flew up to Madison country airport so I could help out a pilot friend fly his Cessna 140. Perfect day to go fly low and slow so why not go champing for a bit. #flying #pilot #aeronca #deweydavenport
My dad was an air traffic controller 1950's-80's, did flight instruction in the 70's with 3 Aeronca Champs. I got to go flying often on the weekends. Miss that. Wish I could track down the plane that I flew in back then... I think it is in southern California now. Your video brings back some wonderful memories. Thank you.
Wow...the memories came flooding back...soloed a 7ac after 7 hrs from a 2200 ft strip back in 1975 at age 16. Thanks for the awesome video w/narration. I could feel the take-off, that seat of the pants feel never left!!
Thx Man! My dad owned one back in the 70’s, it was Red/ White & us kiss painted it Banana Yellow! Whole Fam Loved it & the all of us Soloed in it, Great Memories!!! 😃💪🏼👍
What a Splendid flight, thanks for recording that, it was just like I was with you at the final landing as the wheels brushed the grass. I so can not wait to get our little Champ flying again.
Fond memories of flying on and off the hayfield on the farm in the champ and the bc12d Taylor craft. Only had 450 feet of runway with high lines at one end,,,hahaha
Loved this. I learned to fly a long time ago in (mostly) a Champ 7AC. 85 mph indicated cruising speed (low altitude where we flew) was normal as I recall. Then flying a Cessna 140 was (to me) a big jump, with cruising speed 105 mph indicated.
I am a student pilot and I have been flying Gliders. I am going to fly a Aeronca Champ the end of March. I m really excited about it and your videos have been adding to my anticipation. Thank you for sharing.
Hi Dewey, it good you are feeling better and hopefully a full recovery soon. Just got onto your videos and very impressed with your easy going comprehensive commentary. It really feels like we are in the cabin flying along with you.
My father had a 7ac champ when I was a kid. I loved flying in it with him. He sold it when I was about 12 or 13 years ago. I kinda miss it. Very nice to see ya flying yours
We used to fly over to Madison county airport from Springfield for thier cheap fuel and of course somewhere to go. Love the videos thanks for bringing me along. Happy Birthday Dewey!
Great video!! Like the production and camera angles. I know how much it takes to put a video like this together..... tons of time!!!! Thanks so much for doing it. And really happy to see your doing well. Happy belated Birthday!!!!
Thanks Paul. Yes the video editing takes forever. This one took so long because of the 4 camera's Wish I could figure out how to edit faster. I would like to come see you sometime. It has been so long since we have hung out or even talked. I hope your doing well also.
Great flight! Flying one tomorrow. First flight in it so your video familiarized me with the gauges, primer, carb heat, fuel off and on, mags and trim. controls. Flown and owned a lot of planes but not the champ. Will see if I like it tomorrow. I love the acronym of Cigar for a substitute check list.
Happy birthday! Thought I caught you at the US-35 / I-675 interchange today (5/16). This champ had the original orange belly though... I still need to get with you for a tailwheel endorsement!
I learned to fly in a champ. Paid $11 dual and $9 solo. 35 hours to get a licence. At the time we got a $200 grant from the government so it cost me $150 to get my private licence.
Happy Birthday and glad you are doing better. So which flies better the 140 or champ? Would love to hear your thoughts. Have plenty of time in a 140 but none in a champ.
Dewey, you have not lived around there all your life....yet. :) Great videos keep up the good work, I have a J3 I am afraid of if a leaf wiggles on a tree.
My name is Greg and of all the people that fly and enjoy airplanes, I am hooked on your videos. I am building an Aeronca (1/3) scale RC airplane along with others. Would it be possible for me to visit you and get a close up of the Aeronca? I’m from Marion , Ohio and would love to drive and meet with you.
@@DeweyDavenport I just thought i was just thru there last year, how did I miss the different truck. But then I rememberd you weren't home. I had dinner with Jodie that night and we were texting you. Lol.
I presume you typically hand prop the plane alone? Could you show that in a video, or direct me to one if you've already done that? I've been thinking about a Champ (not a trained pilot yet), but the hand propping while I'm alone (which would be pretty much all the time) worries me some. I know there are a few electric start Champs out there, but the majority seem to be hand prop. Thanks if you can help!
You can hand prop from behind the prop on a champ, one hand to hold on to something on the aircraft and one hand to prop it. Sorry can't exactly remember how we did it that was when I was Sixteen 62 years ago. Cheers

This navigation is too high tech for me 😂. Man, that’s some pure aviation there.
There is nothing better than flying a Champ. Great times in the sky.
Truly enjoyed coming along. Learned to fly in a Champ 7FC. Magical!!!

Just watched this again, what a splendid day Champing. Beautiful !
Wow ‼️ 50lbs.⁉️ Good for you.
I must say I was a bit surprised to see a farmer sporting a set of Bose Headphones⁉️💰😜
What a Splendid flight, thanks for recording that, it was just like I was with you at the final landing as the wheels brushed the grass. I so can not wait to get our little Champ flying again.
Thanks Doc. I have enjoyed flying my Chsmp for over 25 years and I'm glad some of us can really enjoy the joys of flying low and slow.
Love it. Very floaty,,,lol

Happy Birthday Dewey Excellent Video as usual😀
Awesome Champ!
Thanks FlightTest..
@@DeweyDavenport Would consider doing a cost breakdown to own and fly it?
@@gregorybrown4062 I would. That is a good ideal. Once I can find my lost cameras, I'll make something
Love it, great video,
Great video! I am glad you are back healthy! I can't wait for the next video. Safe landings!
Great airplane, great pilot, great weather, great photography! That is all. :-)

Really awesome video Dewey! Hope you're doing great and keep doing your thing! Really cool seeing what its like flying!
Thanks Cole. I'll keep posting some video's over the summer.
That's what it all about!!! I love all of your videos, but bias for the Champ ones!

Great video, Dewey. Your content is excellent.
Thanks so much.
Awesome!!!
Thank Amanda.

17,802 people have flown with you so far in that Champ. Awesome!
Thanks so much for flying along too.

Happy Belated Born Day Dewey...
Best place to watch a sunset is the cockpit of an airplane.
I agree
Happy birthday. To bad I was waiting to see the lesson in the 140
Great video, 85 mph on 65 hp is real good👍
The small things in life are the best America is opening up looking forward to jets flying we have some movement stay safe and healthy

I remember a plane crashed with cross controlled ailerons. I think it was a DHC-2. I’ve been in many types of aircraft flying around Alaska for work.
Oh wow I live in London Ohio. Choctaw lake. Good ol Madison county airport
Happy Birthday
Very nice flight, When all this crazy is over I'm coming over to visit in my KitFox IV, if it's ok? Happy Birthday!!!!
Definitely Edwin.
Nice video. Got soon my difference training on a Swiss Champ. :-)
I like th8s run up check
Happy Birthday and glad you are doing better. So which flies better the 140 or champ? Would love to hear your thoughts. Have plenty of time in a 140 but none in a champ.
Hi from Argentina, actually i'm fly a Champ 7 EC, it's a great plane!!!
I had a 1965 7ECA about 35 years ago. I had it for 8 years. Expensive toy. I’m in Alaska. I even had skis for it and used them.
Great video! Am I missing something...? Where is your fuel gauge? No float wire showing through the fuel cap...😳😁
Dewey, you have not lived around there all your life....yet. :) Great videos keep up the good work, I have a J3 I am afraid of if a leaf wiggles on a tree.
Thanks Max. I fly my planes all the time so I keep really current. Owning a ride hauling business makes you fly pretty much in any weather.
Damn its been so long
Around 5m50s: is the wider strip Aerodrome Les Noyers? I follow Russ' posts on The Aerodrome forum, what a special little place!
I always say " see those chevrons down there?"
11:36 that’s me taxiing past!
Yep. I wanted to shoot more video of you but I didn't have time. Next time I will.
@Dewey Davenport do you know 88d or 5a1?

Thanks Jimmy.
How did you take off the 50?
Great video. Love that champ. Did you get a new truck?
Thanks Dee. I bought that truck a couple years ago.

I fly a rented Champ and have always been real nervous landing on hard surface. Any pointers?
I fly out of 80KY 1700 ft grass in central KY
If you had to choose between a Champ and a C120/140 as your only airplane.... Which would it be?
Whats the layer there
full of fuel how much wt can you have in that plane?
you in Ohio hmm me too. My older brother is a pilot in Ohio, wonder if you might know him?
lmk bro? he is teaching me in his 150
Do you train here in the Dayton area?
Hello Randall. I live in the Dayton area but I don't do any instructing. I just don't have the time.
