This is great stuff. But one disclaimer for people: Stazon inks are very hard to clean vs. other inkpads. I would really caution picking them and personally favor pigment or dye inkpads. Unless you are planning to stamp on plastic or glass, you don’t need Stazon.
And, just a note, if you think it's no big deal because there is a StazOn Ink Cleaner, please beware: the StazOn Cleaner is not recommended for photopolymer/acrylic stamps. It apparently can break them down.
I have found that I can clean gunky StazOn ink off with rubbing alcohol - I use the little square pads that are premoistened in single use packages. And I always make sure to wipe off with plain water when I'm done.
"Stays on" is what I always think when I see it
I am into rubber stamping and scrapbooking for more than 20 years and I don‘t use StazOn ink pads at all. First, they stain the stamps but they also harm your stamps, especially photopolymer (clear) stamps. And never ever use StazOn cleaner with your photopolymer stamps. Avoid silicone stamps (usually poor quality), photopolymer is better. But red rubber is even better than photopolymer. Invest in good quality stamps and inkpads to get crisp stamp images. And stamp images can be coloured with any kind of colour, even pencils (like Faber Castell Polychromos). My personal favourite ink pad is Tsukineko Mememto Tuxedo black as it is a real pitchblack ink.

@@12thdominion memento ink pads come in various colours and two different sizes (full size and the mini size (‚dew drops‘). Start with one in Tuxedo black or a other neutral color and another dew drop in your favourite colour. Of course there are other great companies as well, but usually the ink pads and stamps you‘ll get at toy store will not lead to great results. There are different kind of ink pads (dye inks and pigment inks and hybride inks, which is a mix of dye and pigment). Pigment inks will dry very slowly on surfaces (or not at all except you‘ll heat emboss them). Dye inks come in waterproof and water soluble versions. The memento is quite water proof but not the best for aquarell coloring (if I want to use my water color pencils to color my images I use the Versafine stamp pad). As you can see, there are a lot of options what you can do with stamps 😉

Another great technique is the ‚kissing technique‘. You‘ll need two stamps (one detail one and one more solid stamp image). Ink your solid stamp and then, before stamping onto paper, stamp the (uninked) detail one directly on the solid one. This will remove ink from the solid one. After that, Stamp the solid stamp onto paper… it is similar to your toothpick idea, but without the risk of damaging your solid stamps…
When we were kids, if the whole stamp didn't come out dark we thought we did it wrong. Now, it's called gradient. Who knew that our mistakes back then would be artistic now. Hahaha
If you are thinking of using your own pens/inks, I don't think they emphasized enough that you want to use WATER-BASED markers. You cannot use alcohol based markers on stamps - this includes Sharpies - because they won't transfer off the stamp onto your paper.
If you want to use a "waterproof" or "permanent" ink for an image, make sure it's specially designed for stamping.
My favorite tip was removing ink off of a solid stamp with a toothpick, pure genius!
Another tip when using the water based markers directly on stamps: if the ink has started to dry on the stamp, hold it near your mouth and exhale closely over the stamp to moisten your design again before pressing down on the paper. Especially useful if you are using a larger stamp or one with many details/different colors which took you a long time to complete.
I like to use post-its to mask off areas. For example, in making a floral bouquet. Stamp on a post-it with the flower stamp and cut it out. Stamp
flower on paper, then mask the image (cover it with post-it cutout) so that another flower can be stamped next to it. The mask will allow the second stamp to blend into the bouquet because part of th😊e second stamp will be on the mask.

Another idea is the ‚second generation stamping‘. If your ink pad is too dark, stamp the image off onto a piece of scrap paper, like a sheet of printer paper, and then stamp it into your planner. This second images will be much lighter. With this technique you can double the amount of colored ink pads you have. Or with very dark inkpads you can do a third generation stamping- just stamp two times off 🙂
To #5 technique (coloring with markers): you don‘t need more pressure, that tends often into a unwanted halo. Just breathe onto your stamp before stamping, the moisture in your exhalation will work better than more pressure.

My recommendation is to put wax paper under any and all stamping projects you're working on. When you're done, just throw the wax paper away. Your work surface stays clean - no need to worry about staining/ruining it!

Some interesting ideas! Although whoever is stamping is putting too much pressure on the stamps - the design is getting distorted because the edges of the design are also being pressed down, plus there's too much ink on many of the stamps. To properly stamp, just cover the surface of the design (try not to get ink down the sides of the design) then stamp firmly, with even pressure but not hard enough to push the stamp so that the edges of the design squish onto the paper.
Never had the money to buy the clear stamps and inks so i just make them with foam sheets, also a fun thing, first few covid months were busy lol

Did I know I could use stamps to make repeating patterns? [aka Did you know you could use a stamp more than once?] Yes. Yes, I did. In fact I think that’s that whole point of stamps, to make the same image more than once. Just sayin’! [To be fair, she did say “repeating patterns” and not “repeated images” but I don’t think it’s a huge intellectual leap to get from one to another. Is it?]
I enjoyed the video as an advertisement that had a lot of visually appealing things in it. I think I might have to get some of those dot pens (though I’m more intrigued by the new brush tip Midliners… I’ll have to go to their site and see if they have them). I had already seen (and own many of) most of the products shown. I love all MU products, from their rub-on stickers to they’re round acrylic stamp “blocks” (which you wouldn’t think could be so beautiful, but they are). Possibly my favorite product of theirs (although they are hard to find) are their sticker books (not the ones with clear envelope-type pages which are better for storing whole sheets of their rub-ons -and other things like postcards, most of which fit really nicely) with binder rings and 5 double-sided pages (refills are also available) that you can use to put in your unused rub-ons or any stickers (with backings on!!) -or little pieces of paper, such as things you have stamped and fussy cut out to paste into a collage or journal page later, which I sometimes do, or any bits of ephemera. So useful to be able to see your collection! The pages have a lightly sticky surfaces to hold your items in place, with clear sheets that go over them. These albums are like a smaller version of the photo album I used to store my sticker collection as a child- I love them! “MU Journal Supplies Stockbook” is what they say (in small letters that compliment the design and don’t get in the way of the peeks of color from your first page) on the cover - which is translucent white and the same kind of plastic used for washi tape sample cards, which is very useful for storing washi tape and/or sticker “flakes” you have cut out of washi tape (I use both sides of the back for that because I like seeing my first page showing through on the front)- and the slogan (I’m not sure that’s the appropriate term?) “Make Up Your Life” which is a great sentiment (and I usually hate “sentiments” or “affirmations” that so many stamp and sticker companies come out with or include with other stamps… I find them depressing, which is the opposite of their purpose… is it just me?). I hope JetPens get these albums in, although I bought mine directly from MU and I probably won’t need more for years since I bought 4 books and 4 refill packs (possibly 5… I can’t remember… I was so excited to find a way to get them! Lol!). They are *very* reasonably priced (at least for now). Anyway, the MU stamps are adorable and the packaging is lovely with great examples of how you can combine them (I haven’t figured out a good way of storing them yet, especially since I want to keep the packages, but I have them on those single metal loops that open and close-I can’t remember what they are called-and that’s fine for now!). Their products are all numbered, so if you are a completionist (someone who likes to collect things and get the complete selection), be warned! Lol!
As for other things, I love those tree stamps so much, but I have all the supplies for stamp carving and the designs look so easy to carve (especially the solid shapes) that I can’t justify buying them rather than make my own version. However, if you don’t carve stamps those look really great!
I didn’t learn anything new, except the part about removing ink with a “toothpick” (Do Not use the pointy end of anything on your stamps!) which is a great tip and really made the video worthwhile as something other than an advertisement and eye candy! Sadly, there was nothing “INSANE” as the title suggests (I’m still wondering how insane one can get with rubber stamps… stamping all over your face before going to the grocery store? IDK)

JetPens is a really great company, in my experience! I buy a LOT of different stationery products from different countries in Asia. It’s my biggest guilty pleasure. Japan used to be at the top of my list, but there are a number of Taiwanese designers coming out with things (I guess I’m mostly talking about washi tape) that are just gorgeous and/or cool. Lin Chia Ning is my favorite designer and she makes gorgeous stamps, paper products including stickers, rub-ons and washi tape (and just recently, the new PET tape which is amazing and a real game changer!) and wax seals which are now a whole new art medium/artistic endeavor of mine (her Instagram pages are exquisite!)! South Korea also has nice designers/products - and although unfortunately I only know English (and a tiny bit of French) like most Americans 🙄, I love the look of Korean characters-they have all of these tiny circles everywhere °) and I buy from a variety of retailers, mostly smaller shops on Etsy (note: if you find something you like on an Etsy shop, check to see if they also have their own website that you can buy from instead. Sometimes they will give you a 5% off coupon code to use on their own site, if you look through their Etsy pages information, but the real reason to buy directly is because the sellers are treated terribly by Etsy which charges them so much I don’t see how they make any profit. It’s so sad because the concept is so good and the site is really nice but they wouldn’t have a marketplace if not for the sellers! Buying that way will usually get at the very least a thank you note and very often some free samples, which is really nice to get in the mail! It feels like opening a gift. Of course the bigger a company gets, the less able they are to do that (JetPens doesn’t), but that’s totally understandable!
My last order from JetPens (I bought ALL of the SoRoNaMe fingertip ink pads shown in this video because I’ve wanted them for years since they were released only in Japan, but I waited too long so I was thrilled when I saw that they were making them again! The packaging is really well designed for storage and looks beautiful and really shows off each color palette, which are very original and were picked out by one of the most “famous” stamp carving artists in Japan) along with some other interesting things they had in stock, went really smoothly-I have no complaints! The prices were very good and the package came quickly and everything arrived in good shape.
Wow, this is a stupidly long comment that probably won’t be read by anyone, lol! Oh well! I guess this could lend credence to their promise of something “INSANE”. *shrug*
