Every one I've seen is hauling more ass than a donkey when I see them in Louisiana I've never seen one strike and the Everywhere done here even in the city limits
Being from the southern part of Georgia, and being a towtruck operator, I've got plenty of crazy stories with snakes and alligators...had plenty of snakes try and slither into the boat when I float up against a brush pile to fish for flathead catfish. One time we floated up against a big fallen tree only to realize it was a gator...talk about scary... so many of us are blessed to be alive from simple encounters that could easily have went the opposite way...
Snakes are aggressive when it comes to food. I live in Houston, and I used to hunt in rice fields and canals. I encounter snakes all the time. I don't like gators.
@dalev100 Def my initial thought too, but upon closer inspection, at 0.43 sec, magnify 10x & you'll see a small black marking on its underbelly. I gave it a quick Google and... plot twist, its a bar code tracing back to Petco. (fyi snake was on clearance for 7.99)
I've got some water moccasin stories I grew up in Louisiana fishing and hunting in the bayous and even in a residential area me and a water moccasin getting into it, so yeah I've had my share, once I was fishing at the spillway and had to pee so I'm squatting and about a 6-foot water moccasin decides a sliver right in between my legs while I'm peeing so I peed all over it ex yelling at me don't move, like I can't move I'm peeing..lol second one going to get the flat boat by the bike shed, during a flood, flipped the boat over and a water moccasin went right up my arm and we all jumped out of the water into the boat..lol In about 5 ft of water where I lived by the canal.. Then one time fishing at same place I seen a pillowcase tied up looked like something in it so I touched it And it moved..OMG.. So I ripped it open, the pillowcase was like dry rotted so it ripped op-ed very easily..and this Huge Water Moccasin like 8 ft long Jumped out that bag like I was it's worst anime like I tied him up in the bag there here I am saving his ass jumped and jumped and I'm jumping backwards and trying to run backwards in this thing is after me fast and people out fishing with we're picking up rocks and anything you can find and throw at this thing it finally went in the water left me alone but yeah my water moccasin stories, wait till I see a alligator video.LOL I got more stories.
To all the ones that commented and said this was a water moccasin you were incorrect. That was a diamondback watersnake. Cottonmouths/Water Moccasins which are the same thing swim on top of the water. Now sometimes they will go under for a fish but will not stay under very long. They hate for there heads to be under water. Have to add that cottonmouths and water snakes are not the same thing. Cottonmouth/Water Moccasin is venomous and diamondback watersnakes are non venomous.
@@realkarma1254 I was talking about cottonmouths and watersnakes. I been doing this for 30 years my man. Trust me I know what I'm talking about. I handle cottonmouths and watersnakes all day everyday. I know the diffrence. But thanks for the correction.
Actually down here in South Carolina I was down in a creek literally poking at a Cotton mouth with a stick pissing it off it charged from the other side of Creek on the bank down under water directly at me while under water it made hissing noise plus this snake has short fat body which is stature of Cotton mouth. Plus before it charged at me it had it's mouth open and pointing up at me
I stepped on one of the biggest and fattest cottonmouths I've seen about 3 weeks ago and felt it squirm out from under my foot. I still get shivers down my spine when I think of it.
Knowledge is power brother. No doubt and many things in your life you do that are greater risk to your life than that snake. Does no good the cloud your vision with fear, that ol snake clearly had no interest in the man. He was hungry for the fish. Snakes don't want to bite you and don't want to be around you but if you get up in there shit what else can they do? It's not like they got arms and legs they can crap all over you or they can bite you. I I challenge you to take a closer look the next snake you see without being a terrified panicky just watching look at him and ask yourself if he is really here on this Earth just to chase you around. Or keep living in fear and ignorance and shooting everything that gives you the shakes. it'sa free world
Mild to say the least for such a large moccasin, I live in Florida they seem to be somewhat aggressive especially when they climb in the boat with you note they are territorial basically you're fishing in his stream
I know that 12 gauge is right. My dad & an uncle went fishing many years ago. They took my brother who was maybe 6 or 7 at the time. We'd never have heard the story if it wasn't for my brother! They were in a little rickety ass boat w/ some equally rickety ass motor gliding along the edge of the river. They went under some very low hanging branches & that's when the moccasin fell into the boat with them. My mom asked my brother what did he do? He stood up on the seat while my dad & uncle tried to get the snake out of the boat. Evidently there was lots of yelling, cursing & boat dancing as they tried. They did manage to get it out of the boat but they were done fishing for the day. LOL Cottonmouths are aggressive af. It's why among churches that handle snakes you won't find moccasins among the group they handle. Rattlers & copperheads they'll handle but not moccasins.
If that was my video it would have ended by me dropping the phone and listening to me scream like a girl as I'm doing 120 km an hour threw the woods lol
I was nearly bitten by one as a kid. I jumped across a tiny creek and heard a splash. When I turned around to see what it was, I saw it sitting in the water with the mouth wide open at the spot where I jumped over. I realised it took a strike at my foot and missed. Heard about them and was able to recognize what it was when I saw the inside of its mouth.
Chris Leslie snakes usually don’t go in water like that and in most places besides like florida tennessee and louisiana that’s all i know but there are more, there is a diff snake callled the eastern water snake and it looks just like them in eveyway besides not having a white mouth that’s the only way to tell, snakes can swim but most don’t and barely any hunt prey in water
In northern arkansas we call these highly aggressive snakes "black water snakes" they will scare the bejesus out of you. Water moccasin usually hang and drop from above the water, the strike and retreat, strike and retreat. Only time I ran into mocassins there was a group of them.
Thats a watersnake. moccasins bodies will be above the surface of the water not below like this video. Water moccasin = body above water ..... water snakes = bodies beneath the surface
Not to mention how they got the moniker cotton mouth. I've been in a canoe as one rushed at me with white mouth wide open. Smacked it twice in the head with a paddle before it finally decided I wasn't worth it.
I’m assuming by water snake you mean any species of the Genus Nerodia. The idea that Nerodia and Agkistrodon either “float” or submerge their bodies is a common misconception. This is not a reliable indicator as all snakes are capable of doing both.
Had one following me in a lake when I was 4. My grandmother was screaming at me to come out of the water and I ignored her until she said theres a snake behind you. I looked behind me he was maybe a foot away I still remember his eyes. Lol. I high tailed it outta there at that point.
I remember one time I was fishing upstream of my fav spot cus everyone was swimming, and someone caught a banded water snake and everyone thought it was a copperhead and left. Literally everyone. I got the whole spot to myself.
Yup! Same thing up here in Ohio, except it's the relative of that snake, the common water snake. We don't even have water moccasins and people still claim they see them!

As a boy in the sixties I used to swim in waters holes like this deep in the forest, actually my cousin drowned on one of our swimming expedition. I remember running all the way back home for miles to tell his mother he did not come up.
Heading for a camp site in Old Dismal Swamp, a moccasin dropped onto the floor of our canoe from a tree. Quick as a flash, Kenny whipped out the .44 magnum he had brought in case of bear and blew that thing right in half. Then he looked at me sheepishly as we sank to the bottom...
This has happened to me before but by an eastern diamondback. However, one night I had my mess of bream in the lake, on the line soaking while I made a fire. And I pulled em out and there was about a 6/12 foot moccasin attached to my mess of bream. Pulled out my snub nose .45 I carry for over night trips along w my rifle of choice and I blew his head clean off his body. Didn't know how many fish he had bitten or tried to eat. I had a cavity in a molar. Didn't take my chances. Tossed the whole mess in the damned fire. Caught me another in about an hour's time. Thankfully this lake was fed by the nearby swamp from the Escambia river. And was naturally well stocked with large mouth bass, bream, and good ole pan size catfish. Bluegill, goggle eyes, etc.
They’re territorial, unlike most other snakes. Meaning they are not afraid of you. At least, they’re brave enough to attack a person if they’re in its territory.
Hell, at my last "Blast and Cast" I shot a huge Sturgeon, and hooked me a nice sized 8 pointer...Boy was that buck pissed when I finally got him in the boat.
Cheater. We were fishing on my dads boat once, my mom actually came that time. She throws her line out and it got caught in a bush so my dads telling her to pull it out and she gives it q big snatch and out comes a snake with it, she screamed and threw the whole rod in the water 😂😂 my dad was not pleased. Another time I was out with him and he was fishing with a rattle trap lure, he makes his cast a high cast and it hits something and next thing I know a bird lands between my feet in the boat 😂😂😂 He says "Awww shit!"
I took my late Gpas Pat right off his head withy cast....Then had to not laugh the entire time reeling it in and hopped up on my dew and candy at 10 years old... without laughing...I think I deserved a 🏅 lol but when he left the dock.....I was laughing😆😂
I lived in Florida in 1987 and it was on the news that a boy had swung out on a tree swing into a creek. Landed in a nest full of water moccasins! He was dead before the ambulance got there. The Doctors said he didn't stand a chance and that he was bitten well over a hundred times.
This happened to my 10 year old grandson and my 19 year old grandson had to dispatch it. The snake tangled in his fishing line and was fighting with it on the bank with his rod .. after learning about what happened I told him “Son don’t reel the snake in!” He was very fortunate that it was tangled up in the line.
I hooked a water moccasin one time. I remember thinking this is the weirdest feeling fish I ever caught. I got it to my feet and it scared the shit out of me. It was at least as big as this one.
Awhile back I was taking a walk through town. Near a Mexican restaurant there is a little bridge I cross. 2 kids who parent worked at the restaurant were there fishing. As I come up the little girl is yelling at the boy to let the snake go. I walk up, look over the side and see his lure has run into the side of a roughly 2.5 foot copperhead. He wants to pull it up and get his lure. I tell the kid cut the line. He doesn't want to get bit over his lure and the snake looked mad
@Harry Longfellow look buddy it’s not a water moccasin they float on the surface of the water and are short and fat. Secondly I catch them and sell them I caught over 200 this year alive and sold them to make anti-venom
In NC, woke up to one of these about 2ft from my face. I was sleeping on the ground in my mummy bag, face down, arms inside. I lifted my head and saw it there, tongue flicking all over. I kept blowing my morning breath at it and it finally decided I wasn't worth kissing. Damn thing was nearly 6ft long, thick and dark gray, almost black.
Why the hell does everybody get on these videos and say that it's not a water moccasin? I've seen so many videos of people that are claiming the snake in the video is not a water moccasin. First of all, you cannot claim that you know that the water moccasin or not. The reason I would say that it is a water moccasin is because of how fast it is. There's not a water snake anywhere that's as fast as a water moccasin. Not in America anyway.
@@bigcountrymountainman9740 first of all, there are a lot of species of water snakes, just ONE of which is a water moccasin. Second, their range is from Florida to Eastern Texas, north to southern Virginia, with a pretty big dip on the northern edge. A lot of these videos aren't even close to that range. Third, the vast majority of the videos don't show enough to positively identify the snake. Fourth, a lot of posters use misleading titles on their videos to get more views. It is commonly called "clickbait". For example, this title uses the word "attack". That snake was just trying to catch some food. It was definitely NOT attacking anyone. CLICKBAIT. I have no idea where this video was taken. Maybe it is one, but there are absolutely NO identifier in that video. My comment was directed at videos in general.
@@bigcountrymountainman9740 Water Moccasins typically float mostly on top of the water whereas Water snakes are mostly in the water, mostly submerged. Water snakes have always gone after lures or fishing bait, Moccasins tend to shy away from people. This is a water snake. Seen too many of both types.
I've encountered countless water moccasins and not one time did they ever attack me, they seemed more shy than anything, maybe even a little curious but they've never attacked
I took my family to go swimming in a creek at a park near my house one time; we go there a lot in the summer. One time I was sitting on a rock at the edge of the creek, cooling off my bare feet, when I felt something ticking one of my feet. I look down and a water moccasin was checking me out. I reactivity jerked my foot away and the snake took off across the creek. I’ve had the heebie jeebies whenever we go back there ever since!
Lol venomous snakes (cottonmouths) float on water when they are crossing by increasing their buoyancy. Regardless. Water moccasins spend time most of their water time submerged. So yes, they float on top of water but mostly hunt underwater. Not to mention you could see its white cotton colored mouth when it bit the bait.
@@dickfitswell3437 cotton mouths dont move like that and although that was a thick snake, it wasnt quite the distinctive body type of a moccasin. Although a moccasin is at home in the water, the water snake is much more effective in swimming fast. I've seen a hand full of moccasins in nearly every state from South Carolina to texas. I have them on my property, have a video of one on my channel that I caught and caged and released. On my property they are heavily black pigmented but have the chocolate stripe visible above the mouth. I think the white was the fish on the pole. Anyway. I study hepatology as an ameture hobby, I have a zoology b.s. and I've paid attention. None of that matters but I'll bet a million that is not akisterdon piscivorous. Though I cannot tell you what species it is. Moccasins just arent that quick and agile. And they are fat and stumpy.
That has to be the biggest moccasin I've ever seen. I used to fish in the Everglades National Park and I've never seen a bigger one than that. By nature, they are one of the meanest snakes I've ever come across. And one this size, I wouldn't be walking away from it, I'd be running!
When I was a kid, my dad stopped the car along a rode somewhere. When we got out I spied a snake, a rattler, and stepped toward the grass to get a closer look. My dad hollered real loud , get back here, it'll bite you! Another time we were fishing and I took a break to chase rodents on a hill. Rodents=most likely disease causing mice. My gramma had a mason jar full of rattles from snakes they'd killed over the years-fascinating! Now it's time to google cottonmouths and water moccasins to find out for myself about them. I enjoyed reading the comments- thanks all for the input!! For anyone who likes folk music, I recommend Wovenhand, specifically the song Sparrow Falls. In it he sings about a cottonmouth. I love randomness- I learn a lot watching CZcams- one thing leads to another! God bless-be safe.. ..

@@Speeglelookingglass if it was a real water moccasin you would see it the whole time. WMs float on top of the water, this was a non-venomous water snake.
This has happened to me before! Me and some other kids were illegally fishing in someone’s little homemade fishing pond (as kids do), when we all saw a tricolored snake swimming towards my line under the water at the same time as I was reeling in a fish. The water was cloudy to the point where we couldn’t see anything below a few inches in the water. A couple seconds later, my line jerked unnaturally like no other fish I’d caught before, and the fish stopped fighting... so I figured I’d lost it. To my surprise, I pulled up a bloody and very dead fish on the end of my line! Shortly after that, we were all run off the property by whoever owned the pond haha Edit: I googled it, and the only snake colored like that that I can find evidence of being able to swim and eat fish that also could live in South Carolina is the milk snake or maybe a very specific species of coral snake.
I have no idea what was going on. I'd never had it happen before or since. But I was about thirty feet off shore fishing out of a canoe and I had become surrounded by a half dozen water moccasins trying to get in the canoe. They were having a hard time getting up the side but I didn't take any chances and started flipping them back towards the shore with my paddle. Weird. It got even more weird when I had multiple sightings of Northern Pike gliding by. It was a regular freak fest.
Its really frustrating to see how many people think you should just kill the snake. Snakes want NOTHING to do with you leave them alone and they will leave you alone.
It’s a natural instinct to be afraid of/ want to kill every snake they see. Most animals are the same with regards to snakes. That instinct helped keep our species alive long enough to create people who have no instincts.
My co worker was telling me a story about some old black man that was fishing by the river one time and he found a pile of worms and he was catching a lot of fish and someone asked him what he was using and he held up the worms and said “these but everytime I pick them up they bite me” and turns out he found a nest of baby water moccasins and he was fishing with them

Moccasins are the most aggressive snake I've come across. Rattlers usually try to get away while moccasins come right at you.

I doubt the snakes would have mauled you gator on the other hand different story
Snakes are aggressive when it comes to food. I live in Houston, and I used to hunt in rice fields and canals. I encounter snakes all the time. I don't like gators.
Listen people, its CZcams snake rules: water+snake= whatever the eff kinda snake you want it to be.

In about 5 ft of water where I lived by the canal..
Then one time fishing at same place I seen a pillowcase tied up looked like something in it so I touched it And it moved..OMG..
So I ripped it open, the pillowcase was like dry rotted so it ripped op-ed very easily..and this Huge Water Moccasin like 8 ft long Jumped out that bag like I was it's worst anime like I tied him up in the bag there here I am saving his ass jumped and jumped and I'm jumping backwards and trying to run backwards in this thing is after me fast and people out fishing with we're picking up rocks and anything you can find and throw at this thing it finally went in the water left me alone but yeah my water moccasin stories, wait till I see a alligator video.LOL

Mild to say the least for such a large moccasin, I live in Florida they seem to be somewhat aggressive especially when they climb in the boat with you note they are territorial basically you're fishing in his stream
Reacting to a bait being dangled in front of him doesn't constitute an attack, unless you're the bait.
And that's why when you're down south... go fishing with a EF'ING 12 gauge lol
In Texas, a .410 does the job just right
Good idea!
That's why when you're down south....Go north!!!
That's true of almost any activity anywhere. Always bring a 12 gauge.

In northern arkansas we call these highly aggressive snakes "black water snakes" they will scare the bejesus out of you. Water moccasin usually hang and drop from above the water, the strike and retreat, strike and retreat. Only time I ran into mocassins there was a group of them.
I had a Water Moccasin chase me up in a shore once. I ran like hell, it was on my heels.
🤣
I was like waiting for someone to sneak up on you with waterproof moccasins on. Oh my gosh I've been in the house too long!!
Ya we went to a spring fed river for vacation and I had one rush me from across the river and they stand straight up on the water
I’m assuming by water snake you mean any species of the Genus Nerodia. The idea that Nerodia and Agkistrodon either “float” or submerge their bodies is a common misconception. This is not a reliable indicator as all snakes are capable of doing both.
So many biologists here. Hhahaha.

Its really frustrating to see how many people think you should just kill the snake. Snakes want NOTHING to do with you leave them alone and they will leave you alone.
