 and 4 hours. Nevertheless, if you are more of a novice I would give yourself the full day. Hope this helps and thank you for the positive comment.

    • @whatudoingrandad229
      @whatudoingrandad229  Před 5 lety +2

      Sorry, I just noticed your question about cost. Your rack for £100 seems too much in my opinion. If you are working on the Corsa C or D you should be able to get a reconditioned rack for not more than £50 to£60.

    Just to confirm, the flat section of the pinion which the bolt passes through, does that face the front or rear of the car?

    • @whatudoingrandad229
      @whatudoingrandad229  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi there ash 2990, thanks for your question. If I remember correctly I am sure it faces towards the driver. You have to appreciate though, that I have only done this job once and uploaded it for information purposes. As you are sliding the old rack out, take note of which way it comes out and return the new one in accordingly. I apologise that I cannot be more specific about this but it has been a while since I did the job. Thanks - Kasjoy.
