A Stomp Box is a great way to enhance your acoustic/solo gig.
When you play it it will immediately get people to turn their ears.
But which one is the best for you?
I’ve been through the same problem and a few boxes myself.
So here are my 2 cents
In the video I’m trying:
* Meinl Analog Stomp Box MPS1
* Meinl Stomp Box Kick STB1
* Roland SPD One Kick

Great video! Thank you!
Nice video man. Thanks!
Thank you! I made up my mind now :)
Good video mate
Very helpful
Sounded really cool
Thank You!
thanks man
thanx, that's useful :)
I bought and tried out the Meinl today, works pretty well with acoustic guitar, the option to just use it in the same signal path isn't for audiophiles, but it is a nice feature. Will probably put a rubber mat below it, cause it's not as sticky as I'd like it to be. That'll probably solve any rumbling noise issues.
Nice! I prefer the separate signals of guitar and stomp, but having the option of one path is really handy.
I didn’t have any rumbling issues but I understand it might be too slippery
Very helpful. Thank you.
hey paolo, great review! I needed to see a comparison between STB and SPD and you nailed every aspect, so thank you. Btw, great acoustic guitar sound, is it just the mic or is there a pickup ringing too? which taylor model is that? Cheers
Thanks a lot! The guitar is a 310 ce, the sound is just the mic and that is a Rode NT 2A
I'm planning to make a digital stompbox for a friend of mine. I worried about not being able to put several samples due to memory limitations, so I really apreciated your opinion, when you say something like 'one sample is enough'. Thank you very much. Hugs from Spain.
Thank you and Yes one sample is more than enough, make sure the sample is full sounding, I found that samples that with scooped eq don’t translate too well bless tha PA has a sub
I have been using two Roland SPD One Kicks for some time now. One for bass and the other for snare. They are reliable and sound fantastic. I put them just in front of the base of my mic stand to lift my legs while sitting. So my feet constantly rest on two of the three (foldable) pieces of the stand. Otherwise it would be impossible to use as a singer.
That is a cool hack, I’m going to see if it works standing up
@@PaoloMarelliGuitar Not a chance! Cannot use both feet at a time while standing.
For sure 😂 I meant for one feet, see if can substitute the rubber pad I use
@@PaoloMarelliGuitar Yeah, if so, glue some rubber pad on top of the foldable foot of the mic stand. Otherwise your foot will slide of easily.
Great demonstration! Super random but which Krk monitors do you have in the background? I need some smaller monitors and I like the size of those!
Thanks first of all!
The monitors are KRK VXT 4, they are 4 inches speaker.
Not sure they make them anymore I’ve had them for more than 10 years now ;)
Hey thanks for the great review! What's the plugin you use on ableton to turn the Meinl into a midi trigger?
I don't use it with the Meinl, but I used to use it with an old piezo stomp that I had and the plugin was DSP trigger, I never had consistent results though
Trying to use the spd kick through the line input on Roland AC33 amp, guitar through the guitar input. Any time I hit the SPD one my guitar volume drops. Can anyone help? Both the SPD and the amp are mains powered
I suspect that in this case it is the amp that is limiting.
Try and turn both guitar and stomp volume down, that should attenuate the limiting effect
I'd like tha Meinl STB 1. Can't get one, it's on backorder everywhere and even E-bay has none!
That’s a shame, I wish I could help but I have no affiliation with meinl
I could never get a consistant volume on the thump on the Roland Spd. Tried everything. strapping bits of metal to shoes, adjusting all the knobs. Ended up selling it.
I’m run it into a preamp plugin with a bit of compression and eq and that seems to do the trick. But I understand sometimes gear doesn’t work the way you need it to
What about the sensibiliti of mtb 1 meinl ? I have the impression I shoul push too much
Thanks
It has very good sensitivity, no need to push or stomp with your foot too hard. The centre circle is not a button, is just the pick up area
but can you tell us about the glitch in the matrix at 4:44?
😂that is just my bad editing!
Great Maurizio!
@@PaoloMarelliGuitar Scusa Paolo sbagliato nome! Grazie della risposta
Ah quindi servono le pile AA? Grazie
Ma figurati io pensavo fosse un esclamazione tipo Grande Giove! E si servono le pile AA
Would you still recommend the Meinl Kick for a simple, reliable stomp box over the Roland?
Sorry for replying this late, but yes I still recommend it. The Meinl Kick is easy to use and reliable.
the problem is there are two more parts to the mienl version... there is a kicker and a lift box
I need to have a look at those, thanks for pointing that out.
For the purposes of my video though the Meinl kick is more than usable by itself
Build your own...i do
Where do i got that foot support pad you showed for the Roland?
I took it off my old stomp box, it was a
Shadow Stompin´ Bass. But Is just a square piece of rubber
Just bought the STB1 on your recommendation, a bit disappointed as the button is very sensitive to the position of your foot, you have to work pretty hard to make sure you hit it actively the same way each time or the volume is drastically different. Obviously can’t comment on whether the other two are better for this but we warned, I’m not that impressed with the STB1.
Position is quite important on all the stomps I talked about, like any other instrument they need some technique. I personally don’t find it hard to play the STB1 but I find the fact that the are of triggering is small an advantage because it limits triggering it by mistakes.
But I understand that what I like might not be the same for others
Love it
But it really should cost $50
Which one?
