    Hi Brian. I have a lot of sympathy with your rant on Makita dropping the sub-compact range: I was 'forced' to buy Milwaukee, which are ok, I guess. BTW - the after-market battery companies definitely lie about capacity: Makita use Samsung batteries, which are some of the best in the world.

      Thanks for the comment, I agree, the Makita batteries are better but the cost of the copies is difficult to argue with.

    Did you find it gave the tool more power? I find the impact gun to be a bit weak. Instead of buying another (milwaukee) i thought id try upgrading the battery first

      The small 10.8v drivers are ok for small jobs and they are lightweight. Typically we have been using them for plaster board screws. The off market replacements are not t better than the originals, they are just cheaper. The 18v LXT Makita impacts are good value but it f you are switching battery platforms there are lots to choose from. I guess what helps decide is what other tools do you want?

      To some extent I have moved on the the CXT range so although I had some good every day use out of these batteries I have not used this battery type for quite some time. The main reason is Makita moved on and the impact drivers I was using wore out. The CXT platform is were I would invest, not this old style, hope this helps

      @@bodgeitwithbrian good to hear, thank you for the quick response. Those Makita drills were so good, I wish would have keep on with that platform like Milwaukee and DeWalt moved to 12v. Again thank you and God bless!

    I love my old 10.8 Makita tools. I was wondering about the after market batteries. Do you use your original charger?

    • @bodgeitwithbrian

      Sure do, works well. The batteries very often are not the Ah they are labelled as so I just buy the cheaper ones, but check out the link in the video, they have been ok for me

    You are right to have mentioned this scam from leading manufacturing companies regarding changing the battery design , wouldn't it be better if we can insert batteries ourselves without having them sealed , they would argue it's a safety issue but we know better .

    Bust a creabest battery case in the 10.8v so took apart to get the 18650 cells out.
    Battery was 3 years old but all 3 cells where 1415mAh each give or take a little which I thought was good for age in my battery tester drain test. No brand on them. Was thinking of swapping them for new Samsung 18650 but it's not practical and would take too long imo. Dangerous to.
    Don't know what they would of been new but found them to be OK for the money and would buy more.
    It's actually better to keep the old makita battery cases and just slide the cell pack in as better quality and lock in tool better than creabest case, so don't throw original cases out. Easy job that.
    Motor and parts are available and easy swap.

      Yeah.
      Re cell replacement
      I've seen it done on youtube and I've tried replacing cells in the past but I right pain. Don't bother. Original battery packs aren't much more than the knockoff packs i
      If you look about. Samsung batteries in original packs so maybe a tad more power. Depending on what you want I guess.
      Just put motor in mikita impact 10.8v (£6 got lucky off ebay) and good to grease the hammer ever few years as works better. I'm coming to you on my spare youtube account but I made a video of the motor swap on other account and put on youtube. I hate throwing stuff out if I can fix.. Also bought spare 10.8v impact off ebay for £25 so bargain tools.

  • @demsweden
    @demsweden Před 6 lety

    That´s the reason I stick with 2 big platforms, 1 for 12V and 1 for 18V. But to be honest, I might sell the 18V platform and start over with Dewalt since their 54/18V Flexvolt system is the future. Why don´t you test the batteries? Charge them and put a 12V lightbulb to them, then you know the actual throughput in mAh.

    • @bodgeitwithbrian
      @bodgeitwithbrian  Před 6 lety

      Yes I like the idea of the flexvolt. I'm too far into Bosch right now. I don't think I have any lamps for the 10.8v gear. In fact I don't think I have any lamps since the nicad days but yes a test will happen

    • @mattiaspersson3928
      @mattiaspersson3928 Před 6 lety

      Bosch is my 12/10,8V system and I'm very pleased with it overall, AEG is my 18V system but I found out that it hasn't got enough power when I bought the circular saw. Maybe I'll go with 3 platforms and only buy the 54/108V machines for the heavy applications. The odd thing is that Milwaukee doesn't answer by sticking to their Fuel 18V even though it doesn't pack the punch of 54V.

    • @bodgeitwithbrian
      @bodgeitwithbrian  Před 6 lety

      Is it only DeWalt who combines batteries together to make more powerful tools? Just had a look at Milwaukee and see they have three battery sizes. Feels better to have one battery

    • @mattiaspersson3928
      @mattiaspersson3928 Před 6 lety

      Different battery sizes is a good thing IMHO. You only have to carry the weight of a 2Ah battery in a low draw application but can get decent runtime in high power applications with a larger, heavier battery.
      No, it's not only Dewalt, but their system is better thought out, because AEG for instance has a twin 18V mitre saw that doesn't benefit from the higher voltage, just the extended runtime, and yes, you get a little better power since you don't draw as many amps per cell, but you lose power compared to a 36/54/108V system. Makita & Metabo use double 18V to generate 36V and better punch, still the 54V is superior power wise and when doubled as in there 12’ mitre saw you both get extreme power & runtime.

    A Prime example of why
    not to buy makita, I heavily invested in the milwaukee m12 range, they're by far the best tools Iv used, they cost considerably more than other brands but are well worth it as the range of m12 tools is leading the market and as far as cordless routers go, I use the ryobi palm router when I need it, does the exact same job as other brands if not better and 1/3 of the price is always a bonus
