    Lyrics:
You still got that light in your eye
And our day is coming by and by
I'm travelling this long road here with you
We still got a long way, we still got a long way to go
The first time I set eyes on you, I listened to you sing, yeah, yeah
We didn't have to speak 'cause the words said everything
Yes, you walked right into my life and we were on our way, yeah
So long ago, but it feels like yesterday
And I just want to tell you
You still got that light in your eye, yes you do
And our day is coming by and by
I'm travelling this long road here with you
We still got a long way, we still got a long way to go
Now some of my best memories are days I spent with you, yeah
Each time we hit the road it was always something new
Spaced out rather drunk or singing in the sun, yeah, yeah
One more bottle dead and a new day just begun
I just want to tell you
You still got that light in your eye
And our day is coming by and by
I'm travelling this long road here with you
We still got a long way, we still got a long way to go
Shining light, shining bright on the days gone down
Shining light, shining bright on the days gone down
Shining light, shining bright on the days gone down
We won't forget the days gone down, they're written in our hearts, yeah, yeah
And we're as much in tune as we were right at the start
It all seems so much harder now, it seemed so easy then, yeah, yeah
Well, someday, just for fun, we might do it all again
I just want to tell you
You still got that light in your eye, yes you do
And our day is coming by and by
I'm travelling this long road here with you
We still got a long way, we still got a long way to go
    (Yeah, yeah ...)
You still got that light in your eye
And our day is coming by and by
I'm travelling, travelling this road with you
We still got a long way, we still got a long way to go

His disdain of the music industry was apparent even in the days of Stealer's Wheel, when Gerry penned the lyrics to Stuck In The Middle With You - "clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right".........although part of those lyrics were directed at Billy Connolly, at the time when ( in Gerry's words) "the songs were getting shorter and the jokes were getting longer"......

The word genius is used a lot these days but this man truly was a musical genius in every sense of the word. Never wanted the limelight. His songs seem to carry so much of his own life experiences and some of us can relate to what his songs are saying. Musical Hall of Fame is all the poorer for Gerry Rafferty not being in it. Warm summer day on a lake in Minnesota. Cabin nestled on a hill and a thick tree canopy down the hill and revealing a blue lake. A dock, the sound of lapping water against the boat affixed to it, the sound of boat motors off in the distance, the smell of fresh air mixed with coppertone sun tan lotion, the warm feeling of the sun and a heart full of love for a new girlfriend, a glass with ice tinkling as I swirl my favorite drink and the melodic sound of Gerry Rafferty oozing down from the cabin stereo sytstem and onto the lake. Yes, a great day in the summer of 1979 and a memory forever etched into my mind. If there is a heaven, maybe I'll once again be back there.

Underrated to newer generations, maybe. But thats not their fault. I was only one of millions of american kids who were pleasantly stunned when gerry hit rock radio in 1978. The forever impression was made early in our lives. Weve been listening ever since....
Gerry was the reason many of us began playing guitar & writing music. And for those who came from no musical tradition from their parents, folks like Gerry Rafferty, Rita Coolidge, Gordon Lightfoot, Bill Withers, James Taylor & others became our musical roots. Personally, by choice these are my very roots because, son of a classical pianist, I took the direction of contemporary music....
Generation X _IS_ the 70's. We _ARE_ the 70's, & Gerry's music is forever part of us. So remember: Its not just a decade. Not just time & place. It's an open-minded, unprejudiced attitude that seeks to learn to understand. May warmer souls & kinder hearts prevail, always. But that's not limited to a decade or a single generation 🎼💜

Kids today are so lucky. An amazing song like this is just sitting there, waiting to be discovered by anyone in the world with access to Spotify or CZcams. I discovered this song five years ago and I keep coming back to it. If there is a heaven, I hope Gerry gets a chuckle every time someone here on Earth discovers his music.

It's a beautiful thing to think of how much painstaking trouble he went through in his life, yet he persisted through it all with the love for his people, most especially his daughter, who was there with him throughout his life. Awe-inspiring, even to me, being a Gen-Z kid. He's one of my favorite artists ever.

I can not agree more. Gerry was a class act. Superb. His voice can't be copied by anyone. I was 14 when I encountered this musician at Steelers Wheel, Stuck in the middle with you. His haunting voice stayed in my mind so when City to City was released, I knew it was the same most beautiful voice

Born in '46, I grew up through the genesis of "Pop Music" Naturally I didn't hear it all, didn't like all that I heard, but this man had a voice and a talent for song writing which set him apart. I bought(and still have)his "City to City" album, and I can honestly say that it's the best album I ever bought, simply because there's not a bad track on it, it's an absolute gem of a record. Technology now gives all of us the option to just skip a track or two, or jump to some other artist on a whim. "City to City" is captivating from beginning to end, and because vinyl was where I started, it's still my favourite source. That album is still the only one which I will play from side to side without thinking that any track can be skipped. That's all...

One of my favorites songs in the whole wide world. I loved it the first time I heard it in 78. Around 10 years ago, my husband, kids and I were riding on a beautiful West Virginia backroad and this came on the radio. My kids were around 9 and 10, a little chatty from seeing new sights, and they both fell silent for the entire song. Great song.
