    I worked for 21 years as a professional tattoo artist in Sacramento, Hollywood, and las Vegas. I have Worked on, repaired, and rebuilt hundreds of tattoo machines in that time. they run on 2 electric magnets. they are fascinating reciprocal designs. I have a feeling you would find them intriguing. newer tattoo machines are going the way of rotary machines. btw, they are not called tattoo guns. it hurts my ears to hear them called that.

      The history of the tattoo machine is pretty cool too. It was a modified design from the "electric pen" invented by Edison.

      You have me thinking of those Wagner piston head spray paint guns . In the end I liked the effect of just painting my cars or vans by paint brush using top quality oil based house paint .

    Faraday himself admitted that his 'motor' was useless except as a scientific demonstration. There's a rather famous quote from him regarding it, expressing that even though the motor was of no immediate use he believed that the principles it demonstrated held the potential for great practical advancements. He was right too.

    For the longest time I didn't understand the actual meaning behind a "magnetic circuit". It wasn't until I came across the "Keeper" and the idea of Reluctance (and permeability) and that the magnetic lines of force actually tend to travel the path with the least amount of Reluctance, that the idea began to make sense to me.
    This video is a really great reminder of that whole learning process. Thank you for making it.
    Re: That Inn Engine... does it have a roller bearing where the "piston" meets the surface? Also, you will likely need some stronger lateral stabilization, as the forces will tend to push the piston opposite the direction of the ramp.

    Robert, I would love to see the Dyson motor linked in a pair, or multiples, and have them laid out on a track. This could possibly produce linear motion for transportation, launch assist for rockets, or even a gun.
    I know you have discussed linear motion with motors before. If this experiment works like you want, I’d love to see you set a model train on a track, using a solenoid type of propulsion system.

    Another Good one!...I looked into pinball machines and how the solenoids were wound. Using the ideas it helped me understand the sizing of wire and turns so that when energizing with electric the solenoid it wouldn't get red hot with running to much current and running at a high speed duty cycle.

    Probably the simplest solenoid engine is one driven by AC mains, it goes at 50 Hz. No switches are needed at all, the AC does the switching. I found one within an air pump ( with rubber diaphragms attached on the ends to drive the air ). It ran maintenance free for years. Even then only the rubber needed replacing.

      A while ago I wondered about a combination magnetic/compressed air engine. The energy wasted by the solenoid is largely heat, which could be used to reheat air as it expands in the cylinder. Might be fun to revisit that idea.

    And my previous commitment leads me to describe an ICE engined pogo stick that was once marketed in Australia by the businessman/aviator/philanthropist Dick Smith. The spung leg of pogo stick was connected mechanically to say a 50cc piston to ride in combustion chamber at top of the movement..... I'll leave the description here as being sufficient. However i guess it never caught on .

    I know this sounds bat sh.t crazy but I think I’ve just designed a ‘perpetual’ motion machine after watching your video. Only I’m going to need you to try it 🥴 I’ve just got out of bed to sketch it on paper. It’s not a free energy machine. But I think this may work. Let me know your thoughts. It’s a very simple concept using magnets. No electricity needed. And yes I am fully aware that no one thinks this can be done.

    • @georgeblack589
      @georgeblack589 Před 10 měsíci

      Whether or not anyone thinks it can be done is irrelevant. A lot of people, apparently, think it can be done.
      It cannot.

    • @liamtingle2762
      @liamtingle2762 Před 10 měsíci

      It’s not free energy. Of course my design would run out of steam once the energy in the magnets has dissipated. However until then, no electric needed. Maybe perpetual is the wrong phrase?
      Maybe nobody has thought of my design?
      Would you say the Earth rotating around the Sun is perpetual? Can you explain how it came to be by design?
      I don’t care who tries it, I’ll give the design to anyone who has the engineering skills.
      I myself am the wrong type of Engineer. A computer systems and network engineer.
