The tip about to watch idol's live really help. I watch the Bang Chan's lives (Chan's room) and for me it's better 'cause I'm brazilian and I can learn korean and English. Bang Chan (Stray Kids) is korean but he lived in Australia then he speaks in both languages during lives.
Totally agree with all three, especially using transcripts to take your Korean (or whatever language) to the next level. Do you need to understand every single word to understand content? No, but when you deep dive into content like that and really dig into understanding each word and each sentence structure, especially when you listen to it or read through it several times, it's SO great for reinforcing your learning of both vocab and grammar. I used to go through TTMIK's Iyagi series by breaking down the transcripts of their conversations and listening several times, and to this day, just like your experience with BTS livestreams, I can still remember where I learned different vocab related to different topics, and even certain phrases or sentences people said about certain topics. The focus on understanding each word + repetition just makes it all stick better in the brain!
@@lanihoangg A transcript is basically the written version of what people are saying in spoken form. Many podcasts or videos designed for language learners will include transcripts, which have all the spoken language used in the video written down in one place, which makes studying much easier.
Hi =) I'm feeling a bit stuck right now because I don't know what structured approach to take - I know that I am someone who needs that structure and as an adult learner especially, I like to understand the grammar for my personal confidence. Do you recommend TTMIK? Could that be a good way to really make progress?
I've been studying Korean for about 3 years now and I can definitely say my listening is the hardest part of learning for me. I speak a lot with native speakers (and text haha) and I practice my reading and writing a lot. However, even as an english speaker I struggle to understand audios because I am a very visual learner. However, listening in real life doesn't always allow me to have a visual (someone's facial expressions, a picture, etc) so I've learned that reading transcripts along with listening helps me soo much. Honestly, I feel like a lot of language learners or teachers shade on transcripts but if you're someone like me who struggles with processing audio even in their native language, transcripts are a life saver. I'm so happy you talked about this in your videos because it's truly so important and not enough people emphasize how helpful this can be for people, especially those who are not auditory learners by nature. (Love the bts references too because SAME)
For every 10 times you read a passage, write a paragraph or study a book, you must play the audio 100xs and revisit it after 3 months every 3 months. No matter how advanced you get, revisit every piece of learning material you have.
I'm intermediate and I forgot a lot during a few months of not studying, but I realised that when I see certain words/grammar structures I *know* them and I remember them - I got a bit lazy with my efforts. Being an introvert doesn't help with the speaking, but a big trap of language learning is when you know enough to go through your daily life so you don't have to really focus because you have a general understanding and can express yourself in a basic way and that's enough. Paying attention to how natives reacts and/or rephrase what you say is sooo important and helps so much!
i agree with that last part. it is 100% true you dont need to understand every word. you can maintain conversations without it. but for the sake of your listening ability, its also helpful. even if you KNOW the word cause of context, but you cant hear it... once you get to where you hear it.. its easier in the future ^^ and of course, you can mimick it better and sound more natural ~
This is why I use Korean subtitles when I watch dramas. I 100% agree with paying attention to how people react to what you say. If someone says "heh?" I always think that I didn't say it properly or loud enough. Until my iTalki tutor corrected me, I always used to say ㅎ+ㄱ, ㄱ+ㅎ, and ㄹ+려 (like 흔들리다 → 흔들려요) wrong and that's why people couldn't understand what I was saying.

@@miroya6418 I use Netflix & turn on the CC. That said, I live in Korea & am from the US. Subtitle availability is region/license based. For example, I can watch anime & Jdramas w/o the CC 90% of the time, but when I need or want Japanese CC, Korean Netflix only has Korean subtitles (which makes sense due to licensing agreements). Occasionally they have the Japanese CC. In the US, some stuff had Korean CC, some didn’t.
Thank you for the tips!! Something else I've been doing lately is making sure to study at least an hour everyday. I've found it's much easier to recall what I've learned this way. And you're definitely right, I tend to spend most of my time focused on reading rather than listening. actually both perspectives are correct in a way. When you "actively" learn, you should strive to understand each word, really dig into it on a deeper level, but when you are learning ''passively' it is okay to learn it in a more superficial way, just covering the tip of the iceberg, or have about 50-70 percent comprehension.

i'm not very advanced but kor cc and transcripts are so helpful for me! i also like to turn on cc for the korean vloggers and content creators i watch :)) unfortunately the cc aren't always provided but that where transcripts and subtitles for tv shows and movies come in! my listening is very weak so i use this method a lot. it's not too new for me since i use cc for the english content (english is my native language) i consume anyway. happy to see that i'm already on the right track! i will definitely try your other two tips as they're also helpful! i need to find native speakers to talk to though heh ^^;
For me the last tip works the best, I always notice a big difference when I watch a content while reading transcript my listening and reading improved a lot 💪🏽 No we need a video about Korean resources with transcripts 😂 And Thank you so much for being an inspiration for all of us Natalia❤
Hopefully when I’m able to get story learning I’ll find someone I can speak the language with. I’ve been learning off and on for 6 yrs and no where near where I feel like I should be hopefully I can get to intermediate soon

When I was in Japan learning Japanese I could study a word to death, I could even use it in conversation, but it wasn’t until someone else used it in conversation and I failed to understand it at least once did I add it to my vocabulary that I could hear and comprehend. It was a painfully slow process. I don’t expect Korean to be any easier.

An instant 10000+ points for you! 😂 I hope my Korean is functional enough when he's done with his military service and doing lives again. 🙏 However, I can't make out a single word he says. He speaks too fast and doesn't use the structures I'm familiar with. 😅
PS I just see that you showed as an example a clip from 'A Love So Beautiful' I was SO sad to finish that series! I loved this show so much. Let's say I only have 1 hour to study, how could I make the most of that hour because there is just so much to choose from when studying and learning a new language. It can be so overwhelming >.
Alright, so I wanted to ask this for quite a long time, but you know in my country there's a site where you can find free online versions of the books that are used in classes and interact with them like listen to the texts while studying it in order to improve your pronunciation and such things (that's mostly for when we are studying languages that aren't our first one). Is there any type of a site that would do a thing that's pretty close to what I described, but for korean books??
I have tried Duolingo but got bored because I was only learning vowels and consonants and but now I’m learning more stuff and it’s fun. I’ve also tried Busuu and it’s pretty great, other people who are fluent in the language you are learning can correct your spelling or the way you said it either typing or recording it. Busuu shows more formal ways but I feel as if it teaches things to fast where Duolingo just keeps repeating things a little bit sometimes rewording it, I feel like.
I started learning Korean in April just before my trip to Korea in May of this year. I'm struggling😅. I speak English and Japanese and my brain 🧠 feels like it's full lool. Nothing is sticking but I'm hoping that that will change with time.🤞🏽🤞🏽 Japanese felt the same in the beginning.
What books/ course did you use to learn the language, Natalia? I ask for I am isolated. I'm a house bound disabled person. But I am fighting back because I want to follow the coastline of Korea - and I will need to be fluent due to the rural locations I want to visit. Hi Natalia, love your videos! I'd like your advice, when trying to speak more fluently but you don't have the words or the grammar. Korean seems especially difficult because its spoken quite fast and I could be wrong on this - but IS the grammar very difficult? I had no problem with Chinese and Vietnamese because despite tones, the grammar is quite easy for sure, in comparison. I feel sad because I try and study, but I feel I get nowhere. Could I be over-complicating it?

I have a more I guess advanced problem. After learning for 5 to almost 6 years i have a difficult time talking and finding natives that are willing to speak. I try my best with apps but too often do I only get greetings and some knowledge about how old and how tall etc some basic questions and although those are great I don't see myself really thinking too far beyond basic simple 1 sentence responses and not giving my full advice or description about what I want to say. I tell people oh I can speak confidently but when I want to describe my thoughts I often come up short and I think I mean more description and longer topics but I don't think I see any practice for that I'm using chat gtp to give me paragraphs and 5 questions to answer so I can think about the question more in depth but I feel like a great way is to get a natives perspective on it because they can answer the way they were taught (in korean) that's my biggest problem right now

I've been studying Korean since January. I enrolled in Korean course. Not a long time after learning hangul I started learning lyrics of Korean songs. First phrase I learned was "꽃향기만 남기고 갔단다" You know the title of the song, don't you? 😂 If she can learn English, then I can learn Korean😂

My biggest problems are speaking and consistency haha. Ive been learning for 2 years already, im sure in a few more years ill be able to understand alot of what i hear but i just cant form sentences properly. The things i can say, i say with a good accent. Ive been told by many koreans my accent sounds fluent, its the actual speaking im not good at lol. I could learn 500 new words and remember and understand them but i just couldnt use them myself

16 years in Seoul and I still can barely order a sandwich. I've done apps, books, classes (my last teacher fired me as a student), and I've just given up. There are other things I can learn quickly, so I focus on those. Korean just doesn't stick. I get these big lists of words and after the 3rd one my eyes just slide off the page. Don't even get me started on grammar.

i'm not very advanced but kor cc and transcripts are so helpful for me! i also like to turn on cc for the korean vloggers and content creators i watch :)) unfortunately the cc aren't always provided but that where transcripts and subtitles for tv shows and movies come in! my listening is very weak so i use this method a lot. it's not too new for me since i use cc for the english content (english is my native language) i consume anyway. happy to see that i'm already on the right track! i will definitely try your other two tips as they're also helpful! i need to find native speakers to talk to though heh ^^;
For me the last tip works the best, I always notice a big difference when I watch a content while reading transcript my listening and reading improved a lot 💪🏽

When I was in Japan learning Japanese I could study a word to death, I could even use it in conversation, but it wasn’t until someone else used it in conversation and I failed to understand it at least once did I add it to my vocabulary that I could hear and comprehend. It was a painfully slow process. I don’t expect Korean to be any easier.

Alright, so I wanted to ask this for quite a long time, but you know in my country there's a site where you can find free online versions of the books that are used in classes and interact with them like listen to the texts while studying it in order to improve your pronunciation and such things (that's mostly for when we are studying languages that aren't our first one). Is there any type of a site that would do a thing that's pretty close to what I described, but for korean books??
I have tried Duolingo but got bored because I was only learning vowels and consonants and but now I’m learning more stuff and it’s fun.
I’ve also tried Busuu and it’s pretty great, other people who are fluent in the language you are learning can correct your spelling or the way you said it either typing or recording it. Busuu shows more formal ways but I feel as if it teaches things to fast where Duolingo just keeps repeating things a little bit sometimes rewording it, I feel like.

I started learning Korean in April just before my trip to Korea in May of this year. I'm struggling😅. I speak English and Japanese and my brain 🧠 feels like it's full lool. Nothing is sticking but I'm hoping that that will change with time.🤞🏽🤞🏽 Japanese felt the same in the beginning.

What books/ course did you use to learn the language, Natalia? I ask for I am isolated. I'm a house bound disabled person. But I am fighting back because I want to follow the coastline of Korea - and I will need to be fluent due to the rural locations I want to visit. Hi Natalia, love your videos! I'd like your advice, when trying to speak more fluently but you don't have the words or the grammar. Korean seems especially difficult because its spoken quite fast and I could be wrong on this - but IS the grammar very difficult? I had no problem with Chinese and Vietnamese because despite tones, the grammar is quite easy for sure, in comparison. I feel sad because I try and study, but I feel I get nowhere. Could I be over-complicating it?

Swedish 🇸🇪. I wish to learn languages separately because so I don’t get them all mixed up together. I took Mandarin Chinese back in high school, that was a lovely time! The very first language I ever learnt was Russian when I was either 6, 7, or 8 years old around 10 years ago. Now I’m 18.
I have a more I guess advanced problem. After learning for 5 to almost 6 years i have a difficult time talking and finding natives that are willing to speak. I try my best with apps but too often do I only get greetings and some knowledge about how old and how tall etc some basic questions and although those are great I don't see myself really thinking too far beyond basic simple 1 sentence responses and not giving my full advice or description about what I want to say. I tell people oh I can speak confidently but when I want to describe my thoughts I often come up short and I think I mean more description and longer topics but I don't think I see any practice for that I'm using chat gtp to give me paragraphs and 5 questions to answer so I can think about the question more in depth but I feel like a great way is to get a natives perspective on it because they can answer the way they were taught (in korean) that's my biggest problem right now

My biggest problems are speaking and consistency haha. Ive been learning for 2 years already, im sure in a few more years ill be able to understand alot of what i hear but i just cant form sentences properly. The things i can say, i say with a good accent. Ive been told by many koreans my accent sounds fluent, its the actual speaking im not good at lol. I could learn 500 new words and remember and understand them but i just couldnt use them myself

BTS fans have it so easy when it comes to learning Korean.
16 years in Seoul and I still can barely order a sandwich. I've done apps, books, classes (my last teacher fired me as a student), and I've just given up.
There are other things I can learn quickly, so I focus on those. Korean just doesn't stick. I get these big lists of words and after the 3rd one my eyes just slide off the page. Don't even get me started on grammar.
