This is a book review only, where I share my personal opinion and reaction to Prince Harry's
memoir "Spare". My review is subjective and my reactions are personal opinions, not facts! I only share a few brief phrases or very short direct quotes from the book in order to review it and illustrate a point. I do not "read the book" to you as that would infringe on the author's rightful copyright. After many years working with books I know how to do a review legally, One that encourages people to read the book for themselves and come to their own conclusions.

I can’t believe you got through this book twice. I have just finished his childhood part of the book and find him jealous of William/sibling rivalry and ptsd from losing his mom. He sounds very delusional and high at some points. Maybe he doesn’t accurately remember most of his life. Anyway, I have learnt from this book not to trust anything Harry says.
There's an old Italian saying Mehgan reminds me of,
“She wants to be the bride in every wedding and the deceased in every funeral.”

The obstetrician thing is something I've been saying since Oprah. Then in Spare we read that after falling on the dog bowl, Harry has his therapist on speed dial. Why didn't he call his therapist when his wife was suicidal? Why was a scuffle with his brother and falling on the dog bowl more traumatic than the threat of his wife's suicide? Does he even realize what rubbish he spouts?
it's because I do not believe that she wanted to kill herself.... all drama, self pity effect, histrionic personality, giving amber heard a run for the title!!

I’ve never believed that business about her being suicidal. (1) Of all people to call, she called the HR department?? (2) Harry couldn’t give her the number of his own therapist? (3) I can’t believe that anybody would say to her, we can’t help you. Nobody would do that. None of it makes any sense.
If another woman asked to "borrow" my lip gloss, I would let her know the hygiene implications of such behavior and not hand it over. If I felt forced to comply with the request lest a refusal end up as an ugly story in a book, I would definitely cringe as I watched a woman wipe across her lips something that had been wiped across mine. I have literally never heard of such an unhygienic request being made among educated women. WTH?

Whole Foods in Kensington does not sell tabloids! Even if they did, this outing took place on 10th November, Meghan did not feature on the cover of any tabloid on this date which can be verified
And Kensington has many celebs and rich people I don't think they would go crazy on seeing MM 😅

10th of November. Wasn't that the same night as the Service of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall when they showed up late and she thought the applause was for her when in fact it was in appreciation for some part or people in the service? She looked very happy and delighted with life ..not distraught and close to suicide just hours before. In fact far from it.
The only reason Meghan would be sobbing is when she has been out without anybody noticing she was there.

Spot on Marja this is the woman who is craving for spotlight and publicity and want everybody to notice her when she goes out! We all know that she wasn't a public figure and nobody knew her existence until she met Harry! Kate on the other hand would go and shop in the high street shops and imaging she comes home and complain William about people looking at her and taking photos of her!
LOL. I used to live in London and cannot imagine that happening at the Whole Foods there. There is a photo of her returning from Whole Foods and nobody is chasing her. She is casually walking home. Likely she called one pap herself.
The "crying on the floor" scenes were staged for Harry's benefit, and he was stupid enough to buy it. The suicide threat is a classic narcissist ploy for attention. My mother was a narcissist and she did the same thing when she was not getting her way with my dad. BTW, my mother never took her own life and years later when I asked her about it, she brushed it off saying she was upset. I've known 2 other people who committed suicide and neither threatened to do so beforehand.
There’s also a moment in Meghan’s podcast when she’s talking to Constance Wu and MM says that she wishes she “could cry and sob but she just can’t, she’s been conditioned to not”! She’s not smart enough to lie as much as she does, she can’t keep up!
Very much the same act with what Diana always did. Screaming then cried bitterly in places where the kids can actually saw her. Harry bought M constant crying on the floor as it reminded him of his "mummy"

Like the claimed that the Palace took her passport - yet she can flew all over, and had that VIP baby shower. She is such a stupid liar!!!
I had the same thing happen to me - I was pregnant with my 4th, my husband was out of town. I was working full time and I was just a bit momentarily overwhelmed when I went in for a checkup.
My OB had me on insurance approved bed rest the very next day, she called my mother before I left her office to make sure a family member was available to stay with me until my husband came home, she called my home that night and the next day.
There’s NO WAY an OB with such a high profile candidate would not have picked up on any depression/self harm thoughts.
I will call BS on Meghan’s story. Why? Because she told Oprah and Harry (and the world) the reason she didn’t go through with it was because “Harry had already suffered enough.”
Yeah - because that’s exactly how pregnant women think.
The whole “self harm” story is just another page out of the Diana playbook that Harry is too stupid to figure out
Cheechalker MM does not seem to appreciate that her lies have undermined her credibility .She complains about the lies told about her but it is not necessary to tell lies when you can normally just point out factual inaccuracies in her stupid stories. I wonder how long it will take for this woman to understand perpetual victimhood is just tedious .

A prince of the UK writes a book about lip gloss & lame hugging like its a world crisis & his revelations like the equivalent of making a serious statement about economics & world governance. I immediately fell on the floor sobbing in a heap at the nearest doorway when I heard it so someone, anyone, would walk in & find me taking this with the seriousness it deserves

When in Balmoral the late Queen was regularly seen locally. When walking in the grounds of Windsor she again was seen by various people. When William was a paramedic helicopter pilot Katherine used to go shopping in the local supermarket. In all cases the family were given the respect and privacy they deserved, so why was Meghan personally chased? I rest my case.

I haven't looked at the Okra show, the NF reality show or read Harry's diatribe Whaagh, but I read that he said when they were still in the UK and she was "suicidal", he would wake up and find her "silently crying" in bed because she didn't want him to know how unhappy she was, and the first thing I thought was, why doesn't Harry realize that SHE woke him up so that he could find her "crying"?

I used to live very close to that Whole Foods. They do not have rows of tabloids on display; its not that kind of store in aestethics or attitude. The other thing about living or working in central London (I used to work at Harrods) is the fact that you see famous people relatively frequently; that Wholefoods would undoubtedly had people more famous than Meghan was at that point as 'regulars' and it wouldnt be tolerated for them to melt down every time a famous or infamous figure walked through the door.

Having spent considerable time in Kensington and I know the Wholefoods store, the description about people looking at her and videoing her sounds very unlikely. People in Kensington are very blasé when it comes to seeing celebrities and famous people walking around because plenty live in that area and are regularly seen. They are left alone and no one bats an eyelid. It’s insulting to people in the UK. Shes good at fictional drama…

During her pregnancy Meghan refused to use the Queen's doctors and hand picked her own Obgyn team, but she's telling us she wasn't allowed to find a mental health specialist? Mmm....
Megham is a manipulator, at least to the dimmest light bulb in the box, Harold. I can't pinpoint when I began to see her for what she is, but I think it was the time around the wedding. The cruelty to her father, the tiaragate and when she was mean to a 4 year old little girl. It's amazing that most people took so long to see through her. Thanks for your clever insights on the book .
The lack of friends at the wedding was also a red flag.
For me it was when they were visiting a help centre for sex workers in Bristol and she started writing 'motivational' messages to the sex workers on bananas. Alarm bells went off!

I work in healthcare and with midwife’s, she will have been asked about her mental health at every appointment, it’s a requirement of our assessment, who remember the video of princess Catherine hugging her midwife when she seen her in a crowd? Because you build up a relationship with them and trust them. It makes me so angry that she lies and is never accountable 😢
She wouldn't have seen any midwife or doctor. The surrogate would have though. Allegedly 🫣

All the stories in Spare have a distinct cinematic quality, including the characterizations of both Harry and Meghan as perpetual misunderstood victim trapped in a cold, cruel world of the institution being "saved" by heroine Meg, the warm, "magical", whimsical dream girl who communes with nature and sings with seals. It's all very melodramatic and Disney/Rom-Com styled, which makes me think it's just the story or fairytale they want to create, but very little of it is based in reality. Spare is basically set up in the same carefully curated way as Instagram with the hopes of pulling in the dimwits who want to believe it's all real.

The Whole Foods scene must have been in her dreams of grandeur. I cannot comment on the Kensington location, but in the US, Whole Foods does not carry tabloids at all. The magazines they sell are focused on nutrition and health. People standing in line typically do not look at who is standing behind them. That is part of human nature. I also got really annoyed by her "my way or highway" attitude. She has no clue that British people are not huggers, at least with complete strangers. She tried to blame William and Catherine for being cold but, instead, exposed her lack of manners and understanding of cultural differences.
Was this during the time when she was hired by USA Cable Co. while they were filming "Suits in Toronto Ontario? If so, there are American "Tabloids" at the checkouts of all of the Grocery stores, and Drug Stores here in Canada (imported = $$$) If it was in Australia, or in the UK , I wouldn't know -- there are as many "Kensingtons" in the Commonwealth, as there are Londons, Windsors, and Stratfords.
You have to remember the majority of the public at that time didnt have a clue who she was and she wasnt in the tabloids that week , so how could this be? , and if one person recognised her in the supermarket that would be a stretch, im calling bs on this imo

I honestly never heard of Meghan Markle until last year. I mean, I knew about the other royal wedding, but I didn't really care about it enough to even learn the name of the bride.
Obstetrician. I lived in the Australian outback when I was pregnant with my second child. I was alone many times, looking after a toddler, nearest neighbours lived 15 minute drive away, still riding horses to move cattle and I simply didn’t have time for tears and suffering. Good grief - what a drama queen.
MeGain was on the floor crying AFTER she cooked the dinner she got from Whole Foods..I find that part the most ridiculous 😂

I can understand both Prince William and Catherine both slightly recoiling as a gushing over hyped manic enthusiasm rushed at them for an inappropriate embrace. And why would anyone ask to borrow another person's lip balm? It's unhygienic.

I wouldn't be happy if someone asked to borrow mine either, but like Catherine, I would probably do it to save embarrassment. If Catherine made a face after maybe she had a second dip, that would be gross. Some people have no boundaries and clearly the wife doesn't.

This is Wholefoods in Kensington....they have all manner of rich, powerful and famous people going in there all the time. Kensington is a very exclusive area. They are used to famous people and Royalty being in the area and doing their shopping. This is not some backwater place that have never seen a celebrity. So, I think this scenario being put forward, is highly unlikely and basically, improbable. This seems to come from the realms of complete fantasy, in my opinion.
You hit the nail with the hammer. I cannot see Meghan being bothered by cameras. She loves being recognized. She has got Harry spinning in circles. Yes, she always seemed able to produce tears when Harry was walking in the door of their home.
Exactly. She was a 35 yr old actress and wannabe-famous Hollywood type. Hard to imagine cameras or attention would have traumatized her or left her sobbing on the floor. If so, she certainly had picked the wrong profession.
I think you're missing the point about Meghan being bothered by cameras. She loves cameras, sure, but she wants to be in control of the narrative -- remember when she went nuts that people were taking pictures of her at Wimbledon?? -- and she wants to get paid for the pictures. If the market is flooded w amateur shots of Meghan, then she can't charge the big bucks for access...
As has already been mentioned, they do not sell newspapers. Kensington is also very used to famous people and do not react. Perhaps one but certainly not. There also photos of her walking back to Kensington gardens (where Nottingham Cottage is) and she’s smiling happily as she strolls along. She arranged the shots and has been called out for it, so this story is to try and put the blame on others.
So ridiculous!

I think Catherine's reaction to being asked for the loan of her lip gloss by a virtual stranger was perfectly normal, who wants to share such a hygeine dependant item with anyone unless they're really close family or longstanding close friends ? Not me, that's for sure.

By all accounts, you are courageous to have been able to read the book once, let alone twice. Calm review, without sensationalism.
You are spot on. I noticed the dramatics of the book. I can’t imagine bawling my eyes out and being at the front door of my apartment. One tends to want to hide when crying so much. She should’ve written in the book: “Harry found me crying on the floor of my closet.”--em, I meant to say that Meghan should’ve written: “I looked for Meghan all around our mini cottage. No signs of her. ‘Where is she? She didn’t tell me she would go out. Where is my Meghan’ and then I heard sobs. I went to find her and saw her on the floor of her closet with a towel on her hair. So fragile and still so beautiful. I wanted to protect her.”-she should’ve written something along those lines. Otherwise, it was truly pathetic to cry at the entrance. She has seen The Princess Diary too much. Actually, Harry’s book is written in diary format really.
There is a photo of M walking on the street, carrying an anti-poverty bag, dressed as described. Very close to one of the newspaper offices & Kensington Palace I believe. There was a reporter & a photographer outside taking a break, and allegedly watched M walk back & forth on the sidewalk, intentionally - in their opinion - trying to be papped. As there are now quite strict rules around photographing the Royals (even girlfriends as H had put out that statement about leaving M alone) outside of them doing their official duties, & the journalist/paper can be penalised by the Palace if they break the rules (eg refusing that paper access to coverage of Royal events - hello Omid Scobie of Yahoo News who has no access to the Royal Rota yet somehow is the Royal Correspondent for Yahoo News (he broke a press embargo among other things), they didn’t want to take the photos that they felt she clearly wanted taken. Eventually, however, the photographer took a photo, & only after M had seen this photo be taken did M then proceed to go to the front entrance of the palace, even though she was allegedly aware of a secure private entrance. The reporter & journalist were highly bemused by the whole affair.
M also claimed in the Oprah interview that she was unable to leave the house for 4 months while pregnant with Archie. Andrew Morton & other Royal journalists came forward to say that she was regularly seen at high-end restaurants with friends, coming out of beauty salons, & later traveled in private planes for holidays during this ‘period of incarceration by the Palace’.
If M was having mental health issues, why didn’t she reach out to her Dr’s, or speak to her Mother who is allegedly a mental health therapist? Also, did you note that H slipped up by saying that after his alleged fight with William that led to the broken necklace & his falling on the ceramic dog bowls, that a) he immediately rang his THERAPIST (so much for not having access), & b) in their own Netflix documentary they literally show pictures of the area where the dog bowls were (kitchen? -black & white patterned flooring), & both dog bowls were stainless steel.
Finally, no one can recall Harry ever referring to William as ‘Willy’ - it was either Wills or William. I’m sure you’ve already pointed this out, but calling William ‘Willy’ in this book is a literary device to associate William with penis (or other cruder terms). Little boys are often first taught to refer to their penis as their Willy, before graduating to referring to their penis. So mentally, many readers would have likely subconsciously associated William (Willy) as, essentially, a d**k.

In the Colbert show Harry included the name Willy when they were listing ways to refer to their penis.
At uni, for years I lived in shared accommodations with 5 other young ladies. We were all close and got on. No one ever shared cosmetics! No one! No one dreamt of asking anyone else for some of her lip gloss, lip balm, anything of the sort... One day the mum of a friend noticed that my lips were badly chapped in winter. This was in NYC; I was from California. She literally stopped what she was doing, walked to the nearest pharmacy on 5th Avenue and bought me my first tube of Blistex. She did not give me some of her own: it's just not done! And I never forgot that great lady's generosity, nor her thoughtfulness...

We actually watched her tell Oprah that the Royal family was racist then Harry backtracked and said no she didn't. That is just one very public lie. Enjoyed your video.

I think she told the court all her emails were deleted. They were not. She won the case anyway. It was over the paper publishing her letter to her father.

I didn't watch the whole interview; just clips here and there (the body language experts I subscribed to, had a field day with that). So I pulled a few and, as far as I can see, she DIDN'T _say_ "racist". It was all _implied only;_ reacting to Oprah when _Oprah_ used that word, by way of sighs, eyes rolling, deliberate pauses and meaningful nodding and such. Stage drama. It's true for all I could find that she never _said_ the actual words. I remember thinking how clever and sneaky that was. Everyone _understood;_ but you can't claim she _said_ it. -- This is the sanitized version. My _actual_ thoughts were downright unprintable.
Spot on! The Whole Foods one definitely sounds like fiction. Where was her security, why didn't anyone sell the photo to a tabloid? They think we came down in yesterday's rain.

I lived in West London for 10 years recently and no one takes photos of famous people in shops! It's pretty common to see A-listers browsing around in shops (some that I used to work in) and people generally pretend they haven't seen them. Even if they are on a magazine cover.

Regarding the Kensington Wholefoods thing. I think she was trying to emulate Catherine yet again. Once Catherine and William returned from their honeymoon and set up their first home in Wales (William was working for the RAF as a search and rescue pilot), photos appeared of Catherine shopping in the Waitrose store in Anglesey. I’m sure they came to an agreement with the press that her first ‘shop’ would be photographed because we didn’t see any photos of subsequent shopping trips. It wasn’t just a stunt though…Catherine really did do her own shop. I know because I passed her in the isle of the Tesco store (more downmarket than Waitrose) in Holyhead about a month later. There wasn’t a pap in sight.

To her credit she has been successful to changing this topic now to the royal family whose main crime was to ask both Harry and herself to reconcile with her family
2. It’s been widely reported that the whole foods store does not sell papers at all
She probably staged the only photo of herself on that day walking outside.
Britain is not America and she was probably disappointed that people were not acknowledging her in any shape or form
3. There’s no way she had a baby in Britain and was not screened throughout pregnancy for depression and post natal depression as part of standard care.

It has been confirmed elsewhere that Wholefoods in Kensington High Street does not sell any magazines or papers and never has. Also if there were so many people filming and taking pictures wouldn't they be all over social media and wouldn't they be prime examples for the mockumentary which spectacularly failed to produce any genuine evidence of harassment?

I find it quite weird that Meghan and Harry go on and on about paps and pictures being taken but none ever pops up online or in print. Where are all these pictures. I was too young to remember Diana's time but I remember there were tons of pictures of Kate early in her relationship with William. So where are all the pictures of Meghan? There should be TONS of pictures. We should be bombarded with her pictures on a daily basis if paps and normal people were after the Sussexes. But there are none. We have instagram today and Pintrest. Shouldn't those two platforms be filled with pap or people's pictures of Harry and Meghan? There aren't even CZcams videos of them out in public.

I’m from London. I go to Wholefoods in High St. Kensington often and they have zero newspapers there. They usually have snacks and hand creams near the checkouts. And I don’t know how much you know the British, but they don’t usually look to each other.

I think so. There’s a Sainsbury’s towards Hammersmith as well that you could walk, but Wholefoods is a lot closer to the palace.
That’s the one then because when Harry describes how to get there it is the closest one to the palace!
@@thevintageread There's a Marks & Spencers on High Street Kensington which has an escalator down to the food hall. So that could be the shop in question. But I don't think M&S sells many tabloids, or certainly wouldn't have rows of them. And as someone else has pointed out, Kensington is full of celebrities and no-one bats an eyelid when they see them.

In order to get help from an Obstetrician one has to be pregnant first , well at least that's how it's done, being a mum of three myself, and I've always wondered why her antenatal team never stepped forward to defend her or stop the rumours that Meg was dragged by her hubby to watch Cirque du Soleil instead of getting her help - after He "found her sobbing on the floor" , of course 🙄
She did not tell her obstetrician because she was never pregnant, she is 4-5 years older than what she states and used surrogate(s). And I also doubt whether she was ever suicidal.

Apparently Meghan went to HR for help and was told that they weren't the right people to approach as they are for the employees not for the family. I can see Meghan doing that just so that she could legitimately say that the family wouldn't help her. The USA uses different terminology for what different licenced therapists are called to the UK and Australia (they do have psychologists but it is doctorate level and the ones that are at masters level are the ones that we don't have) so it is also possible that she asked for something that they didn't know what she was asking for (big stretch but thought I would be generous with this one).
That she couldn't get help if she wanted/needed is crap, like you said each check-up she would have been asked. More to the point when Harry had the fight with William he said that the first thing he did was call his therapist, sorry he had a therapist on speed dial and couldn't work out how to get help for Meghan when she needed it. Doria worked as a social worker for a couple of years so she was another resource besides being a mother that she says she is close to.
The phone films( multiple phones!!) would have been quickly on air and out in the public …. So cynicism warranted!!!
I live in Greater London and I worked in South Kensington/Chelsea for some years, I've been to that wholefoods many times (definitely before 2020 I went a fair bit). I don't remember seeing any tabloids in there. When I worked in Chelsea, we would email our work crew with a Celebrity Spot email - people often saw Hugh Grant, Rowan Atkinson, Russell Crowe was spotted one time - there are big stars everywhere there, people don't make a fuss or film them.
Re Megan lying on the floor sobbing:- I wonder how many times Harry tripped over her when he came back with the groceries she'd sent him out for.

Shared use of makeuo is unsanitary, which may be why Princess Katherine recoiled. It's also generally considered rude to even ask someone to use their makeup. Considering who asked and kept pushing until she got the lip gloss, this bad behavior is no surprise.

Been in Whole Foods Kensington lots of times when i used to work around there at that time and have never seen tabloids on sale there. Also..lots of famous people around that area so no one really cares or takes notice. Also she went through a public entrance to kensington palace rather than the private entrance which is closer to Wholefoods. If she was being harrassed why wd she extend her walk and not just go through private entrance which is manned by police?
The lipgloss ask: I knew a “frenemy” who would ask to use personal items….and I had the feeling it was a test of some sort. I never saw this person willing to loan/do anything for others, but this was something she did to others. 🤔
