I don't think the problem is that it's just cheap, 1) he didn't pick something in person to make sure it's the right size, it feels good and looks just right. He just got it from a website with cheap and bad quality goods. 2) he didn't get something of nice quality that could last till the wedding. In my country (in Latinamerica) you can get a nice silver ring for 20 dollars, more if you want a thicker ring. He could have gone to a shop and pick a nice silver ring for 20 dollars or less.
Fake rings can decolorate and turn orange in a week or two, that can stain your finger green and cause an allergic reaction or rashes (I had many fake rings before starting to use silver). So it's very likely that it won't even last till the wedding, because shopee rings are fake even if it says it's silver, it turns orange.
And the fact that he ends an 8 years long relationship without talking or hearing why she felt bad about the ring, means he cares more about his pride than his love, it's not about the money.

thats not even 1$ per year. I dont think engagement rings should be crazy expensive but at least get her something that's high quality and will last a long time. Not a piece of crap shein ring. She should run far away from him if he's not even willing to spend 10 measly dollars on his supposed love of his life.
